Some good episodes, but a bit boring overall.
Don't want to rate all of them, just giving a short opinion.
There were some really, really nice episodes though - namely Itchy and Scratchy and Marge, Three Men and a Comic Book, Homer vs Lisa and the Eighth Commandment, and the episode where Homer and Marge discuss their past with the kids (the humour in there is far removed from other episodes, that's why I liked it, plus the story was incredibly engaging). The rest either had stupid storylines or weren't funny at all.

Oh you're criticising other ratings, didn't you have a go at me for that?

Anyway, I LOVE season 2, by far the most under rated season of the show. A- is the very least it deserves.

I'm not even going to discuss the thing of "unfunny" because it would be just putting examples of jokes I laughed at and you would say "this is not funny", but the fact you say it is "uninteresting" when it deals with the more than probable death of a main character is something that I really can't explain in any way.

Hmm, Murphy, did I ask Rusty to change his rating? No. Did I ask him for an explanation? No. Did I tell him his criterion was awful? No. I just expressed my surprise towards something I have never seen in years of boarding. Of course I disagree, in the same way I disagree about having the highest rating to episodes like Homer Vs Lisa Vs The Eight Commandment, Principal Charming or Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? (one of the most overrated episodes in classic Simpsons history? Could be, could be. I like it a lot because of the storytelling, but it's comedic values were pretty subpar, at least as I remembered, there are much better balanced episodes in the season), but this case was surprising for me because it was the first time I saw somebody focus so much hate in that episode, heck, even people like stu (formerly TheForbiddenDonut) who have always criticized it never went beyond the level of enjoyable mediocrity. Notice how I haven't talked about his grades to Dancin' Homer and Bart's Dog Gets An F (episodes which usually get worse critics than the average of the season, and I think the second one is underappreciated and at least in the level of the three above mentioned).

I will put my list later, I'll need some time to reconsider some grades and such. So far, I can say my favorites of the season are One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish (), Itchy & Scratchy & Marge, Lisa's Substitute, Blood Feud and Old Money (which I think were all in my top50).

    7. Bart Vs. Thanksgiving C+
    8. Bart the Daredevil B+
    9. Itchy & Scratchy & Marge A
    10. Bart Gets Hit by a Car B
    11. One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Bluefish A+
    12. The Way We Was A+

Why do so many people dislike Principal Charming? I think it's one of the best of the season.

I'm trying to be more generous with my ratings.

    1. Bart Gets an "F" A-
    2. Simpson and Delilah A-
    3. Treehouse of Horror B
    4. Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish B+/A-
    5. Dancin' Homer around C+ but not sure
    6. Dead Putting Society B/B+
    7. Bart Vs. Thanksgiving A-
    8. Bart the Daredevil B+
    9. Itchy & Scratchy & Marge A+
    10. Bart Gets Hit by a Car B
    11. One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Bluefish B+/A-
    12. The Way We Was A
    13. Homer VS. Lisa and the Eight Commandment A+
    14. Principal Charming A-
    15. Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? B+
    16. Bart's Dog gets an "F" B
    17. Old Money B+/A-
    18. Brush with Greatness A
    19. Lisa's Substitute A+
    20. The War of the Simpsons B+
    21. Three Men and a Comic Book B+/A-
    22. Blood Feud A

By far the most underrated season, which is often unjustly criticised for being "boring". There are some forgettable episodes, but the characters and stories were of an incredibly high standard and the episodes are actually pretty funny, if not as much so as the later seasons. 3rd best season for me.

Financial Panther, I'm not criticising and it's not my favourite episode of the classic period either but what do you, I presume, hate and find F worthy about 'Homer vs Lisa and the 8th Commandment'?

I know that I'm going to get jumped all over for this, but here's my explanation nonetheless:

I don't think it's like Lisa to be concerned about her family going to hell. She is much smarter than that, and I don't think it's good character for her to act like that. It's also hard for me to enjoy because it ages worse than nearly any other episode. Cable is pretty much gone, and the idea of it being new and amazing is just really hard for me to understand.

    Yes, yes, commence the beatings...

I'm not going to go too deep in to it because I know you've probably heard it a million times, so I'll just raise some brief points. Firstly, about it being dated, well, the episode isn't about cable. Cable plays a part but really it's just a vehicle for broader satire on theft and the morality of it. It seems a bit short sighted to call it dated when it's not really the cable Lisa is bothered about, it's the fact that it's stolen.

And I don't even understand your first point, well, I do, I'm just surprised anyone would make that kind of complaint. Are you calling Lisa stupid because she's religious? Or has a shred of morality? I'm not religious but I can certainly empathise with her position. Sorry but that argument makes next to no sense for me. You're either criticising Lisa for being religious or you're criticising her for caring for her family...

Sorry Panther, had to say it

The death storyline is probably what gets me. Homer clearly isn't going to die. And while the majority of the storyline is him living his final day and bonding with his father which is heartwarming it still isn't that... interesting I guess would be the best word.

Of course we know he isn't going to die. But we don't know how will he get saved, and in the end of the day we still don't know how. It was just luck. And the plotline is preparing you for the event, it doesn't show you any alternative; maybe what I like the most about it is not only the shock factor of the probable death of Homer but the acceptation he and Marge go through the episode. It's like there is some accumulated tension there and the episode displays it masterfully. What matters here is more the character reactions towards the fate than the fate itself. So we know Homer is safe, but Homer and Marge believe the contrary, and they build their last hours around that. This is why I find this episode so emotionally compelling. Not to mention that the last act with the fake death is one of the most impressive scenes in the whole series. I actually got to believe something had finally happened there.

Take into account also that this was made during the second season, when the characters were still fairly new to the audience, so I guess at the time people couldn't realize as well as you that the whole death thing was going to be fake.

I agree, One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Bluefish is a fantastic episode and is very emotional.

When I recently rewatched all of Season 2 episode by episode, I was suprised at how brilliant the season was. Very consistent and only marginally worse than the rest of the classic seasons bar perhaps the Mirkin ones. I also like Bart Gets an F.

Dragging the thread off topic, are you saying the Mirkin series are better or worse than the rest of the golden era? I'd hate to have to disagree with the other big ZS hater on here

I'm saying Mirkin's seasons are better. What I meant was only the Mirkin seasons are "a clear step up" from Season 2, whereas Seasons 3, 4, 7 and 8 are just marginally better.

oh I agree. 5 and 6 are my favourite seasons of the show but seem to be among the least popular of the classic run on here which baffles me personally
