The gist: one of Billy West's former coworkers at the Howard Stern show was (apparently) told by West that the show was just renewed for the next three years, and has now blabbed about it on the radio.

Also, the "head licking" episode appears to be called "All the President's Heads."

Wow, exciting if true. I only wish Comedy Central would air full, normal seasons instead of this half-season silliness. Then at least I could know if 3 years is really 60+ episodes or only 30+.

My assumption (a stretch when this isn't even fully confirmed yet, but whatever), is that the three years includes next year's half-season, and then probably a production season that will cover the two years after that, with 13 for each year. I wish they would air full seasons too, but it's probably not practical really, for a cable channel that is.

The good news is that I do think the slower pace might help prevent the show from getting stale, or suffering too much staff burnout.

Yeah I think I'd prefer 13-16 episodes/year (varying from average to fantastic) than 24+ episodes (inevitably varying from terrible to decent).

Good David Cohen interview there. I don't know if the interview pre-dates the (supposed, anyway) recent renewal or David just can't talk about it. But in any case, he describes some of the plot for (presumably) "Silence of the Clamps" and also some of "Resurrection," the format-bending episode. And even more importantly, the 13 episodes aired this year will be out in December, including the Holiday special (which airs in November).

Yeah, this'll likely mess with Futurama's seasons vs. production seasons convolution even more. Personally, I wouldn't mind waiting an extra year for these 13 episodes to be put on DVD with the rest of the "season," but I'll pick it up anyway.

Several of those we’ve done, one of them was our best episode of the season, and probably one of our best episodes ever where the Professor builds a time machine that can only go forward in time.

Whoo! Another fan of the Late Philip J. Fry! Glad to hear he agrees it's the best of the season, that to me is a hint that the Futurama writers aren't out of touch with the quality of the show like some shows *cough* The Simpsons *cough*.

I kind of wish that the DVD movies didn't count as a season and these twenty-six episodes were the 5th season. But it won't matter though because the DVD will probably be called volume 5 anyway.

Most of what David S. Cohen said in that interview is super-exciting. Different animation styles, that's the way to do a three parter and not those boring Simpsons three-parters.

I also find it interesting that they are going to explain how Zoidberg and Fansworth first met.

The Planet Express crew races to preserve the traditional practices of the classic holidays of Xmas, Robanukah and Kwanzaa. Along the way, they encounter the murderous Kringlebot, Al Gore's Head-In-A-Jar, mutated pine trees, droidls, fembot wrestling, albino humping worms, Kwanzaabot and giant space bees, all while learning the true meaning behind the holidays... with an occasional song thrown in for good measure

seems weird to have a holiday episode before Thanksgiving, but this is the world we live in

So, according to Got Futurama, the new episodes are going to be aired out of production order (but not fucking with continuity). Here are the first two, both airing on premiere night:

Ok then! June 23rd's 10pm premiere will, like last year, be supersized! That's right, 2 new episodes of nerdy goodness! Yummy!

Due to the fact that all this season's episodes are 'in the can' Comedy Central may mix up the order. Which is what they've done for the first 2 to air though they will not be messing up any continuity ones so chill there continuity police!

10pm ET: Neutopia(Actually production episode 20 of the 26 produced for last year and this):
We encounter an alien that does not understand the concept of 'gender' and so when it meets the crew it goes about conducting experiments such as altering their own genders.

10:30pm ET: Benderama(actually episode 17 of the 26):
Written by Aaron Ehasz(Crimes of the Hot, Future Stock), this episode sees Bender gain the power to infinitely self-replicate, producing ever greater quantities of smaller and smaller Benders. The awesome Patton Oswalt guest-stars as a horrific creature who is sensitive about his appearance (in the script, he just goes by the name 'Unattractive Giant Monster').

Neutopia looks like a fun gimmick episode in the vein of Leela's Hurdles and Prisoner of Benda. But the bar is set high for those!
