Rate and Review Family Guy: "The Hand That Rocks The Wheelchair"

Probably the overally dark episode of family guy I can think off

While I think its very much worthy of discussion, it mostly left me with mix feeling

Meg plot started nice, but quickly turned awful as soon they decided that she would go the crazy stalker route, even themselves lampshade the fact they already did that plot before. Although I do appreciate that instead of going the comedy route like with Brian, they decided to try to have actual drama.

Thing is a lot of thing kinda kill whatever poignance they tried to have. Mainly that by the end of the episode status quo is back and its probably never going to be mention again.

Evil stewie route, well most of its just random violence, while the level is pretty astonishing, I thought they could have made something different. And for some reason I thought Brian raising no objection (in fact pretty much is the one that suggest him to do it) whatsoever to Stewie trying to be more evil, is kinda stupid.

I thought it was one of the worst episodes ever, honestly. The Meg plot was rehashed and uncomfortable, and Joe's characterization felt kind of off to me, especially when you think back to season 1's debut of the character. Some of his lines threw me off too, like when he said "that's gay" about Meg being dropped off early. I couldn't even tell what the motivation for having that line was. Evil Stewie just made for lots of random horrible violence, and zero laughs. The fight at the end was a waste of time, and especially ironic since they parodied the whole "I don't know which one to shoot" convention in the PREVIOUS episode. The Thriller final shot made me laugh, but that was about it.
    Signature.

Once again Family Guy manages to make me laugh and find enjoyment when OFF cannot.

Whoever did the poll for this did it the wrong way. Usually it goes from 5/5 to 1/5. Anyways this episode was pretty meh. Not the worst episode of the season and I did enjoy the Thriller ending. However when did Joe get so stupid??

Grade: C- and a 2/5 on the poll

    things i liked:

joe being crank called by peter (though you'd think joe would be smarter than that, or is that just me?)

    the ending

    herbert's appearance

both plots were ok but meg's was just sad by the end, and stewie's evil clone plot merely seemed like the only intent was to make it as violent as they could (but still keep it tv-14 of course). neither was that good, but it was somewhat entertaining. 3/5 or so

It was okay. I liked how they were meta-referencing how Stewie is not really evil anymore. I agree that it was annoying that Meg's story was rehashed and Joe seemed awkwardly out of character. Chris didn't appear at all, not that that brings the episode down or anything. The episode did feel pretty slow to me, and I'm pretty sure that the only cutaway this had was the meta-joke of Peter stealing Meg's cutaway. In fact, the last few episodes have had very few, if any, cutaways, and they have all had a slower pace. Its not bad, but I can't help but think they are slowing down the scenes to eat up the extra time the cutaways used to take up. Still better without them though.

As soon as both Stewies' clothes started ripping off I knew where they were going with it, but I liked the Thriller reference at the end.

I did hate the over the top graphic violence of Evil Stewie cutting off Brian's tail and then splitting a woman in half with a katana. Its not funny, interesting, or shocking. I don't think it needs to be shown.

For some reason the family guy staff often seem to think comedy violence should be gruesomely realistic and it really isn't, slicing someone with the katana could be funny, but seeing the detail on the organs just isn't and it really doesn't fit with the overall look of the show. Violence against Kool-Aid guy however is sort of funny though because it's so silly. I don't know why they make such odd choices with the way they show violence on this show.

^ Yeah exactly. South Park shows people getting cut in half and stuff all the time, but it works for them because its not detailed.

And then sometimes Family Guy goes for the extremely dark route like in Road to the North Pole, where Stewie and Brian end up brutally beating and/or murdering an innocent family, when it would have been so so SO much better had they just tied them up and threw them in a closet or something.

South Park shows people getting cut in half and stuff all the time, but it works for them because its not detailed.

Still not as bad as 1/3rd of an episode having everyone's eyes popped out, though.

I think that maybe because its a good way to pad time and by going for shock value it give something to talk about without having to think something funny

I dont really have anything new to add. I dont know not the worst episode not the best episode, it was just kinda there. However I did like the meta references about Stewie. on the poll a 2/5 I guess
