What would make you give up on The Simpsons?

So yeah... the Simpsons sucks nowadays. We get that. A load of people on this site have given up on the show and don't watch the new episodes. So if you haven't already given up on watching new episodes... what would make you? Are you a completionist? Or would you give up if the next few seasons are as bad as the current show? Or some other reason?

Personally, I'm probably going to stick with the show until the end with my current attitude which is that I'll watch new episodes which get a good reception on this site otherwise I'll steer clear.

I alway say to myself whenever a new season airs that this is the final straw - I won't continue watching it. But I still end up watching many of them, although I tend to avoid the real monstrosities.

It's irrelevant really though, all the classic episodes are on DVD and no matter what they churn out in future I'll always treasure them.

as a person who wants terrible badly to hate himself, giving myself proof that 20x22 minutes of my time per year can be worth such utter shit allows me free reign over the depths to which I can let my depression take me. I pray every year for it to be worse.

I don't think the show sucks now. I still love the show. However, I would absolutely give up on the show if it had a Bart/Lisa incest relationship. That would be so disgusting and unfunny.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

    Everything happens for a reason.

Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

To be honest, the only thing that would make me give up on The Simpsons was if it turned into a porn-show, which I very much doubt will happen. I've never disliked any episode of The Simpsons, and I don't see myself doing so in the future. The Simpsons 4 Ever, I say.

A season of Greatest Story Ever D`ohed-like episodes ought to do it.

if s22 is as bad as 20/21, or even worse than those two seasons; i might still watch occasionally afterwards but I'd generally stop watching every week

I'm a completionist, but you never know what the staff could do to this show that could change my mind. All I know is that I'll be tuning in for this season, except without any trace of enthusiasm like I used to have. The first half of this season I won't even be able to get my reviews out as quick, because I've invested my time in watching other shows on Sunday nights like Dexter.

Anoter episode like The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed could do it. Also, the super-dark jokes like Homer dreaming of killing his father are things that would make me give up if they were used frequently. That being said, I'd probably stick it out just to see the last episode. Somehow I think the final episode would be held up to much higher standards.

Repeating plots and or using old characters again to make another average/bad episode (Papa Don't Leach, Brawl in the Mall etc.)

If Fox became a cable-only channel and I'm not paying 40 bucks (or more) a month just to watch a few shows.

Although this might happen as soon as 2014.

I was planning to hold out to the bitter end, but I pretty much stopped watching after stealing first base, with some exceptions (moe letter blues, the bob next door)

the classic episode where the Springfield Mall is closed and moves in with the Simpsons, wherein it aids Homer and Marge in overcoming their only argument to date.

    I'm pretty much a completionist.

It'll also be interesting if the show suddenly make a rebound in quality...(despite how unlikely that sounds, I can still hold onto that thought) or to witness how the show can possibly get any worse...

Although joked about by the writers that will never happen.
I guess if character personalities continued to dramatically go downhill then I would have to quit. But I don't think they can go downhill anymore. For example it's the little things that add insult to injury such as the recent development of Bart who now seems to have Nelson as a croney; whatever happened to the misunderstood bullied troublemaker of a boy? What? He's now sort of cowabunga kid who thinks he's cool and tough? That guy's a dick.

I'm not terribly sure what would make me not watch new episodes, I feel like now I've been on the ride so long, I should just keep going casually and hope that there are funny episodes to come. I don't make as much of an effort anymore when new episodes are on Sky1, but I don't think I'll ever not want to see it, probably just as a "I've seen every episode of The Simpsons, all 500 of them" or however many episodes there turns out to be.

There are still a small handful of characters (Moe, Krusty, Milhouse, Grampa) that I feel they've actually made more interesting over time or at least kept decent and funny enough to still be worth watching for.

    Ha ha ha ha.

I don't make much of an effort to watch new episodes, and sometimes I conciously avoid them, but with the frequency of Simpsons reruns I'm fairly certain I've seen every Simpsons episode more than once (excluding very recent episodes) and I'll probably end up seeing the entire series whether I plan to or not.
