    and

    pranks and greens
    rednecks and broomsticks
the good, the sad and the drugly
    mypods and boomsticks
    sex, pies and idiot scrapes

what is with the recent trend of "[A-PLOT] and [B-PLOT]" episode titles?

it gives the distinct impression that they think up the title before the story

    it's starting to annoy me

  2. #2

the writers think of a pun title and then write an episode around that title, if the main story can't have both things in the title they add a subplot

  3. #3

why cant they go back to titles like bart does this or homer is that.

Also, will they ever stop making episode titles out of "Mona Lisa"?

Why not do both? Bring on "Homer Gets a New Job and Lisa Still Can't Make Friends".

I would like to some titles with the Seinfeld/Curb your Enthusiasm-style. Just "The *insert object or event related to the plot*"

i've already said i'm not a fan of the recent titles. i do think it is very possible that they think of the episode names first then create the story

Same here. Their pun titles become less tolerable each passing season.

I agree with everything said in this thread. At first I thought, "this is the least of their problems anyway" but maybe if they stop making titles based around their puns they'll start thinking of plots for the show on their own and it will be great again. : )

Yep, the pun titles have been getting old for years.

Bring back "Homer gets drunk" and "Bart does something interesting"

What bothers me about the episode titles nowadays is that they often don't feel natural and they seem to increasingly be using the same ones. That being said, the titles are the least of my worries.

Simple, to-the-point titles like The Office has would be bland, but way fucking better than the puns.

"Lisa, the Drama Queen" = "New Friend"
"In the Name of the Grandfather" = "Ireland Trip"
"The Good, the Sad and the Drugly" = "Bart's Girlfriend" (...wait)

I really miss the "________ the ________" titles. Better times. I think the last non-pun title (excluding THOH, special episodes and "___vs____") was "Homer the Moe", nearly nine years ago. Shit...

Has anyone ever laughed at any of those titles?

    Seems pretty implausable.

must admit, i didn't really notice this "and" trend before. The titles are mostly only mildly funny.

I wouldn't really call it a 'special' episode. I mean, it has the standard opening, standard closing. It's just split into a few different stories. I believe that Simpsons Christmas Stories and Simpsons Bible Stories are the only 'trilogy' ones that don't even have a pun for a title (Wettest Stories Ever Told, Four Great Women and a Manicure, Love Springfieldian Style, etc)... I just dunno if I'd classify it as being anything other then a standard episode, especially considering they have wraparounds and all. That's just my reasoning anyway.

I'd consider all the punny trilogies to be loose standards, including Bible Stories since they have wraparounds. Christmas Stories does not, thus truly making it a special episode...

I'm not sure, but if not, they simply are meant to give a generic feel to the episode. Obviously an episode with the title "Marge Vs. The Board of Education" isn't going to be all about Bart making a new friend or Homer getting a new job.

Some might be parodies but I think they are just meant to give a vivid clue as to the episode
