Yeah, if you can get past the harsh vocals which some can't. Mikael Alkerfeldt is one of the best vocalists going right now. Plus the majority of their songs are 8 minutes+ which also doesn't seem to be too popular around these parts...

Top 10 guitarists (in no particular order):

Stevie Ray Vaughan
Carlos Santana
Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)
Eddie Van Halen
Lenny Kravitz
Alex Lifeson (Rush)
James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins)
Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits)
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
There's definitely others that I like a lot, but these are my favourites.
Favourite/least favourite by seasons that I own (somewhat stolen from Financial Panther):
3 - Dog of Death/When Flanders Failed 4 - Lisa's First Word/So it's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show 5 - Secrets of a Successful Marriage/Bart's Inner Child 6 - And Maggie Makes Three/Another Simpsons Clip Show 7 - Marge Be Not Proud/Bart the Fink 8 - Homer's Phobia/The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase 9 - King of the Hill/Trash of the Titans 10 - Wild Barts Can't Be Broken/Maximum Homerdrive
Lerxst is seriously underrated. I think he's definetly in my top 20. There's a rumour floating around that Rush will be coming to my neck of the woods in September for the first time in 34 years! Finally Rush has decided to come back to the black hole of Canada when it comes to concerts.
EDIT: Official tour annoucement tomorrow!

It's great to see RUSH get some modern day love!
Rush has been getting a lot of love over the last few years (well more so than usual) with the Colbert Report appearance , I Love You Man movie, Beyond The Lighted Stage(a fantastic Rush documentary) etc.
Still no Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame although as the years have passed I've cared less and less if they ever do get in.
My favourite band: Opeth
Great to see that people actually like this band.
Guns don't kill people. Physics kill people!
Most music forums I visit they are almost the be all end all. Any particular song/album preferences?
IMO it's hard to choose a particular favourite album, Blackwater Park, My Arms, Your Hearse and Ghost Reveries are all excellent. As for songs, Black Rose Immortal, A Fair Judgment, The Moor and Under The Weeping Moon are standouts.

Yes, I heard about his cancer yesterday. RIP.
I think Lifeson often gets overlooked because he's in a band with a great vocalist (Geddy Lee) and one of the greatest drummers of all time (Neil Peart). It's a shame, though, because I think his guitar playing is excellent.
record store day 2012 is tomorrow, kids
pay off your credit cards now
edit: also, levon's passing is indeed a tragic affair. watched the last waltz last night in memory.![]()
I watched it the other night too. One of the best concert documentaries of all time. I can't believe 3/5 of The Band are no longer with us.![]()
there was a line backed right up out of the store, but i successfully picked up destroyer's rubies on 'ruby red' vinyl and leonard cohen's live in frederiction ep
record store day '12 a complete success

I popped in a couple System of a Down cds into my cd player the other day, I forgot how much I liked them! Those guys were pretty good!
'chop suey' is such a jam
why have you forsaken me
Automatic for the People is an excellent album, but Out of Time creates a different atmosphere.
I guess it's just personal preference. By no means is Out of Time a bad album for me, but Automatic has Everybody Hurts, Nightswimming, Drive, Try Not to Breathe... a lot of my favourite R.E.M. songs.

My favorite song off of the Nirvana Unplugged in New York album is "Lake of Fire". Although it's a cover song, Kurt sings the song so well!
what'd you get?
didn't even remember about record store day but picked up some Eddie Kendricks and The Gap Band recently.

I personally have a history with depression, and I always found music so healing
