Sadly, the thinking of "It's good because it's the Simpsons!" is what makes the show go round these days, not because the show is objectively good. Sites like IGN loves using this mentality and goes down the Simpsons every week and just keep fueling this mess.

I have to admit Jake that this is true. I read in my tv guide that it gave "last tap dance in springfield" a five star review, and saying "another classic episode, etc etc) I personally don't like that episode for many reasons. It gives the simpsons a five or four star review for every episode it seems.

My tv guide used to do the same, right up to season 18, now it's mostly three stars every week.

I have to admit though that season 18 is the last season I naturally enjoy - Season 1-12 are naturally enjoyable, but when the Jean era hit the show became no longer did unexpected things, it followed a traditional sitcom format in OFF's case: small plot sets up big plot.

It wasn't as good as the first twelve seasons (I'm only counting the Scully era because they varied each week by wackiness, unexpectedly hilarous jokes and occassionally a good episode could be salvaged) because of this predictable trend.

Now after Jean has set up his "era" on the show and released the movie, at season 19 he probably thought after six long years, he should do something different with the show.

Honestly, it's undeniable that the show hasn't changed from season 19 with different plot structure (no longer a smaller plot setting up an episode), and different styles of plot that are unexpectably original and different (The Great Wife Hope, Apocalypse Cow, etc.), HD change and the 4 act format.

Yet, it's not enjoyable, all this reworked Jean era is overdue and frankly poorly done, working more in the "style" of the episode and how it is arranged, rather than controlling the emotions of the viewer and being refreshingly unpredictable.

Anyway, I didn't mean to waffle off - I honestly feel that the tv guide's base their opinions on how much they admire the show's accomplishments of withholding a long-running watchable show without changing the characters (majorly). But with the post-season 18 theory, they (well my guide at the very least) finds all the changes and quality differences so severe that what is felt of the show can't top what the show actually is...

My least favorite character is probably, hmm toughy, I don't really necessarily hate any of the characters on the show, but I'd have to say Helen Lovejoy.
if you want me, honey, baby, I'll be here

Uter to me is a rather pointless and bland character.

Nelson was right why can't this foreign exchange student go back to Germania?

Hey, hey, hey you asked us who are least favorite character was. Don't get all angry just for posting Lisa. She's been a real jerk this season. In the classic seasons she was great, I liked her along with Bart/Homer but now she's a real jerk.

I think I have to say the Blue-Haired Lawyer; he's most often rather irritating and sucks the fun out of anything with his "you can't do that without a permit" attitude.

Agnes Skinner and Blue Haired Lawyer (or as Bart refers to him as "Milhouse in a suit").
The reality is that both your post and his should be bannable offenses. Pure ignorance about the show's current-day content is just as offensive as wearing blinders to mediocrity and openly praising everything.
    - Brad Lascelle, even if I don't agree on a post like mine in which I did not watch a new episode of OFF and still give it a negative rating should result in banning

I agree that she's sucked this season, but I don't think she's been as terrible in past seasons.

What seasons are you thinking of? She's been meaner than Bart has been to her latley LOL. I mean a lot of the times this seasons she's picked on him, he didn't do any thing to her.

alright, fuck it, while we're at it, i'll just explain my opinion about lisa.
also, i want to show off my new sig.

anyway, like everyone else has said before, she was probably the greatest character, sensitive and human but at the same time a normal 8 year old, but then someone decided that, what the heck, if she's such a great person let's make her love the animals, and fight for the animals, and that's when everything went out of control. soon we go from sensitive yet childish to holier than thou hippie. she became an arrogant little bitch, quite annoying indeed. recently (season 20) however it seems that they tried to make her "normal" again, and exaggerated it, making her a bunch of pop-culture references and forgetting to remove the main problem, her arrogance and know it all-ness

    so yeah.
    look at my sig!

edit: hey where the fuck did my sig go?

Is this like when Moe was staring at the wall and when Bareny wanted to look, Moe wanted to charge him?
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

Maybe that's because you're talking about, oh, I dunno, this season? Never judge a Simpsons character on their post S8 actions. EVER.

Never? I didn't know we had to have rules for the least favorite character thread, my bad
Some people feel Lisas a good character, some feel she's bad. Just respect other peoples opinions folks.

And there is evidence to prove that she is both good AND bad, so no need to argue.

In my opinion, the worst characters are by far Selma, Patty, and Artie Ziff. I just hate them. Patty and Selma are not too awful bad, they are nice for just making appearences, but when the show revolves around them... I can't hardly watch it. Artie Ziff just makes me mad :l he is the only Simpsons character that I can say that about. He is just so asinine.

Patty and Selma offer an important dynamic... Homer has to deal with the dilemma of waiving his dignity in order to appease Marge, which is always interesting and IMO can be done in a number of ways that shed light in different angles on Homer and Marge's relationship, as well as each of them individually. Plus I just happen to believe P&S are great regardless of what they do for the characterization of OFF.

Ziff is a pain after a while though.

I understand what you are talking about, and that's what I meant when I said about them just making appearences (like when Homer owed them money, I forget which episode it was), that's fine with me. But shows like "Selma's Choice", etc... Can't stand them.

Haha, she really doesn't serve a person, does she? Except as filler material.

I find her quite amusing though

That was a good episode for her. Then she was crazy but funny.

After watching Great Wife Hope again, I really dislike some of her scenes. I mean, using her cats to bowl? The writers are willing to do anything for a laugh...

I find the Crazy Cat Lady very funny. I thought the joke in The Great Wife Hope, which I just watched, was hilarious.

It's too weird... what's next? The writers are going to have her throw her cats at people playing baseball? She's going to slam-dunk one? She's going to kick one and make a field goal? They just seem to be trying to hard {or little} to write scenes for her

I think her scenes are usually creative and fit well in the episode.

I'll give you that. They are beginning (have been for a long time) to cheapen up, not only her, but EVERY character.

Her only role as of recently I remembered liking was the explanation for why she is the way she is, in Springfield Up {I don't remember any appearances after season 18 for some reason, but I am sure there have been some}. Most of the time she just appears and it's usually not funny IMO
