And Jonah, whatever you do, put the episode bio on the right. Your last four doubles had their bios on the left.

Kinda.... but didn't you notice that Bart just nodded his head after that so that she did have the last line in the scene of the simpsons. That was done on purpose to play at the fact that they were talking about a show and they were on the show.

I think he's just being (brutally) honest. If the worst episodes from earlier seasons could get Cs, then this ep would be a tad lower. Anyone who's gives A's and B's to episodes from this season is probably using other recent episodes as a grading reference.

I understand that, but still a D- as a high grade? He says it was better than most episodes this season but still gives it the second lowest grade you can give an episode. Season 13 hasn't been perfect but its been better than 'F's scattered with 'D-'s.

Yeah, but he was impling that Bart and Lisa were refering to "The Simpsons" itself, directly, which wasn't the case.

Anyway, I thought that joke worked. It got a laugh out of me.

    It was a two-layered joke:

    1) That Lisa wanted the last line in the "Angry Dad" comic.

    2) That Lisa wanted the last line in that scene of "The Simpsons." And she got it with Bart simply nodding his head.

Not really. She didn't want it, she just got it. Bart and Lisa probably never picked up on the fact that Lisa "got the last line" in that "scene".

    Tis a silly discussion, no?

I use the exact same grading scale I've always used for every episode. I did give Half-Decent Proposal an A- cause it was really a great episode. But along with Trilogy of Error and THOHVIII, those are my only A's past season 8.

Well, I was plesantly surprised by this episode, to say the least. I laughed at the majority of the jokes, er, and call me a complete wacko but I thought that whole "When Dinosaurs Get Drunk!" bit was really hilarious. The storyline was really cool as well, quite an improvement from the last few medicore episodes. Overall, I'd say it's a 4/5 or an A- for me. Woohoo.

    Random notes:

-Nice portrayal of Stan Lee. Definitely not misused. CBG conspicuously not annoying.
-All of the angry dad cartoons were HILARIOUS.
-The Dan Castellaneta look-alike doing Homer's voice. Cute.
-The 'what state does Danger Dog live in' thing. Granted, 'tis a meta-reference, but it was subtle enough to be funny.
-Jeff Jenkins, the animator, had a name that rang a bell to me. Then I remembered that there is/was a baseball player named Geoff Jenkins.
-imho, the Danger Dog 'toon didn't make a lot of sense-- they could have thought a little more into that.
-Didn't really care for how they had to 'turn up the volume' on Homer for this one, though.
-Props to Fox for scaring us on those promos. Thank goodness it was green paint.

All in all, one of the best this season (She of Little Faith being another). Unlike other episodes, nothing ruined it for me.

    Humph!

Forgive my grumpy manner. I just took a nostalgic trip to the archive, and I'm just a little peeved about how much everyone loved the ep. Sorry I cannot share your joy.

Well, if it is of any consolation, I didn't give this ep a high mark because of Homer, I gave it a 4.5/5 because of the CBG and Stan Lee scenes. Every time I laughed was when those two were on screen (and the other time was when Krusty asked for the animal "that keeps chomping his groin!").

Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

That's why I don't give rankings, grades or number reviews. I enjoyed this episode because it didnt piss me off like so many in the past few seasons. It's nothing like the old episodes, but it wasn't as bad as Saddlesore Galactica or Sweets and Sour Marge. Good God, those episodes sucked.

"I am Furious Yellow's" Stan Lee Scenes were quite funny because I remeber hearing him give his "Hey Spidey Friends!" lines before the Spiderman toons in the 80's. If Stan wasn't part of this episode (along with the CBG) and if it was only about Homer and Bart, this epiosde would've been a B-/C+ at best, IMO.

For, the "Nanny" ep, I'd say it was 4-4.5. (A-/A)

For the longest time, that episode was my second favorite episode of all time, but as the years passed, it fell down into my top 20.

The only thing I would have changed about the Stan Lee scenes, though, is that I would have given them an explanation. I mean, why was he there? Still, though, his guest appearance worked so well and was indeed hilarious.

I watched this episode again and noticed something odd about one of Bart's quotes. When Bart says "Come on, 'Angry Dad'. Get angry. Don't make me do a clip show.", his lips don't match after the word "angry". I believe they changed the dialogue to poke fun at the show and to show us fans we complain too much about the little things (most of us hated "Gump Roast", a clip show.). Yes, I understand they change dialogue sometimes and can't re-animate the scene, but this is one of those noticable moments. Anybody else notice it?

Hmm, didn't notice that. What do you think he was saying?

I don't usually like to talk about others, but does anyone else wonder why Jeff Feidler at www.frinky.com still watches the show or keeps writing reviews? Here's his review this week:

I'm sorry, "Furious Yellow" stunk. Stan Lee's part stunk (I really have to wonder at guest stars who willingly make a**es out of themselves on the show), the plot stunk (will Bart ever NOT be the most obnoxious character on the show?), and I only laughed once or twice, and even THOSE jokes were ripped off of "Family Guy." I've said it before, I'll say it again - I'm sick and tired of the slapstick humor. Having characters experience every kind of physical pain imaginable is just NOT FUNNY. Period. (Remember when the scripts were actually WITTY?) And this episode had WAY, WAY too much slapstick humor going on in it (especially the ending with Bart's elaborate trap, which was painfully unfunny). And, by the way, what gives with the bit of Moe stealing the car and catching it on fire? That was pathetic! Definitely the most forced moment of the episode! Grade: D

I've been reading his reviews all season and from what I can remember, they're about 30% F's, 50% D's, 15% C's, and 5% B's. Just wondering why people still which a show that they enjoy so little.

  27. #147

I agree with Feidler. This episode was HORRIBLE. I watched it with a group of friends, all big Simpsons fans, and not one person laughed. This episode, like so many others, reeked of Scully, and I have a feeling that if his name was attached to this episode the ratings would be lower. When I saw this, as with "Blame it on Lisa", all I could think was how low it was gonna be rated on here. I'd been surprised both times.

The Simpsons were referenced in that MWC episode
500 episodes, about 200 good ones.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
The episode "Whacking Day'' curiously aired the same day as Seinfeld's "The Contest'', which deals with a different kind of whacking.
