i only really enjoy watching the classics on dvd - if there's a newer episode i want to watch, i usually catch it when it's on tv or watch it online somewhere.

on the subject of the arcade; part of me wishes they'd go with the school environment or something, because i can't see them having skinner featuring in a cover and it seems like too good an opportunity to miss. arcade doesn't equal ralph to me. who knows, maybe i'm wrong.

my name's andy, and i have some websites. i think they're quite good.

I really like the cover. Ralph is a great character and it looks cool.

I will probably get it on Blu-Ray. I bought S20 for Blu-Ray and I don't regret it. I really like the quality of the episodes. They look sharper and the sound is better quality.

I'm super excited, it's been a while since a Simpsons DVD came out that's actually WORTH buying. Hopefully this means bonus features and DVD menus (i like them but on the s20 set they are really bland and just... unappealing}. The only negative is probably going to be the packaging, but I can just place the discs somewhere else

I'm probably gonna get this on DVD instead of Blu-Ray. The picture quality and sound quality may be better on Blu-Ray, but I don't want to lose the extra disc. 4 discs means 4 different disc artworks. Also, I definately don't want to give up the episode booklet. Lets hope that they decide to put a decent booklet in the DVD and the Blu-Ray.

I care nothing about disc art, and the increase in quality between the DVD and bluray will likely be negligible since these are not HD episodes

What I do care about, however, is the price, ensuring that I will purchase the DVD version

Looking forward to this. I have very fond memories of season 13 and found it still had a number of memorable, fresh stories to tell, as well as a few episodes that are almost "classics", even if they don't stand up to the golden era quite as well. "Little Girl in the Big Ten", "Weekend at Burnsies", "I Am Furious Yellow", "The Bart Wants What It Wants", "She of Little Faith", and "Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge" were all fun episodes. The season had a few clunkers like "The Blunder Years", "Homer the Moe", "The Parent Rap", "Gump Roast" and "The Lastest Gun in the West", but all in all, it was an interesting and memorable season.

Odd choice of Ralph for the cover. I feel as though he only actually appears in a total of 2 minutes out of the whole season.

Also glad to get closer to season 14's release, since that's my favorite season (along with 16) since season 9.

I'd buy it, but more for a sense of completion than the quality of the episodes.

    Yay for information!

I like ralph on the cover but what is it parodying? Krusty and CBG were both parodying something.

August 24th for US probably means september or novemeber here in Australia, very excited.
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

More than likely September. Back when Fox used to release the seasons in August and December in the US they always came out September (for the August release) and March the following year (for the December release) in Australia.

You never know. Season 8 had two different sets of disc artwork for the exact same DVD set. It's not unprecedented for Fox to release more than one set of disc art for a Simpsons season. The blu-ray might receive totally different disc art to the DVD, then what'll you do?

    fuck finally.

one of my most nostalgic yet polarizing seasons. it has almost as many terrific episodes as it has just god-awful trainwreck episodes.

at this rate it looks like it will be 2013 when I can finally stop collecting simpsons seasons. I was eagerly awaiting the three fully decent jean seasons.

and tomacco: seriously, no love for s15?

edit: hahahahaha blu-ray what the fuck?!

From the few reviews I've bothered to read, the standard definition episodes in Season 20 were upconverted for BD, and apparently they still looked better than their DVD counterparts. Of course it's not true HD in the slightest, but I'll probably get the BD just to see how they handle it - it's not like it will look worse.

it helps that those episodes were digitally processed and inked in that process as well, allowing for a smoother up-conversion.

aside from some sharper lines and mostly extremely subtle, unnoticeable shit, the difference will be microscopic and not worth an extra twenty or so bucks at all. less discs is the only benefit I could possibly see.

Hey, if the BD doesn't have that damn accordion packaging then it has everything going for it.

Really? I have the ones that mimic a camera lens with the various Simpson family members inside (Lisa & Maggie on disc 1, Marge, Bart and Homer each on their own discs). What was the design on the other set?

The other version has the family members holding up fingers corresponding to what disc they're on (for example, Homer holding up four fingers to say he's on disc 4).

Here's a post from the Season 8 DVD thread from all those years ago describing it better:

Yeah, especially when there didn't seem to be any correlation between the kind of packaging you got (head or standard box) and the type of discs you got, regardless of the packaging it was still a 50/50 chance of getting either disc art.

All I know is I wanted the finger discs but got the other bland ones

About S13 though, hopefully it means Fox will give Blu-ray owners unique art and not just throw on the art from, say, the first three DVD discs.

I think it's fair to assume that whichever secondary character appears on the most merchandise and is the most popular will be next in line for season 14 onwards. It has little to do with their prominence in the season and more to do with their marketability.

Burns, Moe and Apu are basically a lock for 14, 15 and 16.

How does this theory explain the use of Comic Book Guy for S12?

I don't get people saying they are not going to buy this but claim to be fans. Why the hell would you buy the first twelve seasons and then stop?

perhaps they are fans of Seasons 1-12 and not fans of Season 13.

unless you want to argue that you have to be a fan of The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed if you're actually a fan of The Simpsons

Because even if you're a fan of only the earlier seasons then you're still a fan - you don't have to like everything they make. What's the point in buying Season 13 if you only like up to Season 12, for example? A fan is someone that appreciates something - it doesn't mean they have to like EVERYTHING to do with it though. There are many members here that stopped buying the seasons after 9 and 10 (some even earlier). It doesn't mean they're not a fan though, they're just not a fan of the later stuff.

Regardless of how you or others deeply rooted in Simpsons fandom feel towards CBG, there's no doubting that the general public loves CBG. Take note of the countless times he appears in Bongo Comics, the price hikes of his toys and popularity of his quotes and catchphrase. CBG sells.
