This is not just my favorite animated movie, but much likely one of the best (maybe THE) movies I have ever seen. It's so warm, so sad, so poetic. It made me hate war more than anything else, and all that avoiding the overdramatized tirade or a dishonest and manipulative simplification of things. Great stuff.

Grave of the Fireflies is one of the movies that's not just good for an animated movie; it's a great movie period. saying it's the Schindler's List of animated films does it a disservice; Grave of the Fireflies is a million times better than Schindler's List, no contest.

I'd say either the Iron Giant or Fantastic Mr. Fox. They're both incredibley underrated animated films. With Fantastic Mr. Fox, I just love most everything about the movie, from the animation style to the humor. I haven't seen Iron Giant in a while, but I know it's one of my favorites.

I haven't see Grave of the Fireflies, I guess I need to move that up on my Netflix queue.

grave of the fireflies is an impressive movie, but i wouldn't call it on of my favorites, not even close. Because after i have seen it once i can't bear to watch it again. But it's one of these movies you won't forget anyway.

I haven't seen Spirited Away unfortunately. However because I'm so lazy I will quote part of a review I read on Howl's Moving Castle:

Those of us who keep hoping Miyazano will duplicate the story perfection of Spirited Away may well end up disappointed with everything he does for the rest of his life. Howl's Moving Castle was not originally his project, & he wasn't first choice to direct it. It is not a daring film for content or design, & the animation is not above average but is high-end commercialism.

The story, adapted from a novel by children's fantasist Diane Wynne Jones, is more than commonly captivating but still much more suited to children than adults, & as a "family" film the adults will merely bare it, unless already anime fans with their aesthetics button turned down to the eternal-kid setting. But for actual kids it will certainly exercise their imaginations.

However until I see Spirited Away this film is definitely my favorite animated film I've seen.

It has the imagery, the great animation and music which have made his films famous, but on the other hand there is very little effort to make a plot, develop characters or give it coherence as a whole. It feels like an unfiltered bunch of magic elements, and as overdone as Spirited Away may look in a first view, it's still two hundred times more meaningful in every single shot and character than that whole Howl's Moving Castle.

Heh I've been seeking the overall opinion of Howl's Moving Castle and the general consesus seems to be that it indeed is considered his worst work. I think this proves my theory that I seem to like the worst or at least weakest work from film makers .

I've always found more consensus backing your opinion than refuting it, actually. But it depends on where you look I guess.

In any case, watch Spirited Away. It's one of the greatest and fundamental pieces of the all time cinema, and IMO Miyazaki's best.

It drags some of the problems about the plot construction that were shown in Howl's Moving Castle, but it's still a great and worthy movie that takes back the strength of Miyazaki's classics like My Neighbour Totoro. Very, very cute.

So yes, buy it if you have the chance.

I checked this one out a month ago or so, It's quite good but not great. I like the bright colors and style, but the story moves kinda slow I guess. Just throwing it out here: what do you think of this movie?

My favourite is Spirited Away, haven't seen it in a while but it really had a big impact on me. Paprika gets the second place, love that story.

I always liked the Secret of Nimh, it was like my intro to dramatic animated movies as a kid, and also the 2nd care bears movie heh heh...

I've seen Hotaru no Haka/Grave of the Fireflies a few times, I don't think I can watch it anymore because I'll just break down crying towards the end. I felt so bad for Seita, nothing mattered to him anymore at the end.
