Meh, I would disagree with them, but it's their opinion and I'm not going to make a fuss over it. I've never really had anyone I know say this, though.

    3 - Dog of Death/When Flanders Failed 4 - Lisa's First Word/So it's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show 5 - Secrets of a Successful Marriage/Bart's Inner Child 6 - And Maggie Makes Three/Another Simpsons Clip Show 7 - Marge Be Not Proud/Bart the Fink 8 - Homer's Phobia/The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase 9 - King of the Hill/Trash of the Titans 10 - Wild Barts Can't Be Broken/Maximum Homerdrive

most of my friends do...i steer the conversation towards south park, which is something we can all agree on

my friends are too busy making fun of me for my musical tastes to make many comments on my tv viewing habits, however, so this rarely come up

Honestly, the only issue I really have with Family Guy is it's preachy political overtones, and how it often fails at making these situations funny(South Park does this too, but on the opposite side of the political spectrum, and somewhat more successfully). It really is ironic that American Dad, a show who's premise started out very political, focuses less on this and more on character development than FG does these days. But I'd still call myself a fan of the show, so whatever.

how are they opposite? They're both clearly in favor of the liberal side of the political spectrum

  5. #35

South Park isn't really opposite but it's not really liberal either. The political viewpoint would probably be best described as a libertarian one.

Also, re: dislikes when I said none of my friends give a rat's ass about The Simpsons: don't shoot the messenger, guys.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

  6. #36

If it's with the classic era, then I'd respectfully disagree or be like "meh". But, if it was with OFF today, then I would agree 100%.

Oh, and at least Family Guy isn't pretending to be something it's not.

well, the thing is they are different people... they are saying it most probably because they are impressed with the humorous style that family guy brings to them (subjective, i know). as much as simpsons are mainstream even right now, family guy is maybe even more and won't really fade away for awhile

so... can't really argue; even if it happens, it won't go anywehre because there are a lot of subjective factors involved on the preference, if anything

The poll answers to "When someone tells you Family Guy is better than The Simpsons" should've been:

    a. You punch them in the mouth, respectfully
    b. List off 152 Classic Era episodes where Family Guy "ripped them off"
    c. fart
    d. have a random flashback to 2006 when this exact conversation occurred

Whenever I hear someone say that I just tell them, "First off you can't compare the current Simpsons or current Family Guy cause they're both not great. However, the Simpsons in its prime is better than Family Guy in its prime because Simpsons episodes actually have plots and they aren't just random gags." I don't argue beyond that.

I don't watch Family guy, but when I do catch an episode I have a laugh. When I watch a new simpson episode I cringe. Therefore I respect anyones opinion who thinks family guy is better

To be fair family guy when it first started was genre bending at the time, now it's just crap. Same goes for the Simpsons to a certain extent. Simpsons in it's prime was still better than family guy in it's prime though.

I find that people my age rarely ever discuss The Simpsons or Family Guy as South Park and Futurama were much, much bigger when we were growing up. I feel like Family Guy is reserved for people 21 and younger at this point while the types who regularly quote The Simpsons are mostly 30-ish. I tend to agree that anybody seriously watching TV knows there are dozens of better shows than whatever FOX airs on Sundays.

France is too busy watching Asterix and The Adventures of Tintin

If they've only seen the show of the past few years, I wouldn't really blame them. If they're talking of the classic era, well, their loss.

I still like to watch Family Guy on ocasion but to I think somebody put it best on the internet when he said that Famil Guy has "One very funny joke for five jokes that are bland, offencive or will discust you". I guess my main problem with Famil Guy is the fact it's a very one-sided show. When South Park for example takes a satirical topic (even if they will take side themselves) they will make fun of both side of the argument. Family Guy position is "Our side is holly, your side are idiots" and I hate when a show those that.
I didn't like many direction hey went with most of the character (Stewie is not evil genius anymore, Brain is an asshole, Meg is a punching bag) but in a way they grow on me.

Over all I still like The Simpsons way more then I like Family Guy. I like the characters more, I like the animation more and I like the type of humor more.

To be exact France never did animated series base on Asterix. It had 8 animated movies and thre live action movies, but never animated series.

In the past, I would say they were crazy, but as of now I would say meh because I don't think either one is really any better than the other and of course it's their personal opinion they're entitled to just like I'm entitled to.
Jimbo Jones: [about Homer] I hear that guy's ass has it's own congressman!
Bart Simpson: I wash myself with a rag on a stick.
Homer Simpson: [takes cap out of dryer and puts it on his head] Mmmmm... I CAN feel three types of softness.
Lisa Simpson: [from upstairs] Dad, what are you doing down there?
Homer Simpson: Washing my fat guy's hat honey!

My girlfriend doesn't like The Simpsons, but when pressed on it I found she's only ever watched the newer episodes. Fortunately she doesn't like Family Guy either, but I still assume most Simpsons haters haven't watched the old show or are stupid

I did shout her down a shitload on why she doesn't like Simpsons though

I've never heard someone say this to me before.

But to be fair both are terrible now. So I don't care either way.

FG is pretty nonsensical, all the characters act the same, and are one dimensional, unfunny and generally act the same all the way through the poorly though out plotlines where the jokes aren't connected to the main plot, and if they are its usually toilet humour or some stupid pop-culture joke. I don't like FG, and if I did I would feel pretty guilt that I would even own up about it as a weakness of mine.

It's like Peter will act like 5 times worse than jerkass Homer, then apologise at the end, cue family hug and thats it. It's transparent and pointless as shit, it never goes anywhere, I really can't take it seriously. I think Futurama and even King of the Kill blend humour and emotion better than FG, which takes on the act by bashing them together like bricks instead.

I really can't think of anything clever FG does except Stewie is a pretty ok character, however he is a baby that talks in a strange, almost upper class english accent and it doesn't make sense. Basically anything the simpsons did from seasons 1-9 and 13-15 can beat FG, I get a few cheap laughs of it but FG mainly serves as a "this is something that is happening in the world", or "this is a tv show/ media event" and now we're going to do our own interpretation of it in a little joke and it will get 1 million views on youtube. Modern Simpsons might "rip" off FG but thats like the second dumbest kid in class copying off the stupidest kid, I don't really give a fuck. I see simularities but The Simpsons classic era hardly shares any common ground on FG, the one similary is they are animated families. Without the simpsons there would be no FG. And no South Park either, however SP is much more original and intelligent than FG, I would say classic South Park can get close to the simpsons, despite sharing a similar toilet humour/pop-culture satire obssesion of FG.
