Just watched your reviews for I Love Lisa, Last Temptation of Homer and 22 Short Films. You cram a lot into 60 seconds! I particularly enjoyed your breakdown of 22 Short Films.

I finally finished Episode #10, which is an episode I've wanted to do quite for a long time.



As some of you may know, I'm a huge fan of the mystery genre, reading book after book of the stuff. So an episode like Who Shot Mr. Burns is extremely interesting to me. Not only is the construction of the mystery interesting and how it works, but it's interesting to analyze how the mystery format affects the episode quality. The mystery format is a little problematic in some ways, and it probably contributes to the episode not feeling as jokey. But it's still a really amazing feat by the writers, especially considering how much they had to cram into 22 minutes.

As promised, Episode #11 will be either Cape Feare (an episode in my Top 10), Day of the Jackanapes (an episode with, uh, its share of problems), or The Great Louse Detective (an episode with a somewhat notable ending). I'm going to work on a different project for this week, so I'll start on that episode next week... So someone has to break the tie first!

Since I keep teasing you guys and asking for suggestions (and then not doing them), I promise I'll do a Sideshow Bob episode for #11. I almost did Black Widower this week but held off for the sake of variety. I'll add a poll to this thread and whichever episode gets the most votes, I'll choose.

Since the poll ended in a 3-way tie, we're going to instead have a Sideshow Bob Month. We're going to go chronologically, starting with "Cape Feare" tomorrow, and follow it up with "Day of the Jackanapes" and "The Great Louse Detective" at later dates. All of the writing/recording/screen-capping is done, so all I gotta do now is the animation. I'll be on vacation next week, but you can probably expect Jackanapes and Louse Detective in the last couple weeks of July.

Writing about Jackanapes was surprisingly easy, and Louse Detective surprisingly hard. But I've found that the worse writer's block I get and the more I fight mentally with the subject matter, the better the project usually turns out (due to not caring so much). Maybe in the future, I should just drink scotch for an hour before writing.

I'll have a new poll up for Episode #14 tomorrow as well.

As promised, here is the first part of our amazing Sideshow Bob Month, Cape Feare. It's tough to do an episode like Cape Feare, because dissecting a masterpiece like this one never seems right. I stuck more to the general theme/tone of the episode instead, after (of course) effusively praising the episode.
