I'm an in between Tool fan. Not a major fan but I did see them in concert a couple of years ago and have a few of their albums. Danny Carey is a tremendous drummer!

I hope it's cool but I thought I'd share something that isn't my typical rock post. There's this one song that's drawn my attention lately, doesn't this guy sort of sound like Sting?
I heard this guy is a HUGE star over in Australia and other countries overseas, is this true?
I've definitely seen the name a couple of places that slip my memory, though I can't say that I know anyone who has mentioned him
He does sound like Sting but I can't say I've ever heard of him.
As a bit of a departure from my typical posts (well sort of) I actually went to a musical called Rock Of Ages. It's a story of the LA strip being taken over by German Entrepreneurs set to classic rock from the 80's. It was an AMAZING show (and I'm not one for musicals). A few samples:
Some of my favourite albums:
Camel - Rajaz
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God
Morbid Angel - Domination
Led Zeppelin - Mothership
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
I could go on forever...
Guns don't kill people. Physics kill people!
I'm mostly into classic rock and metal. Bands like Queen, AC/DC, and Deep Purple in particular are some of my favorite artists. There aren't many "modern" rock bands I like, but groups like Matt Mays + El Torpedo and Tin Star Orphans are awesome. My metal tastes are pretty entry-level, but I find obscure bands like Iron Fire and Omen fantastic.
Hey Bert
Try some of the newer metal bands in this thread, most of us have our foundation in the classics so we generally try to find quality rock.
In other news, I'm purchasing an acoustic guitar and really looking forward to learning how to play it. I've been scratching the surface of more blues-orientated material for a while now and it looks satisfying to play (for me, anyway) but I want to expand my knowledge of music itself and have a good time along with it... has anyone on here who plays got any recommendations on some learner-friendly songs, regardless of genre?

Don't quote me on this but I thought I heard that Dredg was making a comeback....

I thought their last album was a dud (Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy, 2011.) I haven't purchased it yet but that's the word on the street.
I play the electric guitar, but I also have an acoustic for those moments when I don't wanna hook up my electric guitar.
Anyway, when I started i played a lot of Angela by Jarvis Cocker. This song has a really easy riff throughout the song. Definately check that one out. And ofcourse Smoke on the Water by The Doors. The main riff is basically all the same two note chords between the third and seventh fret. It's really good for practicing hand placement. When you can play this riff on full speed, it sounds really cool on an acoustic guitar.
Tool is my absolute favorite band. I have been obsessed with them lately, especially their song Vicarious. I think they are the smartest band, both lyrically and instumentally.Anyone else a major or minor Tool fan? One of the greatest alternative metal bands I must say
I'll let the vids speak for themselves:
RIP Adam "MCA" Yauch
rat cage records!
sorry for double post but this opening is epic
I'm a huge fan of Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart, who you should all check out! I'm going to see Lauren with Sugarland this coming June. I saw her last summer and it was awesome, so I can't wait to see her again! I'm also going to buy Haley's album this month, which I know will be awesome!
Y'all should buy both of their albums BTW cause I said so! :P
(Released May 22)
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Everything happens for a reason.
Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.
Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.
I'm not one for country music but Lauren Alaina's "Georgia Peaches" isn't too bad of a song!
Little late to the Adam Yauch tribute, but:

Just scored 6th row floor tickets to see Rush! I can't wait for Sept. 28!
Joined the fan club @ rush.com and got in on the fan club presale which started for Saskatoon and a few other cities today. More venues were announced previously such as Chicago and Detroit (your neck of the woods). The presales for those venues are closed since they only last 3 days but tickets for the genral public are still available. Sorry, no Milwaukee date.

Not bad, a pretty catchy song.
Something on the opposite end of the spectrum (inspired by my recent purchase):
Anyone here heard of The Tragically Hip? Great Canadian band that doesn't get a lot of recognition in the US. Here's my favourite song by them:
The Tragically Hip are a funny band for me. Some of their stuff is great (Little Bones, Courage, Bobcaygeon, Nautical Disaster) while others are clunkers (Poets, In View, Vaccination Scar.) The good does outweigh the bad however and it's too bad they didn't break through after their SNL appearance in '93.
PS: Good call on Grace Too, haven't heard that one in ages (as with most of your 90's Canadian music video posts, keep 'em coming!)
