Family Guy, on a few occasions. Notably in the O.J. Simpson episode where Adam West comments "Go away Simpson, we don't love you like we did in 1994!", and the scene shifts to Homer who then exclaims "Do'h!"

Also in a song there's a scene with a guy wearing a Bart shirt laughing at the show with his friends in the 90s, then the scene changes to just the guy laughing by himself in the modern day. I can't remember the exact lyric, but it was something along the lines of laughing at the show in 1994, but not realizing that " the damn thing isn't funny anymore."

EDIT: This song, at about 2:15 in: http://www.yourdailymedia.com/video/watch/9180/

That song is actually one of the few Family Guy things I actually enjoy.

Seth looks kinda cynical when he does jokes like this and then he pretends to be friendly with The Simpsons staff . Comparatively the puns in the Simpsons have been less "insulting", I mean, it's one thing to say that F.G. is a copy of The Simpsons and it's another one to dismiss the work of the current writers. No matter if you agree or not, you can easily take back the first one, but not so much the second one. If you think the current Simpsons actually suck you should stay at that statement, much like South Park creators admit they dislike Family Guy. Of course Seth can think current Simpsons sucks and still think the guys writing them are nice people, but still it kinda make him look like the one who throws the stone and hide his hand.

This comment aside that song has some edge to it, and some funny lyrics, a dynamic montage that works well visually even with the ugly FG designs and animation, and a nice melody.
    My Simpsons homage!

Calling it crude lowbrow programming isn't really a pun though. Its more of a dismissing of the work of the current writers
500 episodes, about 200 good ones.

The episode "Whacking Day'' curiously aired the same day as Seinfeld's "The Contest'', which deals with a different kind of whacking.

That 1994 reference in FG is spot on. Worked well for the scene.

It was by far the best line in the episode.

I'm cool with both those Family Guy jokes and the one where Stewie runs down Homer, but the one with Quagmire and Marge having sex and then killing the family is truly awful. The worst joke Family Guy has ever done, imo. I'd defend to the death their right to do it, but I personally find it horrendous. The Simpsons is still, thankfully, above that...

Oh, and regarding the main topic American Dad had an episode recently where Roger is surprised to learn Who Shot Mr. Burns aired 15 years ago. He doesn't really insult the show though. It was a cute scene, imo.

Fun fact: after that joke aired, the Simpsons staff actually quickly edited out a similar joke that had Marge killing peter from a family guy ad on the bottom of the screen which would've aired about a week later

It's already easy for Family Guy to do that. Seth wants The Simpsons to end so the torch can be passed on to Family Guy. But anyone who stopped watching The Simpsons could very well watch neither. Just like that parent who sees their two kids fighting over something and teaching the kids a lesson by confiscating what was being fought over.

Then giving it to South Park.

With South Park being renewed until at least 2016, I wouldn't be surprised if people start accusing South Park of overstaying its welcome. But Comedy Central hasn't been able to get a big hit out of any other shows so that makes it easier to keep South Park around.

I have a feeling that Comedy Central will at least renew it for 2017 so it could celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Well alright sure, not to the death. But what I mean is if given the chance I'd support their right to make any joke they want, the Simpsons is not above criticism and all that jazz. There was a Family Guy line where Peter says he disagreed with someone but would defend to the death his right to say it or something which is kinda what I was going for...it was certainly in my head when I wrote it at least...but I don't recall the episode at the moment.

Yep, I knew it was pre-cancellation at least. That's the one where they go after Daggermouth or whatever from Season 3. I was a pretty big Family Guy fan at one point.

Oh, you mean when they won't stop advertising for FOX and Marge vacuums up the football player/proceeds to kill several other FOX shows? Yeah I forget which one that was but Family Guy wasn't there, but if they took it out that's dumb I mean the point was mentioning how FOX advertises for their other shows and how obnoxious it is. I thought he meant they did something as awful as Family Guy in specific retaliation....scared me for a bit....

EDIT: Found a IGN article with the info. Treehouse of Horror XVIII apparently and Peter was gonna be put in a blender, the scene continued after that. I'd have to see it for sure, and this is coming from a Simpsons fan, but I have to believe his inclusion wouldn't have been as awful as that rape/murder thing. If for no other reasons than it being a Halloween episode and Peter not being the only target...it sounds funny honestly.

Off topic but that article also mentioned the Sausage Man deleted scene from the movie that wasn't on the DVD. They really need to give it a better release we know they had much more from it that wasn't on there...

That's right, it was from that THOH. Always found it curious how Al Jean got all upset about that joke from Family Guy, when he himself put in a lighter version of that gag (I think it was shown on comic con) and then it was quickly replaced by another ad. That had to be animated fast, and Maurice LaMarche is still credited as a guest star for voicing Peter while he isn't in the rest of the episode.

Still, not as bad as deleting a cool as hell ending for that lame wall street journal joke...

Right now Family Guy is miles better than the Simpsons, actually.

Other than Family Guy I don't think any other show has made fun of it's decline...the closest I can think of is "Simpsons did it!" in South Park and possibly Cartman proving that he was more badass than Bart in "Cartoon Wars".

Cartman: "What's the worst thing you've ever done?"
Bart: "I cut the head off a statue once"
Cartman: "Wow man, that's pretty hardcore....that reminds me of this one time, there was this kid I didn't like...so I ground his parents up into chilli and FED IT TO HIM!"

There is one other Simpsons reference that not many people know about and it's pretty cute. In the Beavis and Butt-Head episode "A Very special episode" when Butt-Head is trying to fill out a medical form he misreads the word "Symptoms" as "Simpsons".

Butt-Head: "Siiiimp....sim....Simpsons? Uh...they're pretty cool, uh huh huh huh huh."

    Just be thankful

Skip to 2:07 to hear him say it. (The sound quality is clear enough, but the video quality is shit)

Dear God...Beavis screaming at that cat is priceless

Is this alternate scene online anywhere?

I dunno what you're referencing there with the wall street journal joke, but yeah I would've left it in. I mean Homer's received worse than that in other episodes...

That made me sick. Was it just because they were running low on time or something? Surely they could have made room by deleting things other than the actual ending. Ugh.

I read about that original ending not long after the episode aired, and I'll never forget it. I don't know, seems like a weird thing to remember, but that was around the time when I was still looking forward to their Treehouse of Horrors, and "Heck House" sounded like the coolest one in a long time. You can always depend on The Simpsons to disapoint.

Also, source on Al Jean hating Family Guy's rape gag? Lol.

I doubt there'd be a really obvious joke about the Simpsons declining as that'd be viewed as the show who made the joke is being petty and jealous over the Simpsons's success. I think the most direct joke we'll ever see is the FG line about it not being funny since '94.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.
