I'm not entirely sure which episode it was...maybe Cape Feare? That's probably not right.

My official answer to this is Kamp Krusty because I remember the Flintstones couch gag vividly and Dr Internet tells me that this episode aired with that. But it could have been The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie show as this used the same couch gag on international airings. In short, I have no fucking idea but I do know the first couch gag I saw.

It was something like Homer the Great or Flaming Moes you know one of the classic ones.
Unfortunately being so young I started watching the new ones around season 14

The first episode that I ever watched was "Some Enchanted Evening" back in 1990 when it first aired. I was just a baby; so I really didn't have any fandom for the show, but my mother says that she turned on Fox while she left the room and I watched the show.

It's a really neat fact to learn.

The first episode that I watched as a "fan" was "The Fat and the Furriest." Although the plot isn't that great, I can't find myself to hate it because it's the episode that spawned my love of The Simpsons.

I officially started watching new episodes at s16.

I've probably been watching premieres since season 8, and I've seen mid-afternoon reruns for years, so it's something I'll never know.

    Seasons 1-9 - Classic era
    10-12 - Scully era
    13-16 - Silver age
    16.5 - Into the abyss
    17 - The shit abyss
    18-24 - Zombie Simpsons

Didn't get network ten (the station it airs on in Australia) in my hometown while I was there so my first time watching it was on a trip to Canberra. It was "Children of a Lesser Clod" and it was the scene with Arnie Pye chasing Homer after he kidnaps the group. I was...7, I think.
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

I can't remember, really. I was 5 when the show debuted and my brother was swept up in the whole Bart craze, so it was always around as I was growing up. I have vague memories of Stark Raving Dad, simply because it was kind of a big deal, but I don't recall watching it.

The first episode I can definitely remember watching was a rerun of Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. The first first run episode I vividly remember watching was Treehouse of Horror VIII.

The very first thing I saw was part of Children of a Lesser Clod where Homer was swinging the kids in the treehouse, but I wasn't paying much attention.
My first real episode was I, D'ohbot. I thought it was pretty funny at the time, but then I watched the earlier shows. I think the first classic-era episode was The Call of the Simpsons.

Real purists would've closed their eyes and would've waited for their first Simpsons-shot until season 1 re-aired in syndication.

No they wouldn't. Purists would have already seen the show. You can't be a purist before seeing the show. That is just stupid.

My first episode was Homer's Enemy. My parents wouldn't allow me to watch The Simpsons, so I managed to find it on TV late at night in the basement. And from then, I was hooked.
