    Matt Selman New Showrunner?

To be honest, I've been zoning in and out of the show this season, and at this point, I'm too busy to seek out what I've missed right away.

I DID hear, back in November, that Matt Selman FINALLY got a brief shot at becoming the new showrunner. Any further developments with that?

He co-showran 2 episodes, one he wrote, at the end of the old production line. All the new PABF production line episodes remain solo-Jean run episodes so yeah...

for two episodes he was listed as Executive Producer, with Al Jean; The Food Wife and The Book Job.

don't think there's been any news on any further development.

Let's start a petition to force Al Jean to quit and have Matt Selman to be show runner.

JEAN: Hey look at this petition...we can work this into a S24 episode and call it a ME-tition. Clever, huh?
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

I'd rather have someone who currently isn't part of the staff, give it to someone with fresh ideas. The chances of that happening are pretty low and I suppose Selman would be the best option out of that lot.

Weinstein/Oakley or Mirkin would be a dream but alas that won't happen.

I think it might be an interesting experiment if Mike Reiss rejoined Al Jean for a few episodes to see how much of the Jean/Reiss era's greatness he was responsible for.

I think Jean's creatively burned out, but nobody on the staff has the balls, or second job that pays as well, to tell him so. With the show being grandfathered into TV, sadly, along with fans that could care less if the show sucks as long it continues, there's no creative motivation to do anything different now, or five years from now beyond celebrating the obligatory milestone episode. The only solution to changing the Simpsons staff right now is if it ended suddenly for reasons beyond Fox's control (someone dying heaven forbid) and it came back 20 years from now as a reboot. Even if Jean did return after 2 decades, it would be 20 years away from the show and he could be full fresh ideas, or there'd be a new staff.

Sadly, the only thing that could remove the current writing staff from Gracie is the jaws of life.

I totally agree, a new imagination and new ideas would more than likely bring back you ex-fans. I'm a fan no matter what but it'd be good to see the show continue!

I doubt it considering he's part of the writing staff.

Maybe as showrunner, his ideas will be more accepted and agreed upon!

From what we've seen of him, Matt Selman would be pretty good as a showrunner; he may not be able to make classic Simpsons episodes but he can make enjoyable episodes and at some rare circumstances, some pretty good parodies. Unfortunately, the iron grip of Al Jean remains strong so there will probably be no further developments with Matt Selman being the showrunner; which is simple a shame.
