And face it, the world likes him. Scoring high in random 'favorite animated character'-polls, being quoted time and again (even by journalists from foreign newspapers), probably featuring on more merchandise than any other Simpsons-character (who would've expected that during the Bartmania-years), AND he shared a space-shuttle with Buzz Aldrin, which led to a copy of that episode actually being broadcasted for astronauts' pleasure during one of their space-travels.

when a lot of people think of simpsons, they usually(i would guess) think of homer and/or bart, and so it isn't surprising a lot of people like homer

Homer Jay Simpson is a fictional main character in the animated television series The Simpsons and the boorish father of the eponymous family. He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta and first appeared on television, along with the rest of his family, in The Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night" on April 19, 1987. Homer was created and designed by cartoonist Matt Groening while he was waiting in the lobby of James L. Brooks' office. (this is a lie)Groening had been called to pitch a series of shorts based on his comic strip Life in Hell but instead decided to create a new set of characters.
