A good episode of season 9. I joined the Americans for their opinion about this episode. I'm really not bothered by looking at it and it made me laugh several times. Start with Lisa who can not find the code so everyone laugh at her and even Nelson find it. I guess it is a great way to start the episode and to start the main subject of this episode: The intelligence of the Simpsons. This is an episode about Lisa Simpson doing depresion is not the first and the last time we have an episode about this, but it is still interesting and much better than Moaning Lisa of the first season in my opinion. I also enjoyed appearances in this episode of Ralph: Ralph opens his locker on the first try unlike Lisa who can not do his science project or when it is happy or sad while playing with the box letters. Secondary to the story of Apu, it's really a good idea even if it has no connection with the story of Lisa so much that sometimes I don't remember that these two stories are in the same episode. In any case, it is good and funny and deserves its place in the episode. In short, I even decided to increase my rating to 3,5/5 instead of 3,25.
For the episode I choose Maximum Homerdrive!

Well, it could be interesting.
Not exactly an episode that I remember or think about much. Makes it different!
I reviewed it on here not even a year ago so the 2/5 is still fresh in my memory. Feel free to look it up for a sneak preview of my review. But who knows, maybe I'll like it better on this re-watch?
I hope because it's my second favourite episode!
it's a great episode. better than Lisa The Simpson.

When I first watched it I thought it was horrible but on second viewing several years ago it was alright. So I guess this will be only the third time I've watched it since its original airing, another interesting post-classic choice.
I always like this one more than everyone else. Mostly because I like trucks. :silverado:
Seasons 1-9 - Classic era
10-12 - Scully era
13-16 - Silver age
16.5 - Into the abyss
17 - The shit abyss
18-24 - Zombie Simpsons
Maximum Homerdrive, huh?
Interesting choice; I actually caught a part of it on TV a couple of days ago but it will be nice rewatching the entire thing.

Oh, sorry guys! I thought I had to pick the episode only if Alexandre Leblanc didn't appear today.
Anyway, my choice will be the season 8 episode of The Simpsons, called Last Man On Earth:
And also known as Hurricane Neddy in commercial circles.

Nice choice, qwertyuio. I'm looking forward to rewatch and review both of these episodes even though they are so different. The first is more of a wacky Homer adventure and the second is a more character-based story.
Well that'll be for the following Saturday qwertyuio, June 23rd, but thanks for letting us know so early.![]()
If anyone has any lingering thoughts on Lisa the Simpson today's your last chance!!!!

Just rewatched Lisa The Simpson.
The main thing I have noticed in it is the general weakness of the characters. Not "weakness" in the sense of "badly-depicted", but in the sense of being forced to change in order to fit the ideas of the episode. The idea that Homer and Bart have a gene of stupidity does a lot of damage to this episode, it sort of relativizes their portrayal through the series; Homer is stupid, but he's also lazy and carefree, and I think that defines his character much better than just pointing him as the rude idiot who just can't give any more effort. And Bart is not an idiot, damn it. Being a "rebel without a cause", a yob and an agitator doesn't make him clueless, damn it.
In the same way I also found surprising that the roles of Dr. Hibbert and Dr. Nick seem to be inverted. For once, Hibbert is the negligent doctor whose knowledge of the profession falls below the basic requirements, and Nick is quite competent in this episode.
It is still quite good. One of the things I like the most is Homer's role in the episode, besides of the gene story. His determination to prove Lisa wrong comes as an answer after feeling offended rather than a sudden paternalistic vein, and somehow I think that fits the character much better. Also, I have to admit that Lisa is very well-rounded here. What this episode does really well is emphasizing the difference between Lisa and her environment, how she tends to find everybody else to be below her in intelligence levels, and acts in consequence. She is shown as pedantic and inconsiderate, which are truly inherent problems of the character.
I don't know what to think of the Simpsons gene. Its main problem is not even continuity nor its pretty ascientific tone; as said before, what bugged me is the way the characterizations of Homer and Bart are "rephrased" to fit that idea in this particular episode.
On the other hand, the subplot is funny, yet extremely forgettable, maybe because of being so unrelated to the main story. Some people already said it and I'm in the same case, I never remember that these two stories belong to the same episode.
I think it still deserves the same 9/10 I have always given to this episode. If only, because of that adorable detail with Bart "solving" the riddle. I never noticed that thing.

I don't know what everyone's problem is with reviewing "Maximum Homerdrive" this weekend, I'd much rather review a varying range of quality episodes than just classics each and every week - Looking forward to rewatching it...
I've got an animation question for zartok-35 regarding 'Lisa The Simpson': who animated the scene where we are introduced to the variety of Simpson relatives?

well i think we can all agree that a varying range of quality episodes is the way to go.
@Comicshow MolemanBob this hardly encompasses everyone. Why don't you read the other comments about the episode, It's one that garners little attention and should be interesting to see what others think.
I'm in favour of changing it up as I've haven't seen any of these post-classic offerings in quite sometime.

I am perfectly okay with post-classics that are not fan favorites being featured in this topic; many times they makes things a bit more interesting.
Well of course they do, I was just saying this isn't one of my favorites or anything. And that's coming from a pretty well known post-classic supporter.
Woooah, calm down cowboy...
I think it's time to start the review before handbags are thrown!![]()

Comicshow I'll address your concern since I only just now realized you directed it at me. I'm all for discussing post-classics, honestly I would've thought you'd know that by now considering my posting style. To be frank I've got my pick for 2 weeks from now down to 3 possible choices and one is from Season 14, an episode I love but I'm sure most others feel is average at best. My "d'oh" was primarily meant to be funny, and secondarily just meant to show I really don't like Maximum Homerdrive, but let me be clear: I certainly support discussing it and other post-classics.
Anyway with that said, Maximum Homerdrive is officially up for discussion!!!
