This is crazy, last year we got the information in early June! What's going on?! It's obviously another Christmas release. August is impossible. Maybe the UK will get it earlier again?! Yay!

  8. #218

i'll wait to get this for christmas. no way i'm paying top dollar for this bad season.

This could be a good marketing move considering now that we're creeping into the later seasons, most casual and hardcore fans are aware of the declining quality (whether you agree with it or not), so if you release it during the holidays, more people will get them as gifts from relatives or loved ones who don't really know better. People will just see the brand new simpsons dvd on display and will go "ah so-and-so is a big fan of that show". I mean obviously there are going to be people who genuinely like the particular season, as well as the inevitable collectors and completists, but I think it's safe to say that as time goes by with these new seasons, they're not going to be as successful to sell as their predecessors, even if that's just by a gradual decline. I could be wrong because I don't know how the sales did in comparison of the august and december releases, but it definitely seems to make sense.

Maybe given the "Tis the 15th Season" addition, it'll be a holiday themed package and they'll tie it into the December release? Last release was Halloween themed, and Christmas episodes are also very important to the series.

I definitely think that's a high possibility. I'd prefer the theme I thought up 6 months ago, but Christmas could certainly make for interesting possibilities too.

If it's Christmas-themed, how about it depicting Springfield Mall during Christmas time?

It is on page 1 of this thread, I wrote it back in November. But here:

    Here's some random predictions:

Cover: Mr Burns(finally) with a greenish background similar to the green glow seen in the power plant.

    Theme: Nuclear Power Plant

    Disc 1:
    Treehouse of Horror XIV
    My Mother the Carjacker
    The President Wore Pearls
    The Regina Monologues
    The Fat and the Furriest

The menu art is at the power plant parking lot with people trying to get inside two large doors guarded by Mr. Burns and some goons. People line up in this order: Professor Frink, Mona Simpson, Lisa, Sir Ian McKellen, and Homer. Frink is wearing his tux and Nobel Prize from Frinkenstein. He is not allowed entry and instead must chase down his father who runs outside the plant doors holding Lenny or Carl for their organs. Mr. Burns laughs. Mona is in disguise with some sunglasses/a coat and is stopped and arrested after signing a sheet held out by Burns with a false name. Lisa is in her outfit from The President Wore Pearls and after initially being sent away gains access with help from Michael Moore. Sir Ian McKellen is immediately struck by lightning and dragged away by some goons. Homer, in his bear fighting outfit, is scared by that white bear which is wheeled outside the doors by Smithers. Rather than run away he tackles the beast and slams through the doorway. Once all animations are watched Burns is left standing by the open doorway alone until an option is chosen.

    Disc 2:
    Today I Am a Clown
    'Tis the Fifteenth Season
    Marge vs....
    I, D'oh-bot
    Diatribe of a Mad Housewife
    Margical History Tour

The menu art is that one room from 'Tis the Fifteenth Season where Homer gives Lenny the certs and Burns gives the baseball card. People there are Mr. T, Homer in Christmas gear, Mr. Burns, Marge, and Lenny Carl and Lisa dressed as Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea. Homer gives Lenny the same pack of certs while holding his astrolab, Burns gives the baseball card to Homer. Marge is holding one of her picket signs while Mr. T struggles with the vending machine.

    Disc 3:
    Milhouse Doesn't Live Here Anymore
    Smart and Smarter
The Ziff Who Came to Dinner
    Co-Dependent's Day
    The Wandering Juvie
    My Big Fat Geek Wedding

Menu art takes place in the power plant cafeteria. Everyone is standing in a line to get food in this order: Milhouse with his weird gear on from Milhouse Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Bart dressed in prison orange with Gina from The Wandering Juvie, Randall Curtis, Homer with a bible, and Edna, Seymour, and Comic Book Guy with the last two in costume. Milhouse gets his food and runs off while Bart tries to chase after him but is stopped by Gina. They get their food and exit the line. Randall Curtis tries to get his food but is tossed through a window by Homer once he drinks from his bible. Edna then watches as Seymour and Comic Book Guy fight over her which repeats if an option hasn't been picked yet..

    Disc 4:
    Catch 'Em If You Can
    Simple Simpson
    The Way We Weren't
    Bart-Mangled Banner
    Fraudcast News

Menu art is in Burns' office and people are lined up in front of his desk with different goals in mind. First is Grampa in his beach attire from Catch 'Em If You Can who curls up his feet like the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz only to fall down a trap door. Homer, dressed as Pie Man, hits Burns in the face with a pie and runs off but gets tired and falls asleep on a couch in the office. Lisa, holding a note, laughs when Burns is hit with the pie. Bart is next and moons Mr. Burns after he wipes the pie from his face and also falls via trap door. Finally Lisa gives Burns the note and Burns releases several ponies to tempt her. When she refuses they turn on her and chase her out of his office. When all these are done Homer snoring while Burns looks on from his chair repeats over and over.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Didn't they give out copies of season 14 at the last SDCC?

  24. #234

Do you think the nineteenth season DVD commentaries will have a lot of reminicing of the writers strike in 2008?

Don't mean to talk about a future DVD, but I just had to ask.

Maybe but that's kinda a random question. I hope Mark Kirkland is on most of the commentaries for Season 18 and 19 since he was the Supervising Director for those years and I find him enjoyable to listen to. David Silverman was on over half of Season 14 and he wasn't even Supervising Director that year.(It was still Jim Reardon, but Silverman returned for Seasons 15 - 17. After which he went on to direct the film and left Kirkland short-handed for Season 18. I'd be interested in hearing from Kirkland about the challenges he had keeping the show going while several of the animators worked on the movie.)

EDIT: I THINK Silverman was SD for Season 15 I'm not totally sure. I know he was for 16 and 17 though.

All that's years away yet though of course.

@Captain Pistachio I don't recall if they gave any away. I know we didn't get artwork until someone from England posted it here in October. I would think if they gave some away earlier than that the artwork would've leaked much earlier.

I wonder if Mike Scully will participate in any of the Season 15 commentaries. I really hope David Mirkin and Mike Reiss do.

Mike Reiss, especially, for the "The Regina Monologues" episode, because that plot was his, and Al Jean's idea from the Golden Girls.

I doubt Mirkin will ever do another commentary. I was surprised Reiss was on Weekend At Burnsie's.

EDIT: Didn't know that about Regina Monologues. I don't care much for that episode but I'd be interested in hearing anything he might have to say.

  28. #238

Why won't Mirkin do another commentary?
