first of all it doesn't look marginally better, it looks phenomonally better, you'd know if you'd seen it, second pretty much everything about the two formats is completely different

okay, first you keep saying they're COMPLETELY DIFFERENT but you've never explained how. last time i checked they're both discs you put in a disc reader with menus that you move through with a remote except one comes with DRM and costs more

second, you yourself said the simpsons would only look marginally better on blue ray. now you're saying it looks it looks phenomonally better. hypocrite much?

well other than all the other stuff i've mentioned they're read differently because the discs are multi-layered
and second i thought we were just talking about blu-ray in general now, not this simpsons blu-ray which, you're right would only look marginally better

I don't hate it at all, I just don't get a boner every time I see the words "blu-ray" written on a message board

Also, in this particular instance, since the picture quality will only be marginally better (and most of my dvd-viewing is on a non-HD tv anyway), I just have better uses for that extra 10 bucks than a format that won't bring me extra satisfaction

I have no hate for Blu-Ray, but I will definately be buying my Simpsons seasons sets in DVD format. Why? Well, I'm paying less, it matches the rest of my sets better, and I get more for the money. Ya, you heard me. MORE content for LESS money with DVD. 4 discs means 4 disc arts and 4 disc menus, whereas Blu-Ray will only get 3. I have an HDTV, but I see no need for Blu-Ray on a cartoon.

but if the disc art for the blu-rays is different, and in one of the write ups someone posted a few pages back i believe it said something about the blu-rays having more menu animation

Even if the disc art is different, I'd still prefer having 4 discs to 3. I really don't want to argue about which is better. Obviously Blu-Ray is a better picture, but I'll wait til it completely replaces DVD before I invest a bunch of money in buying everything Blu-Ray.

We appeal to our traditions. Watching something on DVD is more than satisfying for me, and yeah, Blu-Ray has a better picture, but I don't really care if I can see more gray hairs coming out of my favorite tv character's nose. I'll stick to the less expensive satisfying format. Like Wiggs said, when Blu-Ray takes over and perhaps the price goes down, then I'll evolve with our ever-so-quickly-changing technological lifestyle, but in the meantime I've struck a nice bond with my beloved DVD collection on my shelf and I'm not planning to fix what isn't broken.

By far my favourite feature on blu-ray. It's astounding.
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

I'll be getting the DVD version. Aside from the above mentioned perks, I also love the fact that my DVD will play in every friends home as well as on any computer AND has the ability to be easily ripped on the computer into an MP4 format for iPod viewing.

Marginally better picture is a lame perk.

Now Star Wars on Blu-Ray, thats another story... but Simpsons season 13? C'mon!

No blu ray listing on any uk sites (amazon, play etc) shame I wonder why fox is neglecting the UK of blus. Glee is getting the same treatment over here (dvd but no blu) and of course we never got season 20.

Since these episodes were not produced in Blu-Ray, I find there's no real good reason to get the blu-ray for this season. The first 7 episodes of season 20 on bluray aren't really significantly better in any meaningful way. The HD episodes look great though.

I get all my BRs for less than 12 used and have had no problems. As for DRM, who cares? Unless you plan on pirating and/or copying movies, again, who cares? If I wanted everything on a damn hard drive, I'd download all that shitty, sort-of "HD" content off XBOX live and the 'next' upgrade in resolution for consumers is at least 10 years off since there won't be any new material recorded (pixalwise) beyond 1080p. 3D is about the only real advance we'll be seeing before 2020.

BTW, DVDs 'are not the same' unless you're watching them on a Tube TV. Since I only owned a few Disney movies on DVD, I never had a sizable movie collection and BR is the first format I've 'invested' in and have no regrets. With the exception of Pixar Movies, DVDs look downright awful compared to Blu Ray. Upscaling is not really a factor.

Blu Ray is the better format if you have a TV over 40" and the players, as long as you don't need it connected to the internet, aren't really any more than 120 bucks. The movies? Shop amazon and the price is the same as buying a new DVD at your local retailer, hell a lot of movies are 15 bucks new.

since i don't have a blu-ray, I'm just gonna say i like dvds just fine.

anyways, i am really looking forward to the features. i hope they have good deleted scenes, the ones on s12 were mostly bad (before anyone says "of course they're bad they are deleted for a reason", for the hundredth time, most of them are only deleted because the episode was too long), i might listen to commentaries for some episodes, some of the commentaries i have watched were interesting. matt's intro may be good, i don't know why i just find it fun how he introduces us to what awaits us in the season.

You never know, he is a producer for all successive seasons. He may come back periodically like David Mirkin has.

Actually was dreading listening to Al Jean every episode. Maybe he'll say that sitting straight up when you wake up is really really hard for a tenth time.

Why don't we just make a 'Blu Ray Simpsons' thread so that this one can just go back to Season 13?

The thing is, Blu-ray really is superior to DVD. Yes, DVDs may be perfectly acceptable quality-wise, but once you see Blu-ray in all it's glory you just have to admit that it looks so much better. And I think people need to wait until Season 13 is released before saying it's not going to look any better on BD - who knows what Fox has done to the original material.
