i'm just curious, but who do people say "Thanks for the new sig!"

i mean, i get changing your sig (i'd probably never change it to a post someone made though), but why 'thank' them for it? It's not like they're going to say "Oh, anytime!" or anything. why point out the fact that you're going to use a member's post as your new sig? Surely they'll eventually see it anyway.

not directed at Mozy; I've seen a lot of people do this. I've just been curious is all

guilty! I did this over at boards & rec once; second time I just took the sig and didn't mention anything about it. I get your point, it doesn't make sense to thank them for the new sig, especially when what you quote is going to appear in the sig anyway.

I see it as a way of letting the person know that you appreciate the comment, I suppose it makes them feel good!

As far as on forums, I often tell someone thank you or I appreciate something if it's something that isn't mine and I want to use it. Just an automatic habit I guess.
Jimbo Jones: [about Homer] I hear that guy's ass has it's own congressman!
Bart Simpson: I wash myself with a rag on a stick.
Homer Simpson: [takes cap out of dryer and puts it on his head] Mmmmm... I CAN feel three types of softness.
Lisa Simpson: [from upstairs] Dad, what are you doing down there?
Homer Simpson: Washing my fat guy's hat honey!

It's a natural reaction. When someone gives you something (intentionally or not) you have to thank them for their gesture, otherwise you look like a bit of an arse.

In Mozy's case, it was probably a sarcastic 'thank you' which is common on internet forums.

i just don't think the person cares either way, if you want to use a post as a sig or not.

if you like and appreciate the post, 'like' the post.

if you want to use it as a sig, just use it. that's what i'd do anyway.

like honestly my day's not going to be any better if i make a joke post, or a post in general, and someone comments "oh hey thanks for the new sig!"

I dunno, it's just something people do. I should know, because I've done it.

There's nothing sarcastic about my appreciation for that comment, it was frickin' hilarious. I'm not a cynical asshole and if I was, I certainly wouldn't sugarcoat it. I've never quoted someone in a sig before and saw others thank others so I did as well. Like I said above, I see it as a sign of appreciation.

isn't the fact that it's already your sig a sign of appreciation?

i never really wanted to have a full argument on this, it was just something i had been curious about.

It depends on whether a lot of work and effort was put into it, if it's just quoting something I said as your sig. I don't really care, but for example if it's a sig. that I designed and put a lot of work into and you ask me to make you one to have as your sig. and I didn't get a thank you or appreciation for it I would be a little bothered by that.

I was just walking by a TV with Family Guy on. I saw an ad on a bus:

    CBS
Why watch what everyone else is watching?

    it made me laugh.

    Nice editing Mozy.

I just figured it was pointless to having that picture up. Besides, I agree with you on that! I really like it here and don't want to get into trouble.

We don't really care terribly if someone posts a pic of boobs (in appropriately marked threads). But any nether regions on male or female is a different story.

Also we prefer that material be kept in Off Topic and not in The Simpsons sections because there's a lot of younger people there and we wouldn't want Simpsons staff to see it either.

Just heard that today is National Cleavage Day...had no idea that was even a thing but somehow it doesn't surprise me.
