They have to. I am not sure if it is a law or just the policy of all networks, but if you hear a made up website name on a TV show, it will ALWAYS be owned by that network, or the creators of the show itself. It is kinda like the 555 phone number thing. They don't want writers to make up a funny sounding name only to find that someone else has it...or worse, have some viewer quickly register that name and use it to host animal porn and pro-Hitler blogs.

Usually, though, The Simpsons are a little more creative and actually make a fake website to go along with it. So I am surprised there isn't an unripe melons.com site showing actual unripe fruit or something, and then linking back to their official site. They did that with springfieldisforloversofgaymarriage.com.

If it isn't a law, then I know at least NBC and CBS also has that policy. The Office has done it a few times. I would guess that Disney wouldn't take any chances with ABC as well, but I don't watch anything on that channel so I don't know for sure.

We...don't really have anything to do with the number of views a thread gets. It's not really worth our time to go around changing those numbers even if we could.

The views mostly come from web crawlers and search engines. This topic used a web domain name in the title (and a reference to the FOX company) which is bound to get a lot of hits in random Google/Yahoo/Bing searches.
