Favourite Animated Show (apart from The Simpsons)

Curious as to what would win this. Personally for me it's Futurama, it's consistently funnier than the rest and has less annoying characters. South Park is very funny at times but also has episodes where i'm barely laughing, Family Guy is ruined by my hatred of Peter Griffin, and American Dad is inconsistent on both counts: characters swerve between annoying and funny as much as the jokes.

And yes, Clone High is only on here because I personally love it.

I don't know; none of them stand out. There are tons more animated shows out there that could be considered the best ever but on here; I don't know...

    EDIT: Thoughts on each.

Futurama: It's four seasons are pretty good but it's later seasons and movies do contain some bumps in the road; regardless of whether or not the newer seasons existed, I wouldn't consider it the best; I'd consider it a cult classic but there are some things that are holding it back.
Family Guy: It is decent but it all depends on taste; you may be the person who'll hate the cutaway gags or the snub attitude of the show, or you may love it. Due to that I'm not sure it would ever be considered an animated classic but it is somewhat of a gamechanger.
South Park: Alot of it's episodes are good, it does break boundaries but it's later episodes don't have much of the same impact; it isn't completely terrible, there are some episodes ranging from good to decent in the newer seasons but it's at the point where Matt & Trey are going through the action movie/conspiracy notions.
American Dad: Like Family Guy but with some sensibility and a better cast of characters; even though it contains a higher number of better episodes, it does have some bumps in the road and not everything is 100% perfect; especially compared to other animated series.
King of the Hill: A family series with a realistic base and great characters; it's one of my favorites but I wouldn't say it's a definate favorite, some elements of the show don't connect with me, though it is entertainable and very good in a lot of parts.
Spongebob Squarepants: It's first few seasons were good; the series had a comedy that combined surrealism with wackyness and made it work. Had it ended with the movie, it's standing would be higher but they felt the need to pump out more and more and more and more of this crap, diluting it every episode they produce after the movie.
Mission Hill: Despite it's short lived status; it did manage to produce some good episodes throughout it's run and it has a distinctive animation style. It could of gone on for more episodes but I wouldn't call this a huge favorite, not as wild as seeing the same episodes over and over again, it is still good animated TV though.
Clone High: I have barely seen this series; from what I've seen it is pretty interesting but more time is needed before I can tell whether I like this or not.
The Boondocks: Definately a gamechanger; black culture mixed with anime style animation = crazy delicious. It's one of my top favorites but it contains some unevenness and much of the material isn't exactly legendary material, doesn't mean it's not amazing though.
Bob's Burgers: Currently the best animated series on Fox; it's got good characters, good stories, good appeal, I'd say it's up there with King of the Hill. Not my personal favorite though but I do like it.
Drawn Together: Eh, the reality show stuff is admirable but it's nothing special; it's something that you can watch, get into and enjoy when it's on TV.
The Cleveland Show: The pathetic Family Guy ripoff from the guy who made Family Guy, you kidding me? It's later seasons may be good but I still hold the opinion the show is worthless crap specifically designed to make money in syndication.
The Fairly OddParents: Stars Tara Strong, who is best known as the woman who appears in every animated series ever made. Don't believe me? check her IMDB page; there is a likely chance that she voiced a role on a show you watched as a kid or an adult. I've watched this and while I thought it was pretty good back then, now not so much. It is one of the better NickToons though and it does contain some absurdish humor and decent pop-culture references but it goes overboard on the pop-culture stuff; the fairy characters lost any sensibilities they had, everybody (while looking good) is hard to relate to due to being incredibly stupid and lazy, the plots can collapse on themselves when there's no direction and Cosmo is a bit too much of an idiot (even more so then Homer Simpson) for me to care.
Animaniacs: Animations most referenced children's show, for good reason. It appeals to all audiences, the antics are enjoyable and there are even all types of humor in there; I may have not seen it in a while but from what I remember it is good and it's one of the gems of the golden age of WB TV animation. Even with all that, it's still not my personal favorite, it's up there though...
Robot Chicken: I used to watch this back in the day but now, eh. Guess it's a preference of whether or not you like the cutaways and the style of humor presented, they do some decent parodies though I have to admit.
Pinky and the Brain: Same as Animaniacs, though it is darker and appeals to a different kind of audience. I liked it, may need to rewatch it to see if I still like it; was one of my favorites, probably still a favorite.

I don't know, I guess I like all animated shows equally; even the obscure ones. However, that doesn't mean I like every animated series, there are some that I dislike and to a rare extent, hate but for those that I watch, I do like them but it's hard for me to chose a definite favorite. There are a ton of gems here though...

Phineas and Ferb is the best, but American Dad is on the poll, so I went with that. I like Clone High too, but not quite as much.

My thoughts on each of these:

Futurama - Particularly great first four seasons, practically classic Simpsons level. The quality of the movies and more recent two seasons is a little more uneven though.

Family Guy - Some decent jokes, but overall, far too obnoxious, smug, mean-spirited, and unpleasant.

South Park - When it puts the effort forth, can be hilarious, thoughtful, creative, and even a little moving. There're just as many "filler" episodes these days though, so it remains one of the most inconsistent shows on the list.

American Dad - Like Family Guy, but with much more of an identity and a better joke ratio. Its unique brand of insanity is often appealing, but it occasionally falls into formulaic stuff and unpleasant stuff as well.

King of the Hill - The first six seasons are outstanding. The rest of the show is solid. I've seen nearly all the episodes multiple times and I can't get enough. Generally great writing and characters all-around, with a relatively long string of episodes before it starts to wane in quality (and even that isn't as big as pretty much any other show here).

Spongebob Squarepants - Works very well as a silly, funny cartoon. I haven't seen much beyond the third season, but what I have seen does indeed feel a little too "weird" and gross without the silly amusement of the earlier shows. It also feels a little more limited in scope, unlike many shows, which can branch beyond just comedy and be interesting in other ways.

Mission Hill - I rather enjoyed this one and it definitely had potential to be great, but it just ended far too soon. What's there is nice but it's just not enough for now. Reminiscent of KotH.

Clone High - Haven't seen it.

The Boondocks - Too racially charged for me. I just can't get into its brand of humor.

Bob's Burgers - Very promising opening season, fun characters and good development and voice work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Drawn Together - Way too nasty.

The Cleveland Show - Only saw a couple episodes, it's very dull and weakly-written.

The Fairly OddParents - Pretty consistent and funny, one of the better Nicktoons. The same limitations that hold SpongeBob back apply here though.

Animaniacs - Definitely a clever and high-quality cartoon with a superb soundtrack. It's a little weakened by having so many segments, many of which don't measure up to the Warners (or Pinky and the Brain). Also, it's a little too pop-culture-parade at times with the celebrities, but I do love their musical parodies.

Robot Chicken - Meh, pretty much Family Guy concentrated solely into cutaways, complete with the required "childhood icon swears a lot" gag coming at you in spades.

Pinky and the Brain - I prefer these guys in more bite-sized doses within the Animaniacs show.

Personally, I'd replace something on here with Beavis and Butt-Head, one of the funniest cartoons I've seen and something that--unlike most shows here--has only gotten better as it's gone on.

    To rank my top ones...

Simpsons > King of the Hill > Futurama > Beavis and Butt-Head > South Park
    My Nintendo webcomic,

Good writing is what makes a good television show. As story will always be what keeps or breaks the audience.
But my vote, goes to Adventure Time.

It may be for children and at times for girls. And as a 21 year old male thats not usually in my demographic.
But I want to be an animator. Not like some run of the mill typical Disney lover. To me, I appreciate the creativity that goes into the story boarding and character design. I Love what Frederator is doing.

I'm not talking about pretty clean animation you see on 23 of the simpsons. I'm talking about the expressions and just pure imagination that makes a character move and talk.
I'm formal. But I'm here to party.

Voted Mission Hill but only because I haven't seen many of the others (KOTH, Clone High etc).

I have seen Futurama and South Park but I would be lying if I really liked either. Futurama's first four seasons were decent but I still don't find the show that funny and there's only about 3 good characters (Fry, Leela, Bender) worth watching for. To me the show only really succeeds when it goes all out with some high-concept or emotional episode (The Sting, The Luck of the Fryrish), and those are awesome. As for the newer seasons, they disappointed me. I can't quite put my finger on it but some of them had a kinda "New Simpsons" vibe to them which wasn't great.

South Park is decent enough but I get tired of it really quickly. I don't really find it that funny and the whole style of the show ultimately doesn't appeal to me. There's only a handful of episodes that I really enjoy (Fishsticks, Cartoon Wars).

Oh I forgot I also like Adventure Time but that wasn't up there.

This poll has reminded me to start viewing Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents from an adult perspective again - I remember these as being pretty damned funny in their own right and getting stuff past the radar. KOTH I do love, but for some reason I find the setting more alienating than other American shows so I have to be in the right mood - like Futurama I haven't even seen every episode (which I really should do, considering that I still find time for Cleveland). This has also reminded me to try and track down more eps of Beavis & Butthead and Mission Hill (v. hard to find as I have never seen either on TV/DVD around here). I pretty much concur with TriforceBun, and other than all this I can't wait for South Park to come back - it really takes the biscuit as far as topical humour goes, because unlike my other favourites the shorter production time allows it to actually be relevant (I can't really care how hilarious your presidential election joke is if the thing happened eight months ago!).

ETA: Tara Strong has my dream job. That just goes to show that one talented (noticed) person can have a really great career in voice acting.

Voted for SpongeBob SquarePants. This show was my childhood, and as I grew up, I discovered that I still loved it, especially the first three seasons.
Favourite/least favourite by seasons that I own (somewhat stolen from Financial Panther):

    3 - Dog of Death/When Flanders Failed 4 - Lisa's First Word/So it's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show 5 - Secrets of a Successful Marriage/Bart's Inner Child 6 - And Maggie Makes Three/Another Simpsons Clip Show 7 - Marge Be Not Proud/Bart the Fink 8 - Homer's Phobia/The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase 9 - King of the Hill/Trash of the Titans 10 - Wild Barts Can't Be Broken/Maximum Homerdrive

I love South Park also and Cartman what a little piggy anti semite, god I love him

    Ye Famly Guy not good.

Futurama - First four seasons are absolutely brilliant. The recent season is uneven, with some fantastic episodes (e.g. The Late Philip J. Fry, Law and Oracle) and some horrendous ones (Proposition Infinity, Yo Leela Leela

Family Guy - Has its moments, but too inconsistant. I don't mind cruelty and cutaway gags as long as they're actually funny.

South Park - Used to be excellent. It has been in a rut for some time, but the episodes are still usually worth watching. I thought the last season was something of an improvement overall.

American Dad - Decent, better consistency than Family Guy with more interesting characters.

King of the Hill - I've only seen a fairly small number of episodes, due to it hardly being shown in the UK, but I've enjoyed the ones I have seen. I like the realistic, understated style of the show.

Bob's Burgers - Only saw one episode which didn't really do anything for me, and I hated the art style. I should probably give it another chance.

Drawn Together - From what I remember, it was pretty funny in an incredibly immature sort of way.

The Cleveland Show - Awful. I haven't seen it produce anything the least bit amusing.

Robot Chicken - Definitely best watched under the influence of something

Shows not on here that should have been:

The Venture Brothers- Great show with surprisingly complex characters. Just behind Futurama for me.

I haven't seen the rest of the shows.

My vote goes to Futurama, obviously.

I voted for King Of The Hill, but I enjoy South Park and Family Guy as well. I used to watch Futurama as a kid, but don't watch it anymore.
I don't really know much about the intricate world of animation, so I don't tend to be a critical viewer. As long as it makes me laugh consistently for a half hour, I'm happy.

The unfair answer would be the old package shows that used to showcase classic theatrical cartoons(ACME Hour, Mickey's Mouse Tracks, Tex Avery/Chuck Jones/Bob Clampett Show, and so on), but out of actual animated TV series, and of the choices you've listed, I'd pick King of the Hill or Futurama. I like some older South Park, but I've found the older I get the less I can tolerate it. I liked Family Guy, but I watched it so much that I've literally burned out of it. Spongebob was good, but I'd rather watch YouTube videos of individual jokes than full episodes these days, and some shows, like Mission Hill, were also good but too short for me to name them as a favorite. Everything else is either "eh" or something that I don't watch.

My favorite animated show that hasn't been mentioned is Tiny Toon Adventures. Despite the somewhat inconsistent first season, I've always found it to be better than both Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, and the only Spielberg/WB show that I think is better quality-wise is Freakazoid.

Gonna go with South Park and Beavis and Butthead. Two spectacular, long-running shows that just get better and better. Well, South Park may be showing some wear, but I say it's still going strong.

Have to agree with you on Beavis and Butthead, it's strong on it's return and it's plots are gold but South Park, the reasons I said above state the state of the show well. It can still good but that stuff needs to die down just a bit.

Neither of those shows are a favorite but Beavis can be considered one of the best animated series on the air right now.

Metalocalypse. I'm just incredibly obsessed with it.
Others would be: Archer, Futurama, Venture Bros, Invader Zim and Frankenhole.
How could you not put Invader Zim on the list.

He's right; hell I've managed to watch Family Guy and Futurama ad nauseum when they were on Adult Swim when I was a kid and I somewhat got sick of seeing the same stuff over and over again (maybe the ability to withstand stuff depends on the type of person you are.) Granted with time the episodes do seem new and enjoyable again but he does have a point; I still manage to remember alot of what I watched even though it's been a long time.
