There is some great episodes in this season. There is also a couple of ones i find really boring. I must say that the good ones outwiegh the shit though.

Am I the only one who doesn't really like Mountain of Madness? I find that one to be the dullest of the season, so that would be my vote (especially since no one else has mentioned it).

I'm also not a fan of El Viaje (anytime it's Homer questioning their relationship and not Marge, I feel offended; she's obviously the best thing that ever happened to him), and Simpsoncalif is also an odd episode.

The Twisted World is also a rather dull episode (although I love Jack Lemmon) with a weird ending, so that would be my 2nd least favorite. I do love the gag where Homer goes to church to ask the mob for help, though. The Spin-off Showcase, even though I've defended it on here, is also among the worst.

I think it's important to note that even the absolute worst of this season, whatever you consider it to be, would be absolutely fantastic post-season 9. That speaks to how strong this season was (really, none of these episodes are bad, just worse than others), and to how far the show has fallen. I would kill for Mountain of Madness nowadays.

Like a bunch have said already, the worst of this year isn't so bad, really. Gun to my head, I'd go with My Sister My Sitter. It's got some great bits like Homer at the Squidport and "My diagnosis... bad babysitting," but it's ultimately way too slight/unmemorable for a season eight episode

I also remember Homer's Phobia as kinda sorta lame, but this might just be my own latent homophobia talking. And In Marge We Trust I think is maybe not-so-great, too, but I haven't seen that one in a reeeaaally long time

why do you say that marge is the best thing that happened to him. she is a housewife, and her hair looks terrible. I also do believe you are the only one who thinks mountain of madness is the worst. some people hate that episode, but come on the canine mutiny, simsoncalif, secret world of marge can never be considered better even taking differing opinions into consideration.

The worst episode of season 8 is Simpsoncalifragilisticexpialad'ohcious, followed by Lisa's Date with Density and the Simpson's Spinoff Showcase.

The best of season 8 would be The Springfield Files,The Homer They Fall, You Only Move Twice,Brother From Another Series and Homer's Enemy.

While season 8 has some great episodes, there are also some weak and mediocre episodes, and it's one of the weakest seasons of the classic era.

"The Secret War Of Lisa Simpson"
Kids, let me tell you about another so-called ``wicked'' guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was...
I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know what I'm talking about. He used to drive that blue car?

-- Homer's parable of the guy in the blue car, ``Homer the Heretic''

    Ralph: I Won! I Won!
Principal Skinner: No Ralph this means you're failing English
Ralph: Me fail English? That's unpossible.

Oh, I like that episode so much.
It's one of my top ten Lisa-episodes.
    Also great Bart-Lisa bonding moments.
and the "lights off" knock "LIGHTS ON! LIGHTS ON!" always puts a smile on my face.
And the "you are my sunshine"-bit... it breaks me everytime.

^ Yeah, the secret war of Lisa simpson was a good episode, another great Bart and Lisa episode.

Anyway, the season 8 episodes I couldn't care less for, are Simpsons spin off show case. Burns baby burns, Twisted world of Marge Simpson, and to an extent, Homer's Phobia. (Not a bad episode, its actually pretty good, but its not something I would bother watching twice)

I personally don't get why Simpsonscanfragilistic is hated here, yea, its cartoony, but it has some great songs and humor, and the time up until Sherry bobbins appears, the characterisation is very good IMO.

I like it too. I can see how some people might call it a manipulative story, but there's too much in it that I just love and I'd gladly buy just about story if it's humourous and the characters are portrayed with the likeability they are in this one.

In my opinion, the worst episode of season eight has to be "The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase." It is rather dull and not entertaining, except for the "I Want Candy" song from "The Simpsons Family Smile-Time Variety Hour."

I find that this season shows the first decline of the Simpsons as I didn't care for quite a few of the storylines.

My least favorite is the Simpson Spin Off Showcase. This episode makes it point about spinoffs by writing its own 3 godawful segments.

    Runner-ups:

_Twisted World of Marge: Marge begins a business. I always found the idea for the storyline very uninteresting. The episode's pacing seemed slow and there weren't many laughs. Unlike others, I enjoyed the mafia fight.

_Simpsoncalif... : Great 1st act but the Simpsons' take on musicals can be hit&miss sometimes and it was rather exhausting here.

    Really?
A season that gave us Hank Scorpio, Poochie, the Space Coyote and Frank Grimes?
A season that established Kirk Van Houten as an interesting secondary character?
A season that delivered a highly succesfull crossover-episode with the X-Files?
A season that dared to pair up Lisa with Nelson?

I like the overall story-development during the story.
It starts really small and tends to escalate more and more.
Lisa's dreamsequence (although she wasn't dreaming technically) reminds me of the one Bart had in "Bart vs Thanksgiving".

I like the setup for this scene. It creates an uneasy and surreal feel.
The cold blue colors help to strenghten this feeling.
