Dr. Zoidberg is overrated.

Yeah, but that also means you have to keep going to that well for more jokes. How many worthwhile variations on "Zoidberg is poor" can there be?

How many worthwhile variations on "Fry is stupid" can there be? How many variations on "Farnsworth is old" can there be? Admittedly those are slightly broader character traits and they have more sides to them than that but my point remains valid.

I don't know. I love how desperate and utterly unstable Zoidberg's poor standing makes him at times. Particularly in Three Hundred Big Boys. I think it has plenty of life in it still in the hands of writers who are actually talented.

If any character's kind of overrated if you ask me, it's Bender. It's not that I don't like the character, he's great; it's just that I never really felt like he was any more or less entertaining than Fry, the Professor, Zapp, or even Hermes at times (who I think after this last season's actually sort of underrated.), but I feel like he gets treated like the series' golden boy sometimes...plus he's generally the fan favorite. it's not really something that's bugged me either much though, even if he was on 2/4 of the dvd movies' very titles.

Bender reminds me a lot of Bart in the early years of The Simpsons (like Joel said), especially insomuch as the show shouldn't focus on him as much as it does. His shtick gets old so quickly... Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV is borderline unwatchable for me at this point and any episode that has him constantly dancing annoys the shit out of me.

bender dancing is often hilarious in small doses, but when he danced all the way through rebirth it got old extremely fast.

I love Dr. Zoidberg, but I will say that his gags are kind of "same ol', same ol'". At one point he used to be my favourite character, but unfortunatley, not anymore. I'll still continue to love him and feel sorry for the poor guy.

In all seriousness, though, of the few episodes of Futurama I've seen, Zoidberg made me laugh the most. So he'd have to be my favourite.

Zoidberg's a good character to have in the background but he's too one-dimensional to have an episode based on him. (although Why Must I Be and Tip of the Zoidberg were decent episodes in my book)

i find the whole show to be overrated, so yeah Zoidberg is too. i remember i used to not find him funny at all while watching on tv. but then when i got the dvds, i liked him more. he did deliver the line i laughed at most in all of futurama. "to hell with your spoiled baby, i need those shoes."

Zoidberg is hilarious. An alien doctor knowing nothing about human anatomy sounds like a premise that could get old really fast, but they manage to keep those jokes fast and always hilarious.

I like how utterly demolished by public opinion I was by the second post in this thread. I kind of knew it would happen, but the magnitude of it is kind of amusing. Pwned.

I still support the basic point of the thread, but I'll grant that Zoidberg has been actually written a little more consistently since the reboot. They've been giving him different things to do, like being the focal point of the yeti episode, having a rivalry with Clamps (which was the only good part of that episode), and trying to be a father figure to Cubert.

He's hardly overrated he and the Prof. always give me the most laughs. If it's any character that's overrated it's Bender and Morbo..... I love Bender a LOT but I feel the humor comes naturally to Zoidberg and Farnsworth where Bender it seems like the writers try to hard sometimes and a lot of the time his jokes are cringe-worthy.

Completely agree! The Professors age and thus outlook on everything and Zoidberg otherworldliness and habits and outlook are just hilarious. Bender is funny, but I think Bender is rather overrated! Go Zoidberg!
