So S2 is where they started showing signs of mature biting humor. It wouldnt be till season 3 where its full blast. Best Eps here are "Three Men and A Comic Book", "Bart The Daredevil" and "Simpsons & Delilah". Super strong showing no doubt, although the next 2 seasons were even stronger imo.

season 2 deserves whatever love it gets. the pacing might not be as snappy as season 3 and onward, but the focused & usually grounded storylines more than make up for it. 'blood feud', 'bart the daredevil', and 'homer vs. lisa....' are my top 3 from that season...

Severely underrated in some circles, season 2 is firmly prime Simpsons with biting, witty humour, lovable characters, and great stories.

Somewhat related to that "which episode would you use to show off the show" I think season 2 is the season you would show a person who was new to the show. The one thing it lacks in terms of the other classic era seasons is the wackier humor introduced in the 3rd/4th seasons. But what it doesn't have in wackiness it more than makes up for in satire, character and sentiment. Plus it's unbelievably consistent the only low points of the season for me are Bart's Dog Gets n F and Dancin Homer while it boasts the most A/A+ grades out of any season for me. I'm not exactly sure what turns people off from season 2(or the fact it's not considered the best or second best by everyone). Is it just that the episodes are a little slow and lack "snappy pacing"? They focus too much on character and emotion rather than gagfests and overt wackiness(preferring Mirkin's seasons)? Not having wackiness and fast pace every episode is what makes this season so timeless. They never bore you unless you're 12 years old and can't handle characters having any depth or exploring the intricacies of every character because you can get bored watching episodes where Homer gets a new job but you never or at least I don't get bored watching season 2 episodes because there is so much involved in every episode. I mean yeah I'll flip on an episode like Homer the Great if I want to just laugh but I do feel(as pretentious as it sounds) the show is capable of much more than just making you laugh. It's about the satire of everyday life in America, a satire on relationships that every member in the family share with each other(dad/Daughter, husband/wife etc) and while doing this entertaining us with relatable plot lines, smart humor and dynamic characters. Season 2 just showcases all the abilities I love in the show so well. Not to mention the wide variety of film/cultural references that reward viewers who pay attention to other aspects of life whether it be films, other shows, books or politics(just the tipping points of shit season 2 covers). That is it for now I guess.

As many have said Season 2 is criminally underrated. The character development is particulary strong and there are many emotional yet basic stories eg. actually caring about doing well in school, life and death, giving back to the community, being yourself etc.

Like others have said this is such a great, underrated season, with so many classic episodes yet people rather focus on Season 3 or 4 being the start of the 'Golden Era' yet I still love a lot of Season 2. Overall I probably like Season 1 a little better and Seasons 3-9 but nevertheless it's still a fantastic season in my eyes.

On the whole I give it a well deserved B+, a truly classic and timeless season, heartwarming stories, great characterization and storylines and has lots of humor, sure the animation was a bit off at the time but anyone who will judge a season based solely on the quality of it's animation is rather vain and frankly an idiot.
