Just be thankful
That made me sick. Was it just because they were running low on time or something? Surely they could have made room by deleting things other than the actual ending. Ugh.
I read about that original ending not long after the episode aired, and I'll never forget it. I don't know, seems like a weird thing to remember, but that was around the time when I was still looking forward to their Treehouse of Horrors, and "Heck House" sounded like the coolest one in a long time. You can always depend on The Simpsons to disapoint.
Also, source on Al Jean hating Family Guy's rape gag? Lol.
Also, while it was at the beginning of the show's run, Tiny Toon Adventures referenced/poked fun at The Simpsons. In one episode "Brad Simpleton" is the host of a Saturday Night Live parody, and the characters repeatedly bash on him(probably a reference to the whole Bartmania thing and it's perceived annoyance back in 1990/1991). Another episode has Bab's Bunny turn into caricatures of some of the family members.
Nobody is giving an answer to this question and others are giving references that don't relate to the topic. This thread should be locked.

Just remembered: in one of the new 2003 Ren & Stimpy episodes (Altruists), there's a discussion between Mr & Mrs Pipe about cartoon shows that need a writing staff of 25 Harvard Graduates to come up with stupid lame stuff and make lots of cash. Ren & Stimpy themselves are on the tv as they say this, but it's pretty obvious they're actually making fun of the Simpsons whose writing room had recently become this big.
(Of course according to John K, the Simpsons already declined when they went from Tracey Ullman shorts to series)
500 episodes, about 200 good ones.

The episode "Whacking Day'' curiously aired the same day as Seinfeld's "The Contest'', which deals with a different kind of whacking.
at the current moment all the free episodes on the official website of the entire series named "southpark".
the official site has all, even the recently finished (this year) and barely aired on tv because they are so new...
for the rest, is futurama the main series that i like more than the simpsons.
my all time favorite episodes :
El viaje misterioso de nuestro Homero, the springfield files, the old man and the lisa, how they saved lisa's brain, realty bites, whacking day, Homer the Great, Mayored to the Mob, Hurricane Neddy, Monty Can't Buy Me Love, You Only Move Twice, King-Size Homer, Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming, Two Bad Neighbors, Homer the Smithers, Kidney Trouble.
the old treehouse of horror episodes.
I remember a the cleveland show' chapter when rallo is riding a sheep in a contest and he said
"What do you say once we win this championship, we retire on top, like The Simpsons"
