What is the worst episode ever

I’m still confused as to how nobody who hates the episode can criticize what Bart and Lisa did; they intentionally tried to ‘ruin mom and dad’s fun’. surely that’s bad too? They knowingly and willingly acted annoying, trying to ruin any alone time their parents wanted, just for the sake of it. Surely that should be critical too? If anything I find that way more annoying and ‘mean’ than what Homer and Marge did. I’m still perplexed; are we supposed to be rooting for the kids, who even, in one line, admit that they’re going to try their hardest to ruin their parents fun? Every couple is going to want privacy; especially those with kids like Bart. They even left them with their Grandfather; it’s not like they totally just ditched them. And then, later on, all they wanted was alone time. That’s understandable. I admit, what they did to get ‘rid’ of the kids was kind of mean, but it had to be done. Parents deserve alone time, whether you agree or not, and that’s all they wanted. There may have been a mean jab once or twice, such as Marge calling the kids ‘stupid’ early on; she only did that because she was frustrated at the time. Surely, when you’re frustrated, you say things you don’t really mean? If anything Homer and Marge are acting like a real married couple in this episode. I’m with hammster; the amount of hate this episode gets is really ridiculous

Hmmm. I actually think what Homer and Marge did was worse, if only because they outright lied to Bart and Lisa about going to Dayton. I like the episode, but I can't recall Homer and Marge ever doing something so underhanded. I think they deserved what the kids did to them.

I agree with this; parents do deserve alone time, and I knew that from the beginning when I said this episode was the worst one of the bunch -- but you explained it perfectly, about how there were little mean jabs every now and again but overall, Marge and Homer were just trying to have a "vacation from responsibility". Bart and Lisa purposefully trying to ruin their parents fun was terribly mean and should deserve the hate as much as Homer and Marge's actions get. I still think of the episode non-enjoyable, but for the reason that both parties are ignorant to eachother's desires.

I actually found "The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed" was pretty enjoyable. It was definitely hilarious when Homer sees the Veggie Tales instead of God and/or Jesus.

My 2 cents on That 90s Show:
I don't believe The Simpsons is the kind of show you can expect flawless continuity. The show is and has always been about modern American culture and they do have to move with the times so long as they keep going with new seasons. Nobody seems to cry tears if they see Lisa using a Mac or talking to Mark Zuckerberg, but if you dare think that they were young in the 90's then it is an outrage. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Anyway back to the original topic, there are too many to list so I'll just say the most recent one I turned off without bothering to watch all the way through. Which was Gump Roast.

I think it's funny this thread starts with The Principal and the Pauper, which isn't even in the bottom 250 anymore. Of the first 9 seasons, maybe it's a bottom-10 episode (that's an argument I'd listen to), but of the show's entire history it's probably in the top third now.

Season 21 had a lot of awful episodes, Greatest Story and Thursdays with Abie being the worst. I'm always partial, though, to KTAAR, Simpson Safari, Saddlesore Galactica, Homer vs. Dignity and Homer Simpson in:Kidney Trouble. Those are the worst of the Scully era, which was the worst era, so therefore they would be my bottom 5.

Well the third act if fucking atrocious. But i will give it that the first act is not terrible for the Scully era. There are certainly worse episodes in my opinion as well. But it is not that hard to see why it would be someone's choice for worst episode ever.

Well, it always will be The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed as being the worst episode ever, but before that I always hated Kill the Alligator and Run.

I actually like that one. Out of like a million episodes that would be the worst, I can't imagine why.
I haven't seen much post classic episodes, but I thought Mypods and Broomsticks was really bad. I almost couldn't believe my eyes. Why would they make something that horrible?
Note that I haven't seen S14-19 and I haven't seen S21.

At one point, um, over 10 years ago, I would have said Simpson Safari or Kill the Alligator and Run. But that was back in season 11, when there was far less crappy episodes to compare to. Now? I don't even know, I've lost count of the number of episodes I'd rate 1/5 in the last 10 years.

Annoying would a compliment for that guy. He's the most un-fucking-bearable thing ever on the show. Most of the time when someone calls an entire episode "unwatchable" or "cringeworthy", I just roll my eyes. But in this case, that's the best description. and aside from him, everything else was just uninteresting and obnoxiously boring.

For me, I think it's a tossup between The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed and Love Is A Many-Splintered Thing. I didn't think that any episode after D'ohed could be as bad but during the recently ended Season 24 it happened with Many-Splintered.
