This episode was distinctly average for the series but that isn't really a bad thing. I loved the first act and the pondering chamber is one of my favourite jokes ever. Also Assorama and the Pimpsons raised a rather immature laugh from me. The concept was good but I feel that the last act really let the whole thing down slightly. Leela's characterization was weird which is my main gripe. But still this episode shows enough for me to have hope for the rest of the season.

I personally preferred 'Rebirth' because I think it was a solid episode and more consistent but this was probably funnier. All things considered, good if uneven episode.

    This.

Seriously since when did Futurama not do sex jokes and other base humour? It was always been more sexually explicit than the Simpsons but still not approaching Family Guy or South Park levels . Pubic Library was a terrible joke because most people notice that Public looks like Pubic when they're 12, and you expect a little bit more from Professional comedy writers, even if it is deliberately bad. But to say jokes of that nature is too much for Futurama and that they wouldn't have done that before is just naive. And I could easily imagine that Pubic Library jokes appearing in the original series, they've always made knowingly bad puns or innuendo like that.
Though I do still think there's a real danger that they will get lazy with sex jokes and start doing them a lot more just because they can now.

Hmm, the episode was a bit too awkward. I'm not liking the orgy, v-giny or jokes like that, they feel pushed and embareassing. I think the plot in this was horrible and Leela was very out of character, it doesn't seem like they can keep the good chemistry they had between the characters before.

Allthough it had some lows, it also had some great Futurama humor in here. I particulary laughed at Zapp Brannigans: "Yet again, we meet at last!" I love that stuff from Zapp. I just hope they don't realise that he is a popular character and force him on us like South Park did with Cartman and How I Met Your Mother has done with Barney.

Bottom line: I don't like the new direction with more sexual humor, I don't like the obvious humor and jokes like the understanding chamber or ipod either, they don't seem natural. But they still have some of that writing magic they had before, like Zapp's one-liners.

    3/5

I thought this was weaker than the first episode and since it's sort of the first proper episode it's a bit disappointing that there were structural problems. But it's a bit of an odd story as it required zapp and leela to be stuck in one location for a very long time with a scene near the end that repeatedly has zapp narrating a flashback of what really happened over and over. So a little like the first episode in a way. I'm looking forward to them doing an episode that's structured in a regular forward moving way.

It seems like an odd choice to be the 2nd episode because it's a fairly conceptual episode since a large part of it takes place in one location for a while. Seems like it would have made more sense to have it later in the season and put a more conventional episode 2nd.

I'm also finding the eagerness with which they get the characters naked a little creepy, it's not hentai. I mean what's next tentacle rape? ......Oh wait. But getting Leela naked, Amy suggesting orgies and dressing in dominatrix gear, It really feels like their playing up to their creepier fanboys

Anyway it wasn't funny as the first one, less inspired moments, dialogue just generally not as sharp. Although I loved chamber of understanding and Kiff pointing out that zooming in on an object won't make the resolution any clearer, it's always been something that irritates me on shows when they zoom in on something and then just enhance the image somehow.

Can who people who have such a problem with the sex or bodily function jokes go back and watch the first brannigan episode, a big piece of garbage, the one on zoidbergs planet, valentines episode, bicyclops built for two, the deep south, mothers day, war is the h word, amazon women in the mood, parasites lost, anthology of interest 2, kif gets knocked up a notch, bender shouldn't be allowed on tv, spanish fry and maybe some others I've left out.

Or just you know, grow up a little. I even agree they got a bit lazy with them but some of you sound offended by the very notion of futurama doing such jokes when they're actually incredibly mild all things considered. Magnum usually has more outrageous stuff in his avatars.

Not really sure what I was talking about here, I watched them both again later and actually paid attention and thought she was pretty in-character other than being so chill with fucking Zapp.

This one was better than the first though, much funnier.

Considering they're on comedy central and could conceivably go as fucked up as South Park, language and content wise, they are showing a lot of taste and restraint

anyone notice that this was written (or drafted) by a new or one-time writer, which they're having to import more often this season?

these can tend to have a noticable drop in quality pretty often on the simpsons. but not always.

I'm also finding the eagerness with which they get the characters naked a little creepy, it's not hentai. I mean what's next tentacle rape? ......Oh wait. haha i noticed this with the movies. but, as long as there's no chance of pandering, i'm fine with it.

at the same i also found it odd how they felt the need to cover zapp and leela's asses. had the director never seen the show?

I'd rather they stick with the show people fell in love with in 1999. The danger behind uncancelled shows, like Family Guy is that they start ignoring the fans who helped save the damn thing, namely acting like they can get away with anything.

This episode was on the level of "Rebirth"; a great re-introductory story, but nothing else.

Ep started out great, was funny and Zapp was on great form for the first half. Loved the DIY Nimbus. Then things got a bit stupid and took a turn for the worse. This dragged it down below the quality of Rebirth in my opinion. I liked the concept of the episode, but Zapp stranded with Leela should have been much more funny. Leela thinking her and Zapp were the last humans (mutant and human then) alive after the Earth blows up (well when she thought it had), but heeeellloooo; do you really think every human is on Earth at that exact moment in time and only you two were off on another planet? (even though it wasn't, but that's not the point) So you're absolutely sure that no one else from Earth is in space anywhere at all? Somehow you were, and enough to make out with the Zapper. Seemed a bit too dumb to me...

Talking snake, eh. Then Zapp explaining everything, was funny the first time, maybe even twice, but beyond that it got annoying. I still liked the ep, but the second half is not up to Futurama's usual standard...

Yeah surely millions of humans don't live on earth and presumably there's other planets that happened to have humans on them. And any given time millions of earthlings will be away from earth in the future for various reasons, so that didn't make sense.

Yeah new writer in Carolyn Premish and she doesn't seem to have an imdb entry so it's one of her first writing jobs. Unless it's Simpsons writer Carolyn Omine and she got a new name through marriage or something.

God it's been years since I was speculating on this kind of shit in GD.

if the magic wand of leela's de-hydration can wave away every other shoehorned plot point, then i guess it can for leela thinking everyone's dead too.

Was a pretty good episode, some good jokes. To me, like "rebirth" it seemed a bit rushed or forced, like they were trying to cram everything back into the forefront.

Leela & Zapp hooking up, while a bit out of character for Leela, probably serves as a reminder or re-establishment of her general resentment for Zapp... the execution of it was a bit off... it would've been better served I think if Zapp just outright tricked her (like the first time) rather than it being forced by another party.

With both episodes, I'll have to see how they hold up to repeat watchings... but I think both episodes are about 4/5 in my mind... ones I'd watch anytime on late night re-runs...
I've been accused of vulgarity. I say that's bullshit!

It's like people have forgotten everything Futurama was and only remember the math jokes and grandiose plots.

I'd call this average for the series overall. Let's remember that Futurama at it's worst is boring, and this episode wasn't.

Futurama at its worst is weirdly childish, case-in-point would be Birdbot, Less than Hero, Route of All Evil, Anthology II's Oz segment and some portions of Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles. The snake from this episode is an example of that.

I know I seem to be in the minority here, but I think this is the strongest of the two episodes. The first episode, as many mentioned, was so oddly paced and almost unneccesary. This episode had issues, but overall felt more formed and thought out.

Zapp is always a winner, and more gags here worked than didn't. Leela was out of character a bit, but I think they explained it through things like emotional destress at the idea that Earth may gave been destroyed, plus the dehydration and stuff. Once she got hydrated, she seemed to become her old self again.

The ending, though, was awful. Plus, they've already done that with the "human horn" episode.

    heh heh, poopiter.

another decent episode. I liked the whole v-giny thing and I don't care that it wasn't really utilised because it wasn't the focus of the episode. I actually thought the pubic library joke was pretty good but I didn't actually think much of the chamber of understanding because it just reminds me too much of the angry dome and similar things I'm not remembering right now. the ending bugged me too but I'm not going to let it affect what I thought too much because it was a throwaway joke. futurama is back, yay.

what was you guy's problem with the ending exactly? the vulgarity, or leela's willingness? cause it's not such a stretch that leela was uh just a trooper for the moment.

or yeah, public sex in futurama, GRRRRR.

    my problem with the whole v-giny entity wanting to destroy the earth because of it's goal of total universal censorship plot being underused was that like the ideas of;

-the cast dieing and being re-born
-having a fake robot leela that had to come to terms with all of her existential concerns, while finding a place against the real leela and trying to have a forbidden robosexual romance with fry
    -leela being in a coma
-zapp and leela working in conjunction on a dangerous mission
-the potential for a sober and able leela being marooned with zapp
-a delirious and needy leela having to rely on zapp
-an adam and eve parrallel used in the context of a science-fiction hypothetical

it was an idea worthy of deeper exploration in potential future episodes (or past episodes), that was wasted forever just to be crammed into an already wildly packed episode.

To be fair, they aren't putting this idea totally to waste, it's a major plot point of an upcoming episode (albeit with different characters).

I just seen it and I thought it was pretty solid, slightly better then rebirth. Maybe I’m blinded by the fact that it’s back but I didn’t see many flaws at all, and I think the reason that other people have is that they’ve built up the idea that Futurama was the greatest thing ever which, while being a fantastic show and easily one of my favourites, it wasn’t. It was funny, heartwarming and delivered fantastic moments again and again and again, but people have built it up in their minds thinking it was the greatest thing mankind has ever produced and even if it was better then the original series, it wouldn’t live up to expectations, which really really sucks because the new Futurama is pretty fantastic.

Anyways, the episode was strong, the Leela-Zapp story was a very fun, somewhat unique idea that I really loved and it was complimented by a funny subplot. The Quick gags also stood out as the highlight of the episode also.

I liked how this episode was the complete opposite of “Love Labours Lost in Space” but ended in the same resolution (In “lost in space,” Leela thinks Zapp is a heroic god-like figure only to find he’s an arrogant douche bag, but in this episode she goes in thinking of the disgusting character and eventually thinking he was the helpful hero and both ended in sex.) Although the plot was kind of the “2 characters stuck together” cliché with a few slight changes it was pulled off in true Futurama form: Original and Hilarious. Finally, the Zapp admitting what he did scene is one of my favourite new scenes from the history of the show. I was a little put off by the ending as it kind of came out of nowhere. It was excusable however, because of the great moments that proceeded.

Fry, Farnsworth and the rest were all fantastic in the subplot which (with it’s V-GINY plot point) was funny and fun to watch, I do wish they’d spent some more time on the censoring planet destroyer and less on the repent angle. The contreverial orgy line was ok by me, we’ve seen dirtier things in the past and the faces of the guys were hilarious to watch. So it was fun, but seemed a little rushed.

The Gags in this episode were fantastic, The little Zapp bumpers at the start of each act were really funny and it gave a little insight to his character which was cool to see, the “Chamber of Understanding” was hilarious I’ll admit but I didn’t quite react to the level that everyone else did, it was funny sure but it seemed like a rehash of the angry dome. Some of zapp’s one liners were LOL-worthy and Kifs explanation of resolution made me laugh more then I thought it would.

So it was a good episode, probably won’t be imprinted in my memory as a favourite but it had some laughs and an awesome new plot so I can’t be unhappy.
