Don't forget "A Flight to Remember", the first Futurama-episode that felt really epic and showed Bender's genuine and vulnerable side.

"Bender's Big Score" had also a lot of emotion and gravitas thanks to the Lars-storyline.

And when you're talking about sad and emotional Futurama-episodes,"The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" is also worth mentioning. It was a great finale for the show and those last moments always give me goosebumps.

futurama is not great for emotion , the only thing Iike about it is the irony of the future and the idea of what earth will be in the year 3000

    i still didn't like that much. as i said in the past, it felt like a generic finale for any show where the man wanted to get a girl. the only difference was this is a cartoon {and luckily, it isn't the finale}

The generic finale would end with the man kissing the girl and them demonstrating their eternal love or shit like that. The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings didn't bet on this. It was a sweet, hopeful ending, but definitely more of an open one. What I liked in fact was that it didn't affirm anything. We know there is a great attraction between Fry and Leela, we know an achievement like this will get to Leela emotionally, but we don't know what will happen between them when the concerto is over.

Every story has been told in one way or another.
So originality lays always in the execution.
And in this one, the execution delivered.
That whole last episode was one great buildup to that bittersweet ending,
and after seeing an over-the-top musical piece during the last 8 minutes,
we get to see this little sweet childlike drawingstyle ending
as a testament for the purity of Fry's feelings towards Leela.

not "Every story", just most. there are more things they could've done. and i didn't really like the execution of that scene. i liked the overall episode but i didn't like the ending much. bias here, but it may have been because as i said, i just can't get passed liking that kind of finale {even tho now it isn't the finale, it originally was}. i know it is a sense of ambiguity on whether or not they get together. but i feel if they ended it like that, then they would have eventually. that's why i like the beginning of the next season, because it is supposed to show what they are like dating. i don't like when shows end when the characters start dating, because it leads to a lot of questions in my mind, on how they are as a couple

    Good choice.
"The Beach" is a delightful episode that just revolves around the main antagonists being what they essentially are: teenagers with issues.
And again: great character-development for Zuko, arguably the breakout-character from this series.

I sort of saw it like that, but I saw it more as:

They CAN'T be teenagers. They can't be human. They try to do the most normal human thing and they completely crumble. Absolutely brilliant. That whole long scene by the campfire when they analyze each other...how on earth was this on Nickelodeon? I know 6 year olds who watch this show. How?

Zuko is just destroying me. I can't take it.

    Good analysis.
I just started rewatching season 2.
Saw "Return to Omashu" and the way in which Azula manipulated Ty Lee to tag along.

This series is one of the most consistent ones I ever saw.
No filler episodes, every installment has meaning and plays a part in the bigger story.
Very hard to choose favorite episodes because of that.

    No filler episodes

Weeeell let's not go crazy. What about the one where Aang has to help those 2 groups of people who want to walk through the canyon but split up, and blame the other for eating their food? That was pretty filler-y. The end was funny though. We dubbed season 1 "village of the week" episodes.

Since towards the end of season 1 there's been no filler at all though.

    Oh yeah, season 1.
For some reason I've only watched those episodes just one time.
Still, that season was valuable in establishing the concept of the show, introducing the characters, mapping out the various locations and the world of the series as a whole...
And once the Avatar-sandbox was established, the real fun could start in season 2.
