With some episodes, it's probably closer to 2 percent. Those episodes are bad.
With other episodes, it's closer to 30 percent. Those episodes are good.

If a writer is ultimately so terrible at what he or she does that they need their episode gutted and torn apart by a team of over a dozen hacks every single time they helm an episode just to be watchable they're probably not that good at what they do. Do I think a Matt Selman episode is only 8 percent Selman and 92 percent everyone else? Not a chance.

Incidentally, those Castellaneta-LaCusta scripts are probably closer to 50-60 percent untouched because of how self-indulgent they end up being. It's not like they're going to tell the one guy who's getting paid hundreds of thousands per episode that the jokes he and his wife wrote don't work.

These writers aren't ALL terrible or ALL great. They're not the Borg hive mind. They have individual qualities that they bring to the table - some are good, some are bad. And it varies from episode to episode... even ones that they're credited as writing.

^ Interesting post, but unless you have some kind of information I guess we don't know for sure. But yes, it makes sense to me. It's pretty clear to me that some writers like Ian Maxtone Graham and Matt Selman, especially, have a much better track record than the other ones. That shouldn't happen if they were only contributing with 8% of the episode most of the time.

They're ripping off 'Rednecks and Broomsticks' after just three seasons? Man they must be desperate!

As the article said, she was once Married to Sam Simon. Also, she and Sam have been in numerous poker tournaments.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

Maybe they're ripping off Eternal Moonshine on the Simpson Mind instead. The new title has me baffled amyway.

It's a parody of the song title "Moon River," I think.

  9. #1779

That description is probably a small part since it says the episode is "Gone Abie Gone". There is a good chance that is the episode where Grampa disappears because the title fits.

Matt Warbuton is overrated anyway. That or i'm just too stubborn to forgive him for Three Gays of the Condo. I'll begrudgingly accept Selman has more good than bad though even if his bad includes That 90's Show

Beware My Cheating Bart - Another "Bart Gets a Girlfriend" episode. We sure are having too many of these. That needs to stop. Homer buying a treadmill to watch a Lost type show sounds misguided.

A Totally Fun Thing that Bart will Never do Again - Another vacation episode but this sounds like an all time low. These need to stop too.

The Spy who Learned Me - The plot involving Homer sounds too familiar while the Bart plot possible a send up on Super Size Me is also too familiar.

Lisa Goes Gaga - Sounds like nothing but a Lady Gaga vehicle.

Ned and Edna's Blend Agenda - A season finale that is a follow-up of last years season finale. That's Ridiculous.

All 5 of these episode sound terrible.

    --------------------------------------------

On a side note, we know on April 22nd that FOX will have that 25th anniversary special. I think it would be cool if they have animated segments of The Simpsons being interviewed. But if they did that we may have to endure the same with Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show.

Those episodes don't sound too bad...Though Homer's sub-plot in "Beware my cheating Bart" sounds stupid and "Lisa goes Gaga" sounds like it's gonna be more about Gaga than Lisa.

    Just be thankful

Thanks for all the plots Mr. Homer.

Beware My Cheating Bart : I think it will be not very good

A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again : It can be good!

The Spy Who Learned Me : The Bart en Nelson story looks awful...

    Lisa Goes Gaga :

Ned 'n' Edna's Blend Agenda : I'm looking forward to see more of the relationship between Ned and Edna.

I'm only NOT looking forward to the Gaga one, but none of these plots are spectacular on paper which isn't good. If Bart's master plan for the cruise ship doesn't involve taking it to Antarctica then I'd say they were wrong about that like when they said Maggie would go missing during Season 22 and it never happened. I'm most interested in seeing what they'll do with Ned and Edna though.

Beware My Cheating Bart - Typically not a fan of "Bart Gets a Girlfriend" episodes, but this one interests me. Mainly because Shauna is an established character. So no fear of a new little girl character voiced by an actress who sounds nothing like a little girl.

A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again - Could be great, probably will be okay but could be awful. It'll be refreshing to see a vacation episode that doesn't involve a country/state. The Simpsons are going to the ocean!

The Spy Who Learned Me - Excited for this one, mainly because it sounds down to earth. Both plots sound interesting, glad to see Nelson the Bully returning.

Lisa Goes Gaga - The one stinker of the group. Prove me wrong, Simpsons staff! But this one will probably suck.

Ned 'n' Edna's Blend Agenda - Looking forward to this one, because I like a bit of forward momentum in the series. Apu stopped with the Octuplets, Barney is a drunk again, but Ned and Edna have been the most interesting development in the series for a long while. Helps that Ned-liest Catch writer Jeff Westbrook is returning.

Yep, these final five episode ideas sound like fan fics. Hell, I had to use my awesome moderation powers to delete six Lady Ga Ga scripts in the fan fic section.

Are we sure that Ned 'n' Edna's Blend Agenda will be part of Season 23 because I've always understood that Lisa Goes Gaga would be the last episode to air in Season 23...

Beware My Cheating Bart : Sounds like this could be pretty bad. But hey, at least it's something that hasn't been done (lets give a little credit to the writers).

A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again : mmm, I suppose this could work if the writers put some effort into it.

The Spy Who Learned Me : Of what is left for the remainder of Season 23, this episodes summary interests me the most. Sounds like this episode could turn out to be very good...

Lisa Goes Gaga : Sounds downright terrible ! Just reading the small summary reminds me of what happened in Season 22 with Katy Perry.

Ned 'n' Edna's Blend Agenda : If this is really going to be Season 23's season finale, I'm hoping for the best...

Maybe there has been a change of decision for the schedule and someone at FOX thought Lady Gaga in the season finale was a bad idea because not everyone likes her.
