Rate and Review: "Moe Goes From Rags to Riches" (PABF05)

Swartzwelder is hardly the god-like figure he is made out to be. I will admit he has written some hilarious episodes, and that he can be a great comedy writer. But his scripts, absurd as they can be, need to be handled right. When handled right, you could get something like "Rosebud". When not, you could get something like "Kill the Alligator and Run". Whilst I'm sure he'd inject some sorely needed humour in to the show, I'm not confident the current staff would manage his scripts well.

I do like Swartzwelder but he's hardly a saviour.

...but it would be interesting to have him ont he show again.

I know that but he's a WAY better writer than these schmucks we have nowadays.And I know that without good handling the episodes wouldnt be up to his potential but they still would be pretty funny at the least.
One dream I have is Matt Groening,Sam Simon and James L Brooks being the showrunners again.
I Hope atleast the final season is(but that is just wishful thinking)!

I could shit a better plot than this did.

This episode could've had potential if it had been about Moe's life. Maybe about what inspired him to become a bartender and build Moe's Tavern, and through the years, we see how the friendship between him and Homer began, which would explore the theme of Moe's friendship.

Still not as bad as Greatest Story Ever D'ohed but a close contender.

I pray that when this comes out on DVD/Blu Ray/whatever that the detractors of this mess don't buy the writer's excuse in the commentary this was an 'experimental' episode and suddenly change their grades claiming how wrong they were to bad mouth it.

It was oddly enjoyable.. a fun knock at Pixar movies as well... I laughed a lot.. sorry guys, but it's true.

It's a 3.5 rounded up to a 4/5 for the polls.

I thought this episode was pretty good. It had a simple plot, but it was still entertaining and funny. I'm usually a fan of format bender episodes, so that's why I enjoyed it. It had a nice flow too. 4/5

Upon a rewatch, I saw one of the sickest jokes in the entire series.

When the story got to the Civil War, it showed Southern Homer eating some rag soup. As if that wasn't bad enough, he said it needed "flavor", so he snips a boil....from his FOOT!

Yuck.

This episode was way too zany and felt like something Family Guy would do. But it has some funny jokes and I like the Bart/Milhouse plot so 3/5.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I saw it on television a few months ago, and turned it off after the first act.

Why did I give this episode a 3/5!? Not only was this episode so zany that it'll probably make Family Guy blush, it was BORING!! When I rewatched this episode, I found myself almost falling asleep and it was 4:00 in the afternoon! The fact that a rag is the only thing I really remember about this episode is sad. The jokes were stupid (I think there was only one joke I chuckled at when I rewatched it) and while Bart's subplot was alright, it has been done to death. You can replace Bart and Milhouse with any other characters and the outcome will be the same.
