Now that FOX will be airing Super Bowl XLV next year, I am hoping that they show a new Simpsons episode after that in order to regain viewer interest.
I am predicting that they will plus they will also air an episode of The (ugh!) Cleveland Show.

There have been post Super Bowl TV debuts that have been failures.
The second episode of Undercover Boss will help determine its later success.

I'm sure FOX won't air American Idol after the Super Bowl since it has been the highest rated prime time show in America for the last five years. They probably want to debut something, improve ratings on another show, or regain audience interest on another show.
When FOX releases the 2010-11 schedule, we can do better speculations.

You forget that Simon Cowell will leave AI, which will result in a huge ratings-drop.
Anyway, Super Bowl XLIV averaged 106.5 million viewers and is the highest-rated telecast in broadcasting history.
Undercover Boss averaged more than 30 million viewers and it was the highest-rated series premiere since 1987.
I forgot about that being a factor on a possible ratings decline. Simon Cowell leaving American Idol and being replaced could be the equivalent of Gordon Ramsey leavng Hell's Kitchen and/or Kitchen Nightmares and hiring someone to replace him.
I usually don't declare if a TV show "jumps the shark" until I see what has happened when the episode airs.

I don't get why people only watch cos of Simon. I mean yea, he's the "nasty, cruel" one, but that doesn't magically affect talent for upcoming years.

FOX is showing two episodes of Til Death every Sunday
It shows that FOX is finally giving up on that show by burning off two episodes during the Super Bowl.
According to episodes listings on msn.com they are burning off two more new episodes on March 7, the day of the Oscars.
In the Family Guy episode "Family Gay" Peter Griffin talks about FOX shoving Til Death down peoples throats. The gag involves horses being named after FOX shows.
Here's the Family Guy/Til Death gag:

But for now on, I am no longer talking about Til Death.

All right, new episode last Sunday, and this thime, there wore no Grammys, but there was the Olympics. And that might have hurt the show's numbers just like the Grammys did, though the Olympics and Fox's Animation Domination don't really aim for the same audience, so... You be the judge:
Fox – The Simpsons
Viewers: 5.87 million (#4), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#2t)
Fox – The Cleveland Show
Viewers: 4.85 million (#4), A18-49: 2.3/ 6 (#3t)
Fox – Family Guy
Viewers: 6.42 million (#3), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#3)
Fox – American Dad
Viewers: 5.23 million (#4), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3)
Another episode with less that 6 million viewers certainly isn't good news, but let's keep in mind that the Olympics attracted about 29 million people from 8 - 10pm. And Family Guy did relatively well compared to the other shows. At least this time The Simpsons managed to beat out American Dad in both viewers and the demo.
I knew FOX should not have shown new episodes opposite of the winter olympics due to their avoidance of that in 2006.
We end up getting really low ratings. Expect The Color Yellow to suffer the same fate.
FOX bid on the broadcasting rights to the 2010/2012 olympic package and lost to NBC who ended up paying too much. FOX must be trying to bankrupt the big three networks. I now wished FOX did not get outbid by NBC. I even wish now that FOX will win broadcasting rights to the 2014/2016 olympic package to prevent the scheduling of new episodes during the 2014 winter olympics.

From what I hear, Fox bid 1.3 billion dollars for the 2010 and 2014 winter olympics, but ultimately, NBC outbid Fox with their 1.7 billion dollar offer. NBC was probably sure that Fox was willing to pay a lot for the olympics, but they werent. Like you said, Fox probably tried to force NBC into wasting money. Never thought I'd say this, but that was really smart by Fox.
FOX only bid on the 2010 winter olympics and the 2012 summer olympics. American brodcasting rights to the 2014 winter olympics and 2016 summer have not been sold yet. However, there is a good chance FOX will bid on the 2014/2016 olympic package.

I'm glad so many people didn't see the episode. Any other I would care a lot more. Whilst it is sad it had low viewers, maybe they will start to pick up. plus competition

Aight homies, ratings for last sunday's The Color Yellow:
8:00 - The Simpsons - 6.082 (#4) - 3.0/8 (#2)
8:30 - Cleveland - 5.597 (#4) - 2.8/7 (#3)
9:00 - FG (repeat) - 6.299 (#4) - 3.1/7 (#4)
9:30 - American Dad - 5.643 (#4) - 2.8/6 (#4)
Simpsons bounce back to a healthy 3.0, that's ok, but a repeat of Family Guy still won the night. American Dad beat Cleveland again. Great news considering how much tougher the competition is at 9pm (Undercover Boss, Desperate Housewives).
A little better than last week but that's not saying much.
FOX still should've avoided airing new episodes opposite of the olympics.
Expect ratings to also be low for the rest of the season.
Next new episode (Postcards From The Wedge) airs in three weeks (March 14th)

typical "ratings don't matter guys, it's still not going anywhere" type things.
at least it did somewhat good though
a family guy repeat....

Fox actually brags with the (poor) performance of Animation Domination:
A gold medal performance from Tuesday’s AMERICAN IDOL and double-digit growth from Sunday’s animated originals of THE SIMPSONS, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, and AMERICAN DAD contributed to FOX’s weekly rating of 3.2/9 among Adults 18-49. In addition, Tuesday’s AMERICAN IDOL ranked as the No. 1 program of the week besting all Olympics telecasts among Adults 18-49. Despite tough competition this season from such major events as the Olympics and the Super Bowl, FOX remains the No. 1 network of the season and leads its closest competitor (CBS) by +12%.FOX had 4 of the Top 20 programs among Adults 18-49: AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY (No. 1), AMERICAN IDOL WEDNESDAY (No. 5), FAMILY GUY (No. 18) and THE SIMPSONS (No. 19).
FOX had 6 of the Top 20 programs among Adults 18-34: AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY (No. 1), AMERICAN IDOL WEDNESDAY (No. 3), FAMILY GUY (No. 11), AMERICAN DAD (No. 15 tie), THE CLEVELAND SHOW (No. 15 tie) and THE SIMPSONS (No. 17).
FOX had 8 of the Top 20 programs among Teens: AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY (No. 1), AMERICAN IDOL WEDNESDAY (No. 2), FAMILY GUY (No. 8), AMERICAN DAD (No. 9), THE CLEVELAND SHOW (No. 12), THE SIMPSONS (No. 14), HOUSE (No. 19 tie) and 24 (No. 19 tie).
FOX had 2 of the Top 20 programs in Total Viewers: AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY (No. 5) and AMERICAN IDOL WEDNESDAY (No. 9).At 8p THE SIMPSONS posted a 2.9/8 among Adults 18-49, up +12% from last week (2.6/7). THE SIMPSONS ranked No. 2 in its half hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens and No. 1 in Men 18-34. CLEVELAND at 8:30p did a 2.8/7 among Adults 18-49, up +17% from last week (2.4/6) while it ranked No. 3 in the time period among Adults 18-49 and No. 2 in Adults 18-34 and Teens.
An encore FAMILY GUY at 9p did a 3.2/7 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 4 in the half hour among Adults 18-49, No. 2 in Adults 18-34 and Teens and No. 1 in Men 18-34. At 9:30p AMERICAN DAD posted a 2.8/6 and was up +12% versus last week in Adults 18-49 (2.5/6). AMERICAN DAD ranked No. 4 in the time period among Adults 18-49, No. 3 in Adults 18-34, No. 2 in Teens and No. 1 in Men 18-34.

Sunday's finals:
The Simpsons (7:59pm, 31 minutes)
- 5.982 million viewers
- 3.4/5 HH
- 2.9/8 A18-49
The Cleveland Show
- 5.585 million viewers
- 3.2/5 HH
- 2.8/7 A18-49
Family Guy (R, 31 minutes)
- 6.317 million viewers
- 3.7/5 HH
- 3.2/7 A18-49
*I guess people didn't realize it was a repeat?*
American Dad (29 minutes)
- 5.661 million viewers
- 3.2/5 HH
- 2.8/6 A18-49

Like it or not the show is pretty consistent in what it offers. I guess that some people would rather watch a familiar episode than whatever Olympic garbage NBC was running at that time or what other networks run at 9.00pm on a sunday (I have no idea--I pretty much stick to Discovery now).
