I wasn't watching right out of the gates in '87. I didn't watch Ullman until it was blocked with It's Garry Shandling's Show in '88 and I watched them back-to-back.
I still remember the catchy theme to Garry's show as well.
That's funny, I remember watching the Garry Shandling show with my parents around this same time, but I guess they weren't fans of Tracey Ullman. So I did have the opprotunity to see the shorts when they originally aired. Oh well, I downloaded the torrent with all 48 shorts, I've always thought of these as the Simpsons in newspaper comic strip format. Most are quite enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure it was the first episode, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". I remember asking my parents "Mommy and Daddy, what's that yellow man doing?" (when Homer was gambling at the track) and my Dad replied "SOMETHING YOU SHOULD NEVER DO!" Haha, what a funny memory that was.

I have no idea, my dad hooked me from an early age (About 5), I remember Homer^3 being the first episode I remember watching but I don't remember if that was the first I ever saw.

Ha, that might be quite confusing for a first episode.

Actually I watched 2 minutes, and I found this show weird so I turned off the TV.
Now obviously, it's one of my favorite episode of the season 7.

I can see how tuning in at the wrong moment during 22 Short Films can be a disturbing experience.

Bart the General when I was six, when it first aired.

I then occasionally watched the show but really started to watch every episode as they aired at around season four. Then I stopped following the show between seasons 15 through 18 (College), then I got back into it, played catch up with the four seasons I missed and have watched new episodes as they aired since season 19.

when you find something you don't like on tv you just turn off the tv?

we are two very different people.

seriously I can't remember the first episode, could either be Trehhouse of Horror IV or Bart of Darkness, I really can't remember. I must have been 5 or 6. good times

Same here! I remember waiting patiently everyday for it to come on when I was younger, after Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Good times.

I can't remember but I am so FORTUNATE that it was definitely one from the first 9 seasons, I think it was possibly 'Simpsons Roasting on an open fire' also. I remember that I started watching The Simpsons by accident, just one of those moments where you go "This 'll do" and I haven't regretted it since. I feel so sorry for any 21st century kid whose first experience of watching The Simpsons will be a cringeworthy scene where Homer is arguing with an Israeli tour guide...

  13. #43

Amen to that, BGM! That tour guide in The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed was terribly obnoxious and gave people the impression that all of the people in Israel are loud, obnoxious, pompous tools.

The first episode I ever saw was Bart's Dog Gets an F. I used to watch the show with my parents, until they stopped watching with "New Kid on the Block" in season four.

I also have several episodes on tapes my parents made for me that were recorded off the Fox station in San Jose, California(alongside episodes of other cartoons like TMNT, Tiny Toons, and Garfield and Friends), and since we moved from San Jose just before I turned five, these are all from early season five or earlier.

'Team Homer' is the first episode that comes to mind when asking myself this question. The first episode I watched in French was 'The Crepes of Wrath' with possibly one of the strangest endings I've ever seen (what happens when Bart speaks French the whole episode, the bloke oesn't understand him, Bart realises he can speak French despite talking the language during the episode and then the bloke mysteriously understands his own language a few seconds later!)

honestly have no clue. i wanna say something from s12/13, but i have no recollection of the precise episode

Some of the earliest episodes I remember watching are Dancin' Homer, Itchy & Scratchy & Marge, and Bart Gets Hit By A Car. Though I seem to remember seeing the latter two before DH, so I probably saw that one in reruns. In any case, it's probably safe to say that I started watching sometime during season 2.

I'm not at all certain, but it could well have been Who Shot Mr. Burns part 1. It's the first episode I remember seeing, at least. It was quite a while before I saw part 2, as I recall.

I can't remember what was the first episode I ever watched because before I become a real fan of this series, I watched many episodes without taking care of the name of the episode, etc...
French fan of the Simpsons and proud of it !

And did BBC 2 air seasons within a reasonable time of their US airing?
Not really, they were always five years behind as part of the deal that Sky had exclusive rights to new episodes for that long. I think it's the same with Channel 4

No, I remember when I came on this episode, it was nearly here :

Not sure if this was the first time I saw the Simpsons though, but this is my deepest souvenir.
    Obviously, I found that weird.

My first episode was a repeat of "Lisa the Beauty Queen" back in 2002.
"Alright, can you read this out for me?"

    "Are you married?"
    "GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"
"Well, with a temper like that, he'll never!:)"

Me too. I've been with it since the beginning.

Sometimes I think to myself: "I'm too old to be watching a cartoon."
Then I think: "Shut up, brain. You've done nothing but get me into trouble!"
