well the first season i really hated was 13, but it had some great holdovers so.
That's perfectly understandable!
i guess it's a good thing that i'm picking a scully episode then.
If it's Tennis the Menace (god forbid you actually pick that one!) then I have three words for that one:
WHAT THE FUCK?
it is.
Once I put the episode on the first post that's what it is whether you were joking or not. Tennis the Menace is one of the worst episodes of all time, but I think you were joking so I'll wait until Wednesday to put it in...
although i can think of about 200 episodes that are worst, it's obviously not my choice. i'm not gonna pick my episode a day after we started discussing this one.
That's a great example of an extreme Marge characterization; having her pour loads of steroids down her throat without a second thought was worse than pretty much anything she did in 'Brake'.
I like how they had her subconsciously hurting Homer which led to the reveal in the third act that she had grown a dislike of him; I think the subconscious angle of her behavior is pulled off pretty well.
Yes I agree with you @CousinMerl as I said when she kicks his cane out from under him merely on impulse is a nice little touch.
Brake My Wife, Please
I’ve said it (more than) once and I’ll say it again, I love Homer and Marge episodes!
Notable favorite scenes in the episode:
-The Penguin gag (funny)
-The Black Power scene (funny)
-The Dennis the Menace gag was hilarious!
-Song with Steve Buscemi is a catchy tune and made me laugh.
-When we first see Bart in the hospital, he had a cast and band-aid. Once Homer entered, did anyone else notice that Bart’s cast and band-aid were gone? (flaw)
Here are my favorite quotes from the episode:
-Carl: Was that Al Roker?!?
-Apu Nahasapemapetilon: Manjula, I'm so glad you have finally forgiven me for having that affair.
[Manjula elbows him hard in the stomach]
Apu Nahasapemapetilon: She used to elbow me in the face!
-Marge Simpson: I guess I'll have to do all your driving chores. That's what a good wife does, picks up the slack.
Homer Simpson: That reminds me, we gotta pick up my slacks at that dry cleaner in Shelbyville.
Marge Simpson: Why can't you use the local dry cleaner?
Homer Simpson: I didn't want them to know my size!
-George Wilson: Simpson, you're a menace!
Martha Wilson: Leave him alone George.
George Wilson: Martha, I want a divorce.
Martha Wilson: Oh thank you, you've made me so happy.
Overall, I think it’s one of the better episodes of the season and one of my favorite Homer and Marge episodes, 4/5.

you're a mystery spongebob
So for those of you who doesn't hate the episode, how does it compare to other post-classic era Homer & Marge episodes? (I honestly don't remember too many post-classic Homer & Marge episodes at the moment, but I'd definitely place this in the above average/good category along with such episodes like 'Half-Decent Proposal'; it's definitely not one of the more lackluster episoes of the season and the wacky moments doesn't really bother me).

Well there are several Homer and Marge episodes during the Jean Era, but too many of them are pretty forgettable. Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play, Regarding Margie, etc...I'd rank this higher than those two for sure but then I really enjoyed this one more than everyone else so...
Top three.

I find it better than the slightly overrated Half-Decent Proposal, as well as Regarding Margie, which I just watched yesterday. I'd compare it in quality to Diatribe of a Mad Housewife, which I also quite enjoy.

Brake My Wife Please
This episode sees Homer loose his liscense and Marge, having to pick up the slack, becoming the family's chaffeur. I did like the subconcious things Marge did to Homer that are shades of "Dial M for Murder" but I find it hard to believe that Marge would get so stressed out that she would want to kill Homer in the first place. Another plot hole or botch in this episode is when Homer decides to walk to Moe's, since Marge is always driving a member of the family around, we see Marge in the very next scene when Homer gets to Moe's after walking only a short distance. Seeing the Texas Millionare at the begining also reminded me of his overuse from this era (thankfully he's not seen nearly as much anymore).
As many have mentioned I did like the penguin gag, the Dennis the Menace reference, the Steve Buscemi musical number and Flanders trip to Montana. As for the main story it is still rather forgettable even after having to watch it twice to get some sort of feel for the episode.
Other odd observations:
Is that Senor Ding Dong working at the cell phone store?
This episode aired the day before I started at my current job. (I know, how exciting!)
For post-classic Homer and Marge stories I find Regarding Margie to be my favorite. They have done so many of them it's hard to have any standouts and this is not one of them.
5/10
