    The Simpsons Arcade (Konami) Thread

There wasn't a thread started about the infamous classic Simpsons Arcade game by Konami.
I thought I should go ahead and start a thread about it.

Talk about anything related to the arcade game.

P.S. I want this game on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network very badly!
    I'm just like Bart!
I'm Bart, who are you? by NoHomers.net
My favorite episodes: "Lisa's First Word" and "And Maggie Makes Three"
Why? Because Maggie is an awesome character, and you know it!

That´s sure a great game!! It would be fantastic to play fully remastered in HD!!!

There´s The Simpsons Arcade for iPhone, made by EA. It was clearly inspired by the classic from Konami.
It´s a fun game, but not a must have.

Went to California in the Summer, and at the Howard Johnson in Anaheim, right near Disney, they have it! I played it SOOO much! Favourite arcade game of all-time and I wish it would come to the UK. Or I might just not be looking hard enough.

I could've owned this game in mint condition in 1998 when a local arcade shut down. They had the 4 player version with no dings or scratches for $500, but I wouldn't be able to get it through the door of my house.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

I was looking at marge's sprites the other day and noticed she literally has rabbit ears (see attack 4)

the person who ripped the sprites just attributes it to konami being weird... but now we know, from the dvd commentaries, that it came directly from matt groening

You never would have known until you tried.
If it ever came to the point where it didn't fit, you could always remove any door frames and/or anything else obstructing the path, then reassemble it afterwards.

Ah yes, a reference to the "Life in Hell" comic books.

I see. Sorry for jumping the gun.
Either way, the 4 player version in mint condition is still pretty good for 500 big ones.

I love me some Simpsons arcade.

In high school, when traveling with an academic team, we stayed at a hotel that had the Simpsons arcade machine. So me and a couple friends each quartered-up like $5 or $10 and just plowed our way through the game, all the way to the finish. It's a pretty solid game all the way through and pretty fair for an arcade game designed to gobble up quarters. There weren't that many cheap one-hit-kill moments until you get to the final boss. There were also some weird characters that would show up, like that weird junkie guy boss in the Moe's Tavern stage (who never showed up on The Simpsons).

The first two or three levels are most memorable to me. After the graveyard level, I have trouble remembering some of the details.

Yeah, only the first two levels were the only ones memorable to me, even when played on MAME.

Geez, if I'd invested all the quarters I dumped into this machine when I was younger, I'd be a rich man today.

    Money well spent, I'd say!!

I also notice the "zapped" sprites...

Incredibly, this is still the best Simpsons video game after all these years. "The Simpsons Hit N' Run" comes the closest to matching its quality and obviously is much more sophisticated in terms of game play and technical details, but that game just gets infuriatingly repetitive and boring with its timed missions after awhile.

I still play the arcade game with the MAME PC emulator from time to time and it's such a blast to play the game without having to put in coins to continue. This way it's easy enough to pass in one sitting, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. I prefer easy enough to pass every time over hard in the most dull way, to the point when I just lose interest after awhile (as is the case with "The Simpsons Hit N' Run" and many of the other games).

I think the only real flaw in "The Simpsons Arcade Game" now is how outdated its characters are, and that's a very minor flaw. Since it was created so early in the run of the series, the game is full of generic made-up characters who never appeared on the series and is missing so many of the supporting characters who later came into prominence on the show. There are also weird details (again, most likely because the series lacked characters at the time) like Sideshow Bob showing up to help(!) with a power-up.

Aside from the excess generic characters and lack of memorable supporting characters, I think "The Simpsons Arcade Game" is still kinda perfect. I really don't mind that the game play is just that repetitive "Final Fight" formula over and over again...at least it's not repetitive in the annoying way that "The Simpsons Hit N' Run" gets. I'd like to see the characters updated in a new release of "The Simpsons Arcade Game", but otherwise it would be fine just as it was.

i have only played like 4-5 simpsons games, but this is easily the best out of them. i used a shit ton of tokens on this game, which sucked because i could have used them on other games at the arcade i was at, but i wanted to finish the game, which i eventually did. it was pretty fun for me to do. i would definitely love playing this game again.

I have never actually played this game, but it sounds like a great game, so if the XBLA port is real, then I'll be looking forward to that.

Ok guys, it's definitley having an XBLA release. No date has been given yet, but it's most likley to be soon as the achievements have just been released. For anyone interested, here they are:

    Mr. Sparkle
From stage 1, make it to the stage 3 bosses in Survival Mode with the Japanese ROM.

    Easier Than Arm Wrestling
Defeat the Wrestler without any player dying.

    Falling For Smithers
Playing from stage 1, fall through the deck after Smithers.

    It Tastes Like Burning
Hurt Smithers with one of his own bombs.

    Dysfunctional Family
Play in a 4-player match with three other people.

    Bongo's Angst
Playing from stage 1, get Bongo to appear in 4 different levels.

    Battling Seizure Robots
Playing from stage 1, defeat the battling robot.

    Helper Monkey
While performing a Team Attack, damage 25 enemies.

    Best Score Ever
Earn 250 points (US) or 25,000 points (Japan) in a game.

    Release The Hounds
Complete the game in 30 minutes or less.

Like Taking Candy From a Baby
Complete the game four times, once with each character.

    "Excellent"
Complete the game on Expert difficulty in individual Quarters mode.

I have never played this game, so I don't really understand all the achievements, but they seem pretty decent. I'll probably buy this because it's always great to see some more The Simpsons content on Xbox 360 (Where are gamerpics, FOX??). Backbone's other ports cost 400MSP (£4.25 = 500MSP).

I remember playing this at a local staking rink in Fountain Valley. No word if they've closed down or still have that arcade game up and running but if it is then I'm going to have to plan to go down there to both play "The Simpsons" and skate.

Or I could just play the XBLA port at home; I'd feel better playing the actual arcade version of the game.

It'll probably be 400MSP (like all other Backbone ports). It just so happens I have 350MSP, so that means I'll have to buy another 500MSP just because I'm 50MSP short Oh well, I don't really care because I'm bound to wanna buy something soon anyway.

Why in the hell do they get all the damn free stuff? Also, I'm running into problems with my account (it got hacked) and I might not be able to get this right away.

God I hope it's released to Regular Psn soon I haven't played this in a few years. Ther are only 2 places I know of that still had one of the original arcade machines, but that was at least 2 years ago at a round table in Santa Cruz California. I wonder if they still have them.

Glad it wasn't just a rumour.
Those ears creep me out though, just like the original concept of Homer and Krusty being the same person.
I wonder why they never did something with those ideas for a THOH.

Ok, strangely this is being released on Feb 3rd (Friday) rather than the usual Wednesday. It'll be priced at 800MSP which is double what I was expecting.

Just completed it. Anyone be up for co-op later?
