Sorry if I came off a little judgemental and high-strung. I didn't mean to bash you. I'm just a little disturbed at the fact that quite a few people have said that they are sticking around because of loyalty (I, on the other hand, have pledged to cease active viewing if next season's premiere is anything like what we've seen this season). From your sports analogy, I assumed you were one of them.Originally posted by Sideshow Phil
Whoa, hey, slow down there Tex...I wasn't showing "blind loyalty" to the show inasmuch as I am not "one of the sheep" who you blame (in some small part) for the demise of the show. Don't blame me or other "sheep"-like viewers for the show's drop in quality. You blame the writing, and rightly so - I'm not cutting the writers slack as far as what is being put out there - just that this particular episode was good. I enjoyed it. That's my opinion - just as you have yours.
Your message indicates to me a sort of bitterness because you think the show is complete trash. Add to that your comments about writers on other shows working hard and not getting recognition, and I infer that there are other shows out there not doing as well ratings wise that you happen to enjoy. But that's your opinion. You can be bitter if you wish, but don't come down on me for having an opinion, and then bashing me for my opinion. I've seen that happen on far too many boards, and that turns people off very quickly.
Oh, and if the show's ratings dropped in half, IMO we wouldn't get a chance to see if the show would get better, that might be the last step before FOX drops the show. But with FOX being FOX, they may re-up just to have something fill the timeslot. I'm sure if the show were cancelled, you wouldn't have any problems at all.
That notwithstanding, I believe the ratings have encouraged the writers to the moronic depths the show has sunk into. I've seen TV shows and I've seen TV shows. In the history of television, no show has plunged with the speed The Simpsons have in so short a period of time.
You are correct when you say I'd have no problems with the show being cancelled. You know what? despite his retraction of previous statements, I don't think Matt Groening would slip into depression either.
