I recall seeing this episode and finding the whole ending/emotional angle weak even at the time...it was sort of obvious that the characters and general writing style on Family Guy weren't really conducive to actual emotion, and it felt cheap and shallow. I also recall reading that Seth MacFarlane was initially against the idea, anyway.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

Like I said, he's not the voice of reason anymore... he's a pathetic douchebag.
I'm glad he's flawed too, but sometimes the writers push too hard what they feel via Brian...see the pot legalization episode . He's nowhere near as irritating as Lisa Simpson since like season 7 for example. I'm glad the writers made Brian an atheist instead of pussying out and making him a buddhist, by the way.

Also, I rewatched Road to Rhode Island...Stewie still had his early character but it was fun seeing him in an uncomfortable situation, and Brian was great...I guess I'm still feeling out the progression of this show.

Well him being against it would hardly surprise me. And the emotion isn't as strong as say classic Simpsons, but it worked well enough for me.

Cleveland Jr provides a laugh here and there, but other than that, I just sit totally stone-faced watching any of McFarlane's three shows. I give them a chance every time I hear they've gotten good or better, but I honestly laugh far more at current Simpsons; which I don't even think are "good".

The oldest season 1 episodes truthfully feel like a Simpsons-wannabe show. Now the show has its own style and tells everyone, "We are NOTHING like The Simpsons." While I tune in every week and every episode tends to appall me in some way (Stewie and Brian murdering a little girl's family, Stewie's evil clone slicing a woman in half, Peter violently barfing up blood), I have to give it props in that it's definitely more original today than in 1999.

you know, re: American Dad this past season... it seems more like regression toward the mean than anything. It was really on a somewhat even par with seasons 2 and 3, which makes me wonder if 4 and 5 were just anomalies. Not that it matters because even at it's current par it would still easily be my #4 on this list, but still.

Season 2 of American Dad was better though, you had that crazy George Cloony episode, Hayley still seemed to be around. I was really surprised watching some of them again how early on they were capable of producing some good episodes.

Tears of a Clooney was season 1, it was the finale. But besides that, seasons 2 and 3 have some really high highs, but both have more clunkers than 4 or 5. Plus, to be frank, any season that features episodes where Stan is a fundamentalist Christian or have "political satire" at the heart of the plot aren't really classic American Dad for me.

Beavis and Butt-Head! Just as funny as it's always been.
Next would be Futurama; something feels off with the show right now, but it's still pretty solid in general.
Then Bob's Burgers. This show's building up some momentum and was quite enjoyable during its first season.
Then South Park. Hit or miss generally, but still interesting and the last half of the recent season was very good.
Then American Dad and The Simpsons. AD is more consistent but can get to be too much, Simps is very inconsistent but is still able to do a good one here and there.

After that are shows I don't like or care about. Or haven't seen enough of.

The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy. All hit and miss but I'm enjoying the ride as it were.

    Bob's Burgers - Consistently good.
American Dad - Not as funny as it was but still generally a lot more enjoyable. The characters are also better than the other shows.
Beavis and Butthead - Quite funny and devoid of offensively bad bits.
Cleveland Show - Actually passable and more entertaining than Family Guy by a decent margin.

The rest sort of blend together.

I haven't seen Bob's Burgers yet but the S1-dvd will be released in the beginning of 2012, so I'm definitely gonna check out that series then as everybody hear seems enthusiastic about the show.

    Be wary though.

The first 2 or 3 episodes aren't up to the standards of the show. But boy, does it get better. I hope you enjoy it.

Bob's Burgers and Archer were like my two favourite shows this year. Really really solid.

The only problem is that the release-date gets postponed time and again.
For the moment it doesn't even have a release-date anymore.

I pretty much hate most modern cartoons, to be honest. They're all the same - 3/4ths of a plot wrapped around dirty jokes and bad artwork. If I had to choose, I'd choose Futurama. The CC seasons aren't that good, but at least they keep these problems to a minimum. Then Bob's Burgers.
    My Simpsons Season Rankings:
    6 > 8 > 7 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 1 > 9 > 15 > 13 > 14 > 10 > 16 > 12 > 11 > 22 > 21 > 17 > 24 > 19 > 20 > 23 > 18

    My Simpsons Season 24 Ratings:
    Moonshine River - B- Treehouse of Horror XXIII - C Adventures in Baby-Getting - B Gone Abie Gone - C+ Penny Wiseguys - D- A Tree Grows in Springfield - D+ The Day the Earth Stood Cool - B To Cur, with Love - B Homer Goes to Prep School - F A Test Before Trying - C+ Changing of the Guardian - B- Love is a Many-Splintered Thing - F Hardly Kirk-ing - C+ Gorgeous Grampa - D Black Eyed, Please - A- Dark Night Court - D What Animated Women Want - C Pulpit Friction - C- Whiskey Business - B- The Fabulous Faker Boy - C The Saga of Carl Carlson - C- Dangers on a Train - D-

Yeah I can add this to my list of faves now. Show hasn't missed a beat at all since it's been off-air. Uncanny.

Desperately missing new Venture Bros, Archer, and Bob's Burgers, though. American Dad is slowly declining but still enjoyable.

I also keep forgetting to catch new Futurama, but whenever I do, I love it.

I also keep forgetting to catch up on new Futurama. I'm like 3/4 of the way through the newest season. It's great though. Seems to have maintained most of the quality from pre-cancellation...

i just lost interest in futurama for some reason. i've barely seen any of the newer episodes (from this year), and i'm fine with that. I think the last episode i saw was the holiday spectacular. or maybe one or two from this year.

  25. #85

I saw the whole of season 6, and although I like the finale, I'm considering it my own personal series finale.

New Futurama is just not satisfying for me.

new Futurama is not up to par with the old ones, from what I've seen; the gap between old & new is smaller than the gap between old/new episodes of the Simpsons by far, but I dunno, it just doesn't sit well with me. From a distant memory the new Futurama has moments of new Simpsons-esque writing as well. I mean, "EyePhone", Zoidberg amputating people with Leela hopping around with half a body, the whole of Yo Leela Leela (or whatever it was called)...

However to be fair I have never been a massive Futurama fan. I certainly enjoy the show (much more than FG for example) but even the older ones are just "okay" most of the time. I just don't find it as funny as classic Simpsons, nor do I find the characters as interesting. I mean, aside from Bender, Leela and Fry, and maybe at a push Prof. Farnsworth, none of the other characters are really that interesting, funny or worth watching.

That said the show is still capable of producing classics. I love The Luck of The Fryrish. But I don't think it's as amazing as it's made out to be

-Beavis and Butthead is definitely the most consistent. I can flip on the new episode every week knowing it will be a riot.
    -Futurama
-The Life and Times of Tim
-Bob's Burgers was a fresh addition to Animation Domination. It has heart, unlike the MacFarlane shows and Allen Gregory.
