I think if you go back to page 2, myself and Jerkass Homer discussed the incident with the Thunder. Don't worry, time is catching up with old Ron Ron, he'll be gone soon.

In other interesting developments, for some reason Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was shagging fly balls during batting practice and tore the ACL and meniscus in his knee. It sounds like it could be career ending, what a way to go out.

  3. #123

Maybe it was a sign to let go of the game. I agree, a horrible way to end a career but maybe it was for the best. I mean, it's rare these days when someone has a "perfect retirement" like that of John Elway going out on top and such. Keeping it in baseball mode, look at Nolan Ryan and why he retired.

I just read today that Rivera vows to come back next season. I still don't understand why the don't have, you know, outfielders shag fly balls.

Well the Phillies lost their second game out of the last three in extras....damn.

Flyers went down in OT so now the pressures on....damn

Sixers are surprisingly winning their series against the Bulls after Rose got injured trying to run up the score in game one....too bad I don't really care about basketball.

Hey Rasp, what was wrong with Halladay the other night? According to Yahoo, he left right after the game for personal reasons....possibly involving family.

He got knocked around for what? I think 8 runs by the Braves...which doesn't happen. The last time he gave up more than 5 runs in a game was in 07. Ironically the Phillies should've won that game anyway but they lost in extras. But you're right, he did leave the team to deal with a personal matter though he's already back. He was in the dugout during tonight's game. I don't know if they've said what the absence was about though specifically.

True. There's no problem with doing that; it was just a freak injury.

To have the best closer in the history of the game running around doing something he's not accustomed to is a senseless risk to me. Have him stick to warming up in the bullpen instead.

  11. #131

I don't want to sound negative but no matter how hard he works to get back on track, his career is over. Besides, it's Robertson's time. Let me make this clear, I am a Milwaukee Brewers fan, not a Yankees fan. It's just rough seeing the all-time saves in MLB history leader have such bad luck after such a magnificent career.

If he does come back he probably won't be the same. If Robertson can get the job done then Rivera will probably be in a limited role from the bullpen, or at best end his career as it started as a set-up man.

rivera will be back, and i'm done doubting him so i wouldn't be surprised if he put together one more nice season before retiring.

    anyway, basketball. go celtics!

  14. #134

I'm surprisingly pushing for the Celtics to beat up on those rowdy Atlanta Hawks. In other basketball news, Joakim Noah is out today with an ankle injury. With all of these injuries as of late and as much as I don't want to say it, our season is pretty much over fellow Bulls fans.

The Impact with a hard-working and deserved win away v Sporting Kansas City! Completely out of the blue and the team seem to have an understanding at last.

It was always going to be an hard season away being an expansion team and all that, but we are proving that we can compete and Marsh has the right ideas to move the club forward despite his flaws. Hopefully Ferrari-Rivas can forge a partnership soon with both of them fit as the idea of having Wahl in defence is quite depressing.

And with reports saying we've signed Marco di Vaio that should fix our problems infront of goal. An experienced and cultured forward who was still scoring goals in Italy's top flight can only be a good thing, hopefully.

A shame that a good portion of the Montreal folklore are still in denial about the team and the sport. Open yourselves up to other sports you NHL-driven fruitcakes...

Well, the Flyers are done. Looks like pretty slim pickens in the playoffs now. I guess I'll have to hope for the Rangers (ugh).

That Giroux suspension was kind of sketchy. Although I liked Shanahan as a player for the Wings, he's quite a crooked NHL Head Disciplinarian.

He is very inconsistent but the suspension was warranted. Giroux also gave a BS story after the fact (he leaned in). I like Giroux but it was a cheap shot.

EDIT: Personally I think Bettman and Daly are pulling the strings on old Shanny. See the nonsuspension to Ovechkin.

Raspy, I know you're a Phillies fan (you are, aren't you?)...what do you think of Hamels intentionally throwing at Bryce Harper and ADMITTING to it?

Personally I loved it, love Hamels, don't like Harper, fully support Hamels. Glad he admitted it too, although we all know he wouldn't have been punished at all if he denied it despite how blatant it was.

In other news the Phillies have just lost 2 games at home against the New York Mets they had no business losing....my reaction?

  22. #142

The funny thing is, though, is that Jordan Zimmermann (who is a celebrity from a town near where I currently live) intentionally hit Hamels and yet he didn't get any sort of punishment. Hamels was punished and I think Zimmermann should have been too, regardless of admitting or not and even if he was defending his teammate.

Eh, it isn't really surprising. Hamels took all the attention, and had to know he was gonna get hit anyway.

EDIT: Well...after watching the last 3 games I feel like....

The Jays have signed Vlad Guerrero to a minor league deal. It will be interesting to see if he will crack the line-up. Guerrero will add a veteran presence to the clubhouse if he does.

Also the Bulls are ousted by the Sixers, oh what could have been...

  26. #146

So if Vlad gets into the line-up, he'd more than likely DH, right? If that's the case, what are they going to do with Encarnacion?

Either DH or go to the outfield. If he does get back in shape and makes the line-up there will be some shuffling required. Right now it's Adam Lind that's on the hotseat, I think they can find a place for Encarnacion.

For us Canadians it's just over a month away with the CFL starting up at the end of June. My team the Saskatchewan Roughriders even got a couple of mentions on The Simpsons, most notably in "When Fladers Failed", I can't recall which episode the other reference came from though (Roughriders vs. Rough Riders). The Ottawa Rough Riders folded in 1996 but got another team the Renegades in 2002. They folded in 2006 but they are set to get yet another shot in 2014.end niche sport rambling

The Jays are now make inquiries to the Phillies about Cole Hamels and Shane Victorino. Alex A. is really trying to make some interesting moves (Sorry rasp).
