Question If "The Simpsons" were to cancel this season...

    What would the Finale be?

I think it should be an homage to all the greatest Series Finales that TV has to offer from "Seinfeld" to "Newhart" (I can see Tracy Ullmann wake-up with one of her star-actors from that show and she's talking about this city of Springfield where the people were yellow).

I think that the series finale should be rather emotional/depressing. Well, no matter how the episode is, I'd probably find it sad anyway...

Emotional, definitely. Not depressing, though. A few people here have already mentioned a normal ending where the last scene is the family on the couch watching tv. I agree with this. It should be obvious that it's the ending of the series, but not feel like it's "the end". It should still have the feeling that the family will continue their lives, just without the fans. I'm having a hard time putting this into words, so I hope you can understand what I'm posting.

And even though I would agree that the show has become incredibly mediocre these days, I still want a real, serious finale.

I would like to have Bart ask Homer about "The Mind", from the first short from "The Tracy Ullmann Show".

Now for MY TV Show, that I'm planning to make one day which is animated...I'm hoping to pull all the stops and use almost all the Season Finales from TV.

What I don't want to see is for it to "pull a St. Elsewhere" because a final scene of us discovering the whole series was the imagination of Ralph Wiggum won't cut the mustard.

i want it to have it all- humor, emotion, action, and a satisfying ending. as for plot, i don't really have any idea. i just want it to end in a way that justifies it being on so long.

one of my original wants was to have every single writer write it- writers who left, new writers, people who wrote only one episode of the show. but that would be quite impossible

Personally I wouldn't want a bunch of writers of writers to write the series finale because too many writers can often spoil the script. They should stick to no more than 4 writers.

I think it's a must that they have an hour long episode. AKA: a two part episode when shown in syndication.

you're right.... like the way they had WAYYYY too many friken writters for the SIMPSONS movie which evidently wasn't very good anyway.

This is why I am staying out of the thread that announces the demise of the show. I can't see why it would make anyone happy. No one is forcing you to watch it, so while it's reasonable to be sad that the show is ending, there is no reason to be happy when you didn't have to watch it in the first place. There are still many people who enjoy watching it, so I do think it's kinda selfish to pray for the show to end.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

    Everything happens for a reason.

Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

my original intention was to have every single writer. i even wrote down a list of all the writers. i don't remember how many there were, but definitely too many to write one episode. i also felt like it should be a 90 minute tv movie, something where maybe for once, the simpsons go on vacation, and love the place so much, that they decide not to come back to springfield. but now, i dunno

    Rule for the finale:

Lock Mike Scully out of the writers's room and make sure Al Jean is a supporting writer as Oakley and Weinstein are the executive producers.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

A terrible showrunner but tbf Scully is a good writer, he just didn't have the balls or energy to demand enough re-writes from his writers. John Swartzwelder for instance (still a great writer) should never be left to his own devices without supervision

i read somewhere that the last scene of the finale would supposedly be a slow zoom out from the simpson house to reveal that they live next to the eiffel tower which is probably the worst possible way to end the show short of bart finally consummating his incestuous lust for aunt patty

They reveal in final episode that the last 13 years of the show was only one big prank on us.

Final scene: The Simpson family drive out of town in a mack truck filled with cash

It's too late for me to really care anymore probably, but I always sort of liked the idea of the final scene just being the family sitting on the couch watching TV. Finish the show where it's always started.

A "final" Simpsons wouldn't make that much sense anyways. What's there to wrap up? Just do a normal episode but make sure to incorporate most of the characters and put in a few finale in-jokes.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

Bart tells the school secretary that him and Lisa are dead, causing Principal Skinner to celebrate and Ms. Pompous to mourn their passing while B&L are at home watching old TV shows from earlier episodes and eating nachos.

I always think of a finale for "The Simpsons" but I can never bring a plot together. I'd think that it should be emotional, cutting-ties, funny, and somewhat touching. The final scene should be something touching, such as the family walking down the street together/watching television on the couch/etc. If they end the show saying that it was all Ralph's imagination and/or God's I'd be pissed to the nth power because that.... I can't even explain it. That would be too horrible for words.

But let's stop talking about it ending that way. Writers read this forum!

They make a full-length version of [MG20] World War III, but it turns out that it was really WW III.

I know nobody is...and I hardly do watch the new ones anymore. The last one I saw was about Cheech and Chong and it was subpar. Admit it, you love this show and will defend it in every way. Why are you in this thread anyway and why did you thumb down my comment? I'm stating my opinion. I didn't tell everyone, "You should ALL be happy if it were to cancel this season!"

Because you said you would be happy if the show was over, and I can't see any reason to be happy, even if you hate the show. Please explain why you would be happy, rather than getting aggressive with me over simply saying that you don't have to watch it if you don't want to.

I thought you were gone from this thread, vanished. Apparently not. Well, it has overstayed it's welcome. They recycle old gags, they reuse old plots, they make up cringe-worthy gags, predictable Homer stuff, it needs to stop. It should be put to sleep like Old Yeller. Painfully. And by the people that housed it. 'Cause it's got rabies, man.

That's how I felt with the episode "Blame it on Lisa" where The Simpsons got a high phone bill and then The Simpsons go to a different country...wait that's almost similar to "Bart vs. Australia"...except there's an orphaned Carioca (Rio Native).

Sure it uses Brazil's love of soccer, the carnival, and the statue of Christ...but Riotour took this show seriously...Jose Eduardo Guinle should be upset with another Jose...Jose Carioca! Now, I like Jose Carioca and the like, but he's a caricature of Brazil...and yet...many Brazilians LOVE Jose Carioca...back to "The Simpsons"...the episode "Blame it on Lisa" was okay, but the plot was getting thin, and on the same season..."The Simpsons" claimed that they're the Wal-Mart of Television with this song in "Gump Roast"!...
