I missed most of it just because I forgot but saw the last part with the boys in the movie theater and I gotta wonder, was that all of the episode? If so can this really be qualified as an episode? It seemed like all I got out of this was Matt and Trey want out of their contracts, though I need to see all of it to know for sure but it seems pretty certain...

I kind of agree. It mostly seems like a statement rather then an episode, though the performances of Stan and Randy help the medicine go down easy.

Anybody else really anticipating the new season? I can't stop thinking about what they're going to do. I haven't looked forward to a TV show this much since I was a kid, which is ironic considering the last episode's theme.

I don't necessarily even care that much about the "cliffhanger" because I can't even see Matt and Trey 100% coming back where it left off. I kinda have the impression that season and mid-season premieres are where Matt and Trey have had a current event on their minds for a little while now and scramble to pump out a show about it while people still remember it was a news event, so honestly I can't see them continuing a part 2 about Stan being cynical and Randy farting into a microphone because of tweenwave.

But to answer your question, I always look forward to new South Park. The show's plots are so unique that you really don't know what to expect due to the lack of traditional sitcom cliches. The topical episodes don't always excite me, but then hearing a non-topical plot announced the following week excites me even more.

Trey and Matt heavily alluded that they will follow-up to it on their Daily Show appearance.

How could they not? The thought of a two parter never crossed my mind; I always assumed the rest of the series would be a continuation, so they're not stuck in the same rut they're always complaining about (both in interviews, and oh so debatably in the episode itself).

i hope they follow it up. i've read that some people don't think they will and that 'you're getting old' was just a one-time episode and next episode things will back to normal. i really hope not.

nonetheless i am really excited for new episodes. i started watching south park a few months ago and love it so much. can't wait to see what happens next. is it october yet?

Trey and Matt will be on 60 Minutes at 7/6 c this Sunday. Besides a few videos on South Park Studios, I can never say I've seen behind the scenes of the show.

Anyway, based on the script they showed one of them hammering out, it looks like we'll be seeing the death of Clyde Frog in the mid-season premiere.

If anyone wants any spoilers...it sounds like Matt and Trey are definitely set on Stan's parents staying divorced, saying it's like an anti-sitcom formula they're hoping to go for. And when I watched the special on Sunday, it looked like the premiere was going to be called "Crapped His Pants." Though that could change.

"Crapped His Pants" is probably the "bank show" for this season. (The episode that Matt and Trey start early so they can take a little time off in the middle of the season.)

Well it'd be different than the Simpsons seeing as how Stan is far away from all the other kids and Marsh is staying in South Park.

I also have a feeling that they're going to be together in a couple of seasons or so because they can't seem to commit to permanent changes. (I mean we've had Mr. Garrison replace Mr. Hat with Mr. Twig, get a sex operation to become a woman and then revert those back within a few seasons or so. We also got Mr. Choksondik, the bus driver who died, and even Kenny died for a season before he was brought back.)

One thing I admire about South Park is it's ability to do stuff differently, I mean it'd be boring if they went to the status quo everyday (even though that's what they do everyday.) They do manage to take risks and they manage to stick with it for a few episodes and seasons before reverting back, the only permanent thing seems to be Mr. Garrison and the kids moving to 4th grade and staying there.

And, other than the episodes with Ms. Choksondik, is there even any difference at all with them being in the 4th grade? The same classroom is still used, isn't it? It's more like a change that is worth mentioning but doesn't impact the show one bit. Like J.K. Rowling revealing years later that Dumbledore was gay. Ok, maybe it was a motif behind her writing, but it didn't alter the words on the pages at all.

And as for your mention about them getting back together, that did already come up in the 60 Minutes footage of everyone in the writer's room I posted. So I wouldn't doubt it.

  17. #347

And in fact, the 4th grade thing was actually sort of a meta-joke about shows that make a big deal about the characters moving up a grade or into another school level, but when you tune in it's basically the same exact show. They purposely made a big deal out of it, gave it a shiny new intro...and then basically gave the audience (in Matt and Trey's words) "the same crap" as before.
Two eyes, two ears, a chin, a mouth, ten fingers, two nipples, a butt, two kneecaps, a penis. I've just described to you the Loch Ness Monster. And the reward for its capture? All the riches in Scotland. So I have one question: why are you here?

So it looks again like Cartman will confuse the real meaning and use of a serious disorder. I was hoping on more emphasis on the implied Kyle/Cartman friendship, but it seems like it will go that way. (Kenny and Kyle being "even onboard") Looking forward to how they'll address Stan's plot.

What I find interesting about that plot description is I actually never even heard of Asperger's until coming to nohomers and now it gets a South Park episode. Coincidental huh?

  20. #350

....wow, okay, I really hope this one is good, because frankly I've yet to see a representation of Asperger's on a major television show that didn't make me want to strangle the writers. (Incidentally, the writers on Boston Legal/Grey's Anatomy/Law and Order can suck a bag of dicks.)

Which, I actually think it will be. The Tourette's episode might be the only TV show about a serious mental disorder I can think of that was respectful and non-awful. How pathetic is it, actually, that South Park is the only show I can trust to handle something like this? Any other show and I'd instantly be wincing at just seeing the word "Asperger's" in the plot description.

Seems like a random target, but after years of laughing at the show ripping on countless religions/organisations/minorities etc. I guess it's my turn to be offended. It's only fair. I doubt I'll find it as offensively inaccurate as the lawyer on Boston Legal, mind you.

...well unless the joke is constantly cartman having burgers on his ass cheeks. Which I wouldn't be shocked if they did for 22 minutes.

Nah. It's just this place told you about Aspenger's first...

In any case, I don't think Cartman has Aspenger's... From the episode's we've seen he's just a mentally deranged kid who seems to carry warped views on almost anything and seems to be addicted to his mother (as in getting food, getting free stuff, treating her like his waitress, getting love; the brat of the 21st century.) I'm going to guess that he does something that unintentionally resembles Aspengers and/or he sees a news report on TV and Cartman has serious doubts that he has Aspengers. I mean I don't know what he can abuse with Aspenger's so I'm guessing this is going to be a Cartman-crisis episode.

God that Boston Legal character was fucking dreadful. I'm willing to chalk up some other shows as being well-intentioned and just incompetent, but whoever came up with him should be barred from writing television ever again. Wasn't he able to turn it "off" by smoking a cigar, or something like that?

In any case, I don't think Cartman has Aspenger's...
Well yeah, I think that's a given here.

Cartman has "had" metal retardation, HIV and Tourette's...anything else missing?

The B-plot with Stan should really be good for the episode, to stray away from the Cartman crapping out cheeseburgers gags we're sure to get enough of. I can't even think off the top of my head the last time South Park has done a completely unrelated side plot. HUMANCENTiPAD and T.M.I. kind of qualify, but those are more so stories that branch off of the main plot and progress the episode than act as an extra story.

Yes. I wasn't born in a foreign country with foreign parents; I was born in the USA with 1 foreign parent. (the other wasn't foreign.)

I'm wondering if you thought the show handled it well after all, since the episode has been getting a lot of complaints from people with Asperger's.

it doesn't make sense to be upset. they said virtually nothing about asperger's aside from it being used as a cliche plot device in a satirical metajoke.
