Now just what the hell is this: Toy Story 4

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...,5707357.story

Almost sounds like just a simple "I think they're working on it," when they very well may not be...but I think Pixar has sequel-itis. Cars 2, Monsters University...now this.

Better be a crock of shit. I do not ever want another Toy Story. Pixar, you've made one of the most perfect trilogies of films ever made. Don't go and fuck it up. The story ending with Andy going off to college and giving the toys away is so poignant the way it is. Another film would just be ... another film.

people were hestitant to accept toy story 3 at first too

who the fuck cares. your perfect little movies aren't going anywhere

BESIDES WHERE'S YOUR FAITH IN PIXAR?

The third one really felt like "the end," though. Like, just as much as Return of the Jedi or LOTR Return of the King or what have you. You could almost see the metaphorical curtain being lowered after the final frame.

Also, although I'm sure there's exceptions, going past a trilogy rarely works (when it even works for that far, that is), probably because three films makes each one a comfortable part of a three-act story structure. It doesn't really matter with Die Hard or whatever, but these actually have a continuing story.

But yeah, heaping bowl of salt being taken on this one. I think it came out a year ago that Tim Allen was contracted for another, but it seemed to be one of those "just in case" things where they sign up the actors for more work across a range of media, in the event any of those stipulations proves useful.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

i heard about this earlier today and i really hope it's not true. even if they do have a good enough plot, i'd like it just to be Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3. it's one of the best trilogies imo and i really do not want a 4th.

If this is true, I blame Bonnie's toys. Nothing like bringing in a new set of characters to make a studio think there's wasted potential.

For a lot of people, it seemed to die when they watched Cars 2.

So let's get this straight - first, Pixar announces a sequel to Cars and a prequel to Monsters Inc., then they throw Lauren MacMullan off of Brave, then they cancel Newt, and now they're "thinking about" a Toy Story 4. I'm now convinced that there has been some sort of bizarre voodoo ritual that has caused John Lasseter to become possessed with Michael Eisner's soul.

They threw someone else off Brave...which they've done before (Ratatouille). MacMullen was working on Newt before it got canned, apparently because it was too similar in story to Rango.

I thought Newt sounded really interesting, so needless to say, fuck you Johnny Depp.

Edit: Okay, never mind, it was "Rio" that Newt was too similar to. But Depp's still not off the hook. He knows why.

Brenda Chapman, director of Prince of Egypt was thrown off Brave. She wanted something much more serious while Pixar wanted it to be a tad lighter is what I've heard.

    is this even worth discussing?

it's probably just a couple pixar dudes shootin the shit and contemplating ideas. there's probably thousands of movie ideas at pixar that never make it pass this stage

people think "oh yeah we're thinking about maybe doing something" = "YEAH IT'S REAL AND ITS COMING TO THEATERS MAY 20TH 2014"

An Incredibles 2 would be a terrible idea. The Incredibles works just as a stand-alone film, I've felt.

I would COMPLETELY trust Pixar to make an amazing Incredibles 2, wouldn't you?

But I would not at all trust a Toy Story 4, and honestly the very notion of that makes me kind of sick

  21. #21

Incredibles might be better standalone, but yeah, I agree. I think it's one of their few movies that still has room to explore, and I would certainly trust Pixar. I think Bird has even said he's considered a sequel... it's just not looking likely right now with his live-action projects (Mission Impossible, 1906) seemingly taking precedent.

I do wonder where exactly they'd go with it since the first one was all about the family coming together and about overcoming conformity, and they're already full-fledged superheroes by the end of the movie (I don't remember if they were "out" to the public, though?). Still, the ending definitely leaves room for more, whereas I really don't know where they'd go with Toy Story other than "Oh no, now BONNIE is growing up, too!"

    I mean, it's a superhero genre.

Comic books have been going on for like 70 years telling more and more stories...there are just an infinite number of stories you could in that genre...easiest movie to make a sequel to, I think. Not just that, but easiest movie to make an awesome raising-the-stakes great sequel to.

I've wanted an Incredibles sequel forever. Toy Story 2 and 3 were amazing sequels, but when Cars 2 was announced I was like "are you kidding? Why Cars and not Incredibles?" And then when Monsters University was announced, I said the same thing even though I like Monsters Inc. I know The Incredibles 2 is up to Brad Bird, but I do really hope he eventually does one, maybe kind of in the same style as Toy Story 3 with the kids all grown up and in/going to college and the adults being too old for it anymore.

the only plot that I can think of for a Toy Story 4 would be trying to find Bo Peep or the rest of Andy's old toys but it would pretty much undo the sadness of the third

The little girl who gets the toy's house burns down taking more of the toys with it and leaving only a small group of the remainders to travel with her as her family moves from one shelter to the next and the toys meet other toys owned by orphaned or homeless little kids.

  28. #28

This cavalcade of sadness would of course inevitably lead to Toy Story 5, in which the toys are accidentally sent to China and/or third world countries and discover they were made by sad, despondent children.

Nuclear holocaust leaving all the toys on their own in a dystopian world with no owners to be found, and giant roaming toy eating insects.
