Alright then, two main with occasional third.

Let's stray away from archetypes (or "the" characters, like "the smart one" "the dumb one", "the girl", "the kid", "the awkward guy", etc.) It can work sometimes, but it can lead to characters being one-dimensional. If we have an awkward character, it shouldn't be that every time we come up with an awkward situation or someone acting awkward it should immediately be written to that character. In other words, no "go-to" guys as far as plots and jokes go. Try them out with each character in your head and think who would lead to the funniest reaction/results.

edit: yeah I'm a guy. my avatar has a boner pencil in it dude

We should have an emanuelburnell type character. Someone who says something and then immediately contradicts himself. At least once in a while

Edit: nevermind, HappyPalooza doesn't think it would work. oh well

VA auditions should come after we've worked out the character personalities, so we can find a voice that fits the character.

    Yea. Like for some strong, tall guy, we don't want him sounding like a little 5 year old {bad example, I know}

Well don't write any idea off because I don't agree, I am wrong sometimes.

    That's comedy my good man.

But yeah we'll have to keep the voices realistic if we're doing a realistic cartoon.

Haha, you seem to have the most ideas for this whole thing

And I think if we had that type of character SOMETIMES, it could work. Not every single episode of course, maybe once every 4-5 episodes or something

I'm sorry Bea, but I don't like the idea either.

emanuel can stay on the board.

contradicting is only really funny on paper rather than in visual comedy.

I was thinking the characters would be like the lowest common denominator of the middle class. Two high school drop outs working at a video store. Everybody hates them, but they think they're cool. Something like that.

I disagree, maybe he could say something really intelligent but he contradicts himself like that, like he messes something up in what he said, but too stubborn to admit it or something

It would have to be executed really well.

But I see the concept having the potential to fail.

What's the age of these characters going to be? Teens, middle aged, twenty somethings? I think we should go with characters of all age groups, but we need an age of the main characters.

I'm still for my idea, because there are many possibilities to do inside jokes and people coming up with a story can be a really funny situation.

We should at least try it once, shows ALWAYS try new things, and some are surprisingly more popular then the people thought

Well if the character is a popular, charismatic lawyer or politician filling his speeches with holes, fallacious logic, and contradictions in almost-Colbert deadpan manner it could work.

I'd say anywhere from 18 to 30, not older, not younger

One thing we should avoid is creating a character like the Fonz. I mean one that overshadows other characters, and makes viewers become bored with the other cast.

Agreed, a range of characters serving for just one joke wouldn't be harmful, and if it is it can easily be dropped.

But then we could have a spin off all about him

Nah, I agree, the show would probably fail then

Yeah Urkel was his complete opposite, yet ended up doing the same thing on Family Matters.

1 teenager and 2 twenty somethings. The teenager is the 20 something's younger brother.

Good idea, I think we could work with that. Funny speeches are fairly easy to write, and can be excellent when done right.

So the ideas for the set-up so far are:
People who work on a small animated sitcom
    People surviving in post-apocolyptia
    People running a cult
    Gay people
Guys living on the side of a highway/small apartment
High school dropouts working in a videogame store

    and no families

Oh my God, they totally ruined that show in the final seasons. It sucks. We must never do outlandish things like that for ONE character.

If I ever made a show {cough Robot Richard cough}, and there was ONE character way more popular then others, I wouldn't want the show to continue. I mean, it would demean everything I had worked so hard for, especially for all the other characters, it wouldn't be what I had envisioned for my show

It can be hard avoiding break-out characters though if you favor all of them equally. If people respond to a character, they respond. The part that's our responsibility would be not to exploit it.

This ones my favorite, it has some good possibilities for some good dark humor.

Its definately the best, but animation wise, it would be very dificult to do.
