    season 10

One thing about season 10 is that it is a Hit-or-Miss season.

Some people call it a classic era season because although it could be the worst of the first ten seasons, it was much better than Season 11 which is often regarded as the worst season ever.

Some people call it a part of the modern era since it is preceived as the point where problems were beginning to show up production wise.

What is your viewpoint of season 10? To me, it is the final classic era season and could've been a perfect time to wrap up the series.

I think it's a good start to the Scully era that shows the wacky fun that will come up in the next two seasons. The only episodes I don't like are Lard of the Dance, Wild Barts Can't Be Broken and They Saved Lisa's Brain.

It's part of the classic era for me. I personally think that it's a great season, and very nostalgic for me. Lisa Gets an A, Viva Ned Flanders, Make Room for Lisa, Mom and Pop Art, The Old Man and the C Student. . . all great episodes IMO.

What crack are you guys smoking? Season 10 is even worse than 11! Well to be honest, it's very close, but I think both seasons were really bad. There were some episodes worth viewing, but overall they were pretty low in numbers on both seasons.

Episodes I don't like: Sunday Cruddy Sunday, Maximum Homerdrive, The Old Man and the 'C' Student and Monty Can't Buy Me Love. There are also a lot of episodes that I think are just very average, for example those that D'ohmer mentioned.

One thing that season 10 and 11 manages to do really well is take a 'wacky fun' plot and absolutely bore the audience to death with it. The classic era ended way before either of them came into existence.

s10's not classic in my books but it's merely 'alright'. i really enjoy: wizard of evergreen terrace, homer to the max (no idea why though), mayored to the mob, and wild barts can't be broken. but the season also has crap episodes like d'oh'in in the wind, make room for lisa, kidney trouble, just to name a few

No way that season 10 belongs to the classic era. Every other episode in that season is of the "Homer gets an new job and gets into wacky adventures" variety. In fact, i'm pretty sure it's the worst offender of all seasons when it comes to the number of episodes of that type. However, even though the season as a whole is certainly not golden age material, i will admit that one or two episodes from it could count as the very last episodes that would actually have felt at home in a golden age season. I'm thinking first and foremost of Bart the Mother here.

One redeeming feature of Bart the Mother is that it had Phil Hartman's final role. I will always miss him since when he died, it changed the courtroom drama scenes and we also got far fewer instructional films.

It's more inferior to season 9 than 9 is to season 8, I'll say. I don't think all the changes are bad, though, I quite enjoy titles like 'Mayored to the mob', 'Sunday, cruddy sunday', 'Maxixmum Homerdirve', 'Screaming yellow Honkers', and most of the holdovers. That said, the show had certainly gotten alot stupider, and would remain below standard until season 13.

    Seasons 1-9 - Classic era
    10-12 - Scully era
    13-16 - Silver age
    16.5 - Into the abyss
    17 - The shit abyss
    18-24 - Zombie Simpsons

Every episode in season 10 is mediocre or terrible, and the season is easily as bad as 11 and 12.

I agree that Season 10 is the best of the Scully era (excluding S9). Season 12 is a close second and S11 is just a disgrace to the show.

one of the worst of the Scully era, probably not as bad as Season 11 though. i find that this season is just full of mediocre episodes whereas 11 has some really terrible unwatchable ones. Mayored to the Mob is the best of S10, which is saying something in itself

Season 10 is very recognisably Scully, although there's a few crazy plots that work. Quite a mixed bag, generally. It's a definite decline in quality since S9, which wasn't too bad imo - there were still many classic era staff/writers present and the O&W holdovers were largely pretty good there.

Maximum Homerdrive was reasonable, considering later Scully efforts. Homer as a trucker was quite an amusing concept, although the subplot was uninspired and the last part of the episode was rather lazy. Much of the humour throughout S10 feels rushed and often quite childish, but once again, most episodes don't fall entirely flat. In comparison, most of S12 completely bores me.

Mainly uninspiring season held up by a few classic-era quality episodes such as 'Lisa Gets An A'.

Season 10 contains two strong episodes (THOH IX and Lisa Gets An A) and maybe a handful of others that are okay enough. The rest of the season padded with filler and material that is either mediocre or worse. Somehow, they managed to churn out episodes that were simultaneously annoying and boring. Moreover, it contains no less than nine episodes surrounding Homer on some crazy adventure or tangent. Given that Homer's character deteroriation was the first and most drastic to hit the series, and that season 10 showed absolutely no steps to fix any issues from season 9, this certainly didn't help matters.

When we consider the historical context, the show's state by season 10 represents a dramatic collapse from the way it was a mere two years before it. Immensely disappointing for the time, and not much better on its own terms. To see it included as a classic season makes me think that either the individual has a different set of priorities when watching the show or, in some cases, just wants a round number to define the series' prime (much like how on occasion I see people speak of the Simpsons' declining at the "millenium").

That's pretty much it. No one generally says: "The first 8" of something, or "The first Seven" of something, everything is done in safe, rounded numbers. And it's equally sad that Scully had to force is Homer fetish upon us...for 4 seasons.

To me season 10 was the beginning of the end...

I was a die hard fan of the simpsons in its day, and I remember at the time when Season 10 was shown for the first time on TV I started thinking the plots were getting too silly, and not that funny... though my friends still thought the simpsons were hilarious

I was happy enough with the episodes though, it wasn't until season 12-13 I gave up on watching altogether

Now recently started watching again since season 20

I disargee with Jakro,LionelHutz123,S.Bubbles,KangDos,Zartok-35,Jet,Nauru-1,Doggins,and Granto who's opinions nobody cares about or even him for that matter.

Season 10 deserve to be part of the classic era aswell as Season 9 does,Seaon 11 was ten times worser then any season that came before it and after it aswell, there is noway that Season 10 is worser then season 11 which is untrue all together,if anything Season 10 beats season 11 as being a whole lot better, even if Season 10 was a hit or a miss season it was still a great season that had some great classic humor and crazy funny moments aswell.

It's not the worst season of the show, (IMO that dubious honour goes to 11 or 12, but I haven't really watched any of the recent seasons bar a few episodes here and there) but the decline in quality from the end of Season 8 is clear to see.

  26. #26

Season 10 was more better then seasons 11 and 12,that's for sure.

Seasons 1-8 were the best for the show.

Well, Season 10 was packed with too many 'Homer becomes a...' episodes like: Homer becomes an inventor, or a Hollywood insider, hippie, bodyguard, truck driver and so on....

I didn't entirely enjoy this season, but it's not the worst season of the show.

    Best: Viva Ned Flanders
Worst: When You Dish Upon A Star

I think I like season 11 more than 10, at least 11 is less stuck in the mud even if a little bit cartoony.

As much as it pains me to say this, season 11 is not the worst season of the show anymore--that honor goes to S21.
