Glad you liked it. Weird about disc 2 though. I personally really liked the whole theme on this set ('cause games are excellent). I haven't been able to watch any special features yet, but I will do soon. Anyway, I loved this season. Probably a bit better than season 12.

My least favorite feature about this set is that they decided to use much thinner cardboard than seasons 11 and 12. Its a lot more flimsy and a lot more prone to bends and tears. I'm just gonna have to be extra careful to make sure it stays in great condition.

Indeed, though it wasn't really an isolated incident, I've had other DVDs do it as well. No biggie really.

If I were you, I'd just go online and buy a bunch of amarray cases like I did, they cost a mere 24p (was 22p when I bought them just after S12 came out). They fit nicely into the slipcase the set comes with (so the set wont look any different on the shelf), and the booklet fits in the case too. You have to buy them in batches of 10. So one batch would last until Season 20. :P

Are there interesting commentaries for S13 and if so, which ones?
Or are they all bland extra feature-filler and are the days of interesting commentaries long gone and forgotten?

I forgot to say that I just bought the DVD Yesterday, I've just finished the first disc (Not the commentaries I wait until the end then go from the start) and I've got to say it didn't have that many bad episodes

The Simpsons Season 13 DVD Review

After watching the episodes and admiring the art work I finally have a review for "The Simpsons Season 13 DVD". While watching this set I found them to be far more enjoyable than the last two seasons. I mean it's by no means a classic like the first eight seasons but there were some really enjoyable episodes. There are still some really bad episodes ("The Lastest Gun in Springfield" and "Gump Roast" to name a few)

    THE PACKAGING

    Cover - 84%
    Sides - 73%
    Back - 87%
    Cardboard inside - 93%

This set has some really good artwork and I love the purple they use.

    DISC 1

    A Token from Matt Groening - 72%

    Episodes - 81%

Treehouse of Horror XII - 73%

    Opening: 76%

A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love - 88%

    The Blunder Years - 82%

    Ralpisms - 87%

    Menu - 95%

    Disc - 85%

I think the episode on this disc are very underrated there are some real classics ("A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love") They people dancing on the menu were quite amusing and had catchy tunes. The extra's were pretty good but I didn't like the intro with Matt as much as the other sets.

    Score for Season 13 Disc 1 - 75%

    DISC 2

    Episodes -

She of Little Faith - 76%

    The Thirteenth Crewmen - 76%

    Sketch Gallery I - 69%

    Menu - 93%

    Disc - 87%

This disc was more successful than the last. The episodes were better and the extra's were pretty good. The menu wasn't as good but still great.

    Score for Season 13 Disc 2 - 81%

    DISC 3

    Episodes -

The Lastest Gun in the West - 66%

The Old Man and the Key - 64%

Tales from the Public Domain - 71%

    Filler: 79%

    Gump Roast - 64%

Blame it on the Monkeys - 69%

    The Games - 69%

    Menu - 83%

    Disc - 86%

The episodes on this disc vary from really boring ("The Lastest Gun in the West" and "The Old Man and the Key") to outrages plots ("Blame it on Lisa" and "Weekend at Burnsie's") The extra's were pretty bland but not that bad and the menu was OK.

    Score for Season 13 Disc 3 - 73%

    DISC 4

    Episodes -

    I Am Furious (Yellow) - 82%

    The Sweetest Apu - 76%

Out of curiosity, Comicshow, how exactly do you determine the exact percentage to give each episode, and what's the lowest good score?

Have not purchased the season yet, but put it on hold at the library while they were still cataloging it, so I'm the first one to watch this specific set out of them all in the system. I'll buy it eventually though.

The disc two features were interesting. Particularly the video game one, looking at all the Simpsons video games and whatnot. Out of all of them, I only played two-Road Rage and Hit & Run. I actually used to own Hit & Run, almost beat it. That was an awesome game.

I don't really like the characters on the side of the box and I like Ralph more.

EDIT: I EDITED THE REVIEW AND ADDED DISC 2

Still fourteen days before it gets released here in Belgium.
Not that they have to dub it, because 'luckily' there is no Dutch Simpsons dubbing. (except for the movie, which was totally weird as everyone was used to the English voices)

Is the feature about the videogames long and insightful or just a list of what was produced over the years in the land of bits and polygons regarding the Simpsons?

It's a decent length (just under ten minutes), and shows brief clips of all the games being played. Nothing else really.

Kinda disappointing. Feels like a missed chance.
They could've done some interviews with the development teams behind the recent games and talk about the level of involvement from the people behind the show.
Also, the voice actors could've done some explaining in which way voice-acting for the games differs from the regular voice-acting they do for the show.

Actually there is a dutch dub of the first 3 seasons. It aired from 1990-1992 and once more in 1996. Homer yelled "Sodeju!" instead of D'oh!. Not sure if it ever reached Belgium though, I understand the Simpsons premiered pretty late in Vlaanderen.

Yes, it was midnineties when they started airing the series over here.
And haha for the Dutch version of the Netherlands, it must've been cringeworthy.

I heard the last season of Lost is getting released around the same time as the Simpsons S13 in my country. Sorry, Homer and co, but you're not gonna win from the island. First I'll watch that last season before I re-enter the world of Angry Dad.

So today I finally bought a Blu-Ray player. (sorry, Jamie)

Anyone already compared the S13 dvd with the S13 Blu-Ray?

I haven't been able to compare a copy of both the S13 Blu-ray and DVD, but comparing the S13 Blu-ray to past seasons on DVD (mainly seasons 10 to 12 as they are virtually identical in regards to animation quality), the Blu-ray really does blow the DVDs out of the water with picture quality. The outlines on the characters are a lot sharper, the weird shimmering that happens at times with the outlines in past seasons is non-existent, if anything the only flaw is animation mistakes tend to stick out a little more. I commented in my review that Gump Roast is a good indicator of what past seasons would have looked like were they released on Blu-ray, and is the best way to compare with the DVDs - there is no doubt that scenes from episodes like Take My Wife, Sleaze and Little Big Mom look way better on this set than they do on their original DVD release (pre-Season 9 is where things get a bit fuzzy; the clips from Season 2 are kind of terrible to look at). If you're interested in the best picture quality possible at this time, definitely get the Blu-ray.

Ok, thanks. If the choice is provided in my country, I'll go for the Blu-Ray.

David Silverman just confirmed on his twitter! Season 14 commentaries are being recorded today!!

He's recording the Three Gays of the Condo commentary with Weird Al Yankovic (which is weird, since Silverman wasn't involved at all with season 14, minus the season 13 holdovers).

Seems like it will be DVD-only over here.
There goes my chance of seeing H-D Proposal in HD.
