Al Jean really saved the show from the immature direction Mike Scully was taking it.

Anybody else troubled by Lisa's reaction to Homer's initial fart? Her vegetable of a father passes gas and she demeans him for it?

Thanks but there is nothing about The Ten-Per-Cent Solution ?

No, nothing for now. I just put it so nobody would think there's no new episode on that date.

I'm liking the description of Blue Flannel Pants. I've been curious about what that one would be about. Nice seeing two Homer at the plant episodes air so close together, with a third(Them, Robot) airing later on in the season.

God this season is going to be awful.

Because when you think 'Simpsons Halloween Episode', you think 'Lisa reading The Brothers Karamazov to Homer on the couch, whilst Homer farts in protest'.

The clip was painful, but no worse than I thought it would be. 'Blue Flannel Pants', could be decent. I'm interested in knowing what 'The Ten Percent Solution' is about. The title makes the episode seem really boring, but it's unfair to judge it yet, when the plot is unknown.

Blue Flannel Pants has a good story and is directed by Steven Dean Moore, so me too I expect a very good episode.
But I'm scared about the Christmas episode.

Eh it is still better than a few years ago(at least it seems like it) but fine I guess I'm wrong then whatever still like what I've read.

I'll say it for the(what seems like) fiftieth time, the Christmas episode is concerning to me, but J. Stewart Burns has a still basically strong track record for the show so I'm hopeful(more so than usual I guess) he comes through with another good episode.

Oh that wasn't directed at you. I was just saying that because there always seems to be people who like to drag out that criticism of him not being at the plant anymore, when actually he's been there alot more frequently since around season 21. It's one of the rare things the current show has managed to do that I'll tip my hat to. So yeah, I agree.

Not really Season 23 related, but David Silverman posted some old drawings via twitter from Treehouse of Horror XV and XVI(Sorry in advanced if this has been posted before)

Terrible, it's like they're trying to impersonate both Family Guy and South Park. I guess the "horror" part of it is when the people who still think farts are gross cringe at this.

    I know!

I hate how I'm bringing it up, buuut... they did a gag closer to that in Happy Tree Friends - as in, it was based on the original incident and everything.

Despite the fact that the Christmas ep seems to tread on hallowed ground, I have SOME confidence in J. Stewart Burns.
I have NO confidence in Jeff Westbrook's writing so I'm tempering my expectations accordingly.

I would put the upcoming string of episodes in the following order based on my expectations of potential quality:

    1) The Food Wife (Selman)
    2) The Book Job (Vebber)
    3) Holidays of Future Passed (Burns)
    4) The Ten-Per-Cent Solution (Potentially Someone Good)
    5) Replaceable You (Gillis)
    6) The Man in the Blue Flannel Pants (Westbrook)
    7) Treehouse of Horror XXII (Omine)

It would seem that "Politically Inept, with Homer Simpson" has been bumped to January.

You think way too much about individual writing credits. The credited writer does the first draft which is then rewritten endlessly by the entire staff. It's pointless to base your expectations for an episode on the writing credit to the extent that you do.

I wonder how long Joan Rivers was pissed after the show insulted her daughter?
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

You say that and yet there is a clear level of consistency in the quality of the end product. The other writers contribute gags and/or one-liners but if the head writer is good he/she will be capable of shooting down a lot of the bad ones (i.e. lame puns, list jokes, out-of-character reactions, etc.) Individual writing credits DO matter. They mattered back when Jon Vitti was turning out consistently top-tier prose and they matter now. If I was to base my expectations on plot summaries and preview bumpers, they'd be disastrously low every week.

Now that Castellaneta and Lacusta have been attached to 10% Solution (along with Joan Rivers) I'm inclined to drop it all the way down to 6th.

It would be kinda neat if the former lover was actually that princess character from Once Upon a Time in Springfield, but I assume they mean the Joan Rivers character. Episode sounds interesting, but never expected it to involve Krusty.

  29. #839

I bet Krusty's comeback show will just be an excuse to have a bunch of celebrity guests playing themselves. Ugh, Zombie Simpsons....
