The Complete Thirteenth Season DVD Collector's Edition: The Official Thread

    Treehouse of Horror XII (#CABF19 / SI-1219) 6 Nov 2001
-"Hex and the City" - Following a gypsy's curse, Homer becomes Death incarnate as everyone in his presence either dies or mutates, and he must catch a leprechaun in order to lift the curse.
-"House of Whacks" - a Hal 9000-style home automation computer takes a fancy to Marge, and unfortunately sees fit to dispose of Homer in the process. Guest stars Pierce Brosnan and Matthew Perry.
-"Wiz Kids" - the children are tutored in the fine art of transforming frogs into princes at the Springfield Elementary School for Wizards,
    a la Harry Potter.

    The Parent Rap (#CABF22 / SI-1222) 11 Nov 2001
Bart appears in court to pay for an embarrassing joy ride in the police chief's patrol car. But just before he is set free, a second, vindictive judge named Constance Harm assumes the case and sentences him to the worst kind of detention imagineable: being tethered to Homer around the clock. Guest stars Jane Kaczmarek as Judge Harm.

    Homer the Moe (#CABF20 / SI-1220) 18 Nov 2001
After Moe heads for a bartending school to brush up his business skills, Homer is charged with keeping tabs on Springfield's premiere watering hole. But when Moe decides to make his tavern over into something more hip and modern, a disgruntled Homer opens his own bar in the Simpson family garage. Guest stars R.E.M.

    A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love (#CABF18 / SI-1218) 2 Dec 2001
Homer's new job as the author of fortune cookies assures Mr. Burns that love is on the horizon. Mr. Burns finds it in a woman named Gloria, whom he loves so much that he wants to marry. But as he proposes to Gloria, her ex shows up - which happens to be Snake, and he's just broken out of prison. Guest stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and George Takei.

    The Blunder Years (#CABF21 / SI-1221) 9 Dec 2001
A restaurant hypnotist causes Homer to relive a traumatic childhood experience where, upon swimming in a quarry, he found a dead body. That dead body turned out to be Waylon Smithers' father, Waylon Sr., who had disappeared twenty-five years earlier under suspicious circumstances. Meanwhile, Marge fancies Chad Sexington, the man who appears on the packaging of Burly paper towels. Guest stars Paul Newman, Judith Owen, and Joe Mantegna.

    She of Little Faith (#DABF02 / SI-1302) 16 Dec 2001
Desperate for money, the First Church of Springfield decides to rent out its wallspace to local advertisers. Horrified at the living commercial the church has become, Lisa withdraws herself from the church and converts to Buddhism. Richard Gere guest stars, as himself.

    Brawl in the Family (#DABF01 / SI-1301) 6 Jan 2002
When a Monopoly game goes sour, the Simpsons are forced to undergo the supervision of a social services officer to reinforce the ideals of a functional family. Guest stars Jane Kaczmarek as Judge Harm and Delroy Lindo as Gabriel the Angel.

    Sweets and Sour Marge (#DABF03 / SI-1303) 20 Jan 2002
When Springfield is named the "World's Fattest Town", thanks to a diabolical scheme by the Motherloving Sugar Corporation, Marge takes it upon herself to rid the entire town of the sweet stuff. Guest stars Ben Stiller as Garth Motherloving.

    Jaws Wired Shut (DABF05 / SI-1305) 27 Jan 2002
Homer breaks his jaw in an accident, requiring it to be wired shut for a month. His resulting inability to talk makes him a better listener, and he becomes closer to family and friends because of it. They all like the new Homer much better, but when the wires come off and Homer retains his new attitude, everyone begins to miss the old Homer's antics.

    Half Decent Proposal (DABF04 / SI-1304) 10 Feb 2002
Marge, with a little help from Patty, Selma, and Jack (Daniels), E-mails Artie Ziff, who offers $1,000,000 for a weekend ("no funny business") alone with her - money they could use for an operation to make Homer stop snoring. Jon Lovitz reprises his role as Artie Ziff.

    The Bart Wants What it Wants (DABF06 / SI-1306) 17 Feb 2002
Bart develops a crush on Ranier Wolfcastle's daughter Greta. After hastily deciding he's not ready for love, he dumps her, only to change his mind later. But by then Greta only has eyes for one - Milhouse - and a trip to the set of Ranier's latest movie in Canada isn't enough to win her back. Guest stars Reese Witherspoon as Greta, and Wolfgang Puck as himself.

    The Lastest Gun in the West (DABF07 / SI-1307) 24 Feb 2002
Bart and Lisa meet a washed-up movie star of westerns from the 1950s and attempt to revive his career by getting him to appear on the Krusty the Klown show. But years of alcohol abuse get in the way. Dennis Weaver guest stars.

    The Old Man and the Key (DABF09 / SI-1309) 10 Mar 2002
Grandpa Simpson re-applies for his driver's license in order to impress a woman who moves into the Retirement Castle. Guest stars Olympia Dukakis and Bill Saluga.

    Tales from the Public Domain (DABF08 / SI-1308) 17 Mar 2002
In a variation on "Simpsons Tall Tales", the Simpson family portray mythological and medieval characters.
"The Odyssey" - Homer takes on Homer, as he plays Odysseus.
"Joan of Arc" - Lisa takes on the role of Joan, leading the French to victory over the English, then being sentenced to death. But Marge, not one for tragedy, changes the ending to something more pleasant.
"Hamlet" - Homer asks Bart to avenge his death, but he kills the wrong man, leading to widespread murder and suicide, and boredom of the real Homer, who would rather think about Ghostbusters.

    Blame it On Lisa (DABF10 / SI-1310) 31 Mar 2002
Lisa sponsors a South American orphan - and when the child is reported missing, the Simpsons go to Brazil to find him.

    Weekend at Burnsie's (DABF11 / SI-1311) 7 Apr 2002
After being attacked in the garden by an unruly group of crows, Homer goes to see Dr. Hibbert about the ongoing pain in his eyes. Dr. Hibbert suggests that Homer begin smoking marijuana for medicinal purposes. Guest stars Phish.

    Gump Roast (DABF12 / SI-1312) 21 Apr 2002
The Springfield Friars Club roasts Homer, with help from clips from past episodes..."but don't call it a clip show".

    I Am Furious Yellow (DABF13 / SI-1313) 28 Apr 2002
Bart creates an Internet cartoon entitled "Angry Dad" that's based on Homer - who then becomes a laughing stock. Marvel Comics' Stan Lee guest stars as himself.

    The Sweetest Apu (DABF14 / SI-1314) 5 May 2002
Apu's unbearable life of work and eight kids drives him to have an affair with another woman, and when Manjula finds out, Apu will have to do everything it takes to win her back.

    Little Girl in the Big Ten (DABF15 / SI-1315) 12 May 2002
In order to avoid a failing grade in gym, Lisa takes up gymnastics, which she uses to pose as a college student. Meanwhile, Bart is diagnosed with "Panda" virus and is forced to spend a week living in a plastic bubble. Guest stars Robert Pinsky.

    The Frying Game (DABF16 / SI-1316) 19 May 2002
Homer is sentenced to community service after nearly killing a rare insect found in his backyard pond. While working in a Meals on Wheels program, Homer befriends an elderly old woman. When the woman is thought to be dead, Homer and Marge become murder suspects after being named the sole beneficiaries of her will. Homer is convicted and sentenced to the death penalty, but just before he is scheduled to die in the electric chair, it is revealed that he's a contestant on a new reality show called "Frame Up" and the old woman is alive and well. Guest stars Carmen Electra.

    Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge (DABF17 / SI-1317) 22 May 2002
Homer accidentally causes an electrical blackout in Springfield, and all of the citizens begin looting the town's businesses. Chief Wiggum is useless at restoring order, so Homer takes the law into his own hands and becomes a policeman. Joe Mantegna reprises his Fat Tony role yet again. Season Finale.

I am hoping that we get back to two-a-year releases. But most likely this will be another 12 month wait

Copied from the season 12 thread:

I believe that a secondary female character will NOT feature. Think about the most likely possible: Edna Krabappel, Patty & Selma... um... anyone else? I'm certain Hoover and Sheeri & Terri would never feature. Agnes Skinner, Manjula and Helen Lovejoy might only appear on a cover if their husband/son is featured (most likely). There are MANY male characters deserving: Moe, Flanders, Ralph, Apu, Bob and Burns being the top candidates. My money is on the color GREEN for season 13 and the character being Flanders. My second choice is YELLOW and Apu (his brown skin would contrast the yellow background, and yellow has yet to be a color).

    1-5 couch gags

    6-10 family

    11-15 secondary characters

    16-20 ??couples??

My idea for season 13 cover art:

Green backround, Apu with slushi that says "13" on it

Season 10 had a yellow box, but I would either like to see Apu, Moe or Ned on the box for season 13. Maybe Gil for season 13 since it's an unlucky number and Gil and luck are like water and fire

I would say that Season 10 was more of a orange, but whatever.

yea orangish kinda gold though. I don't know, but Apu with the family in the Kwiki Mart with 13 written in spilled squishi would be cool or Moe with the whole family at Moe's maybe playing pool and Homer at the bar with 13 written on a frosted mug like said on page 1

I want Season 13 to either feature Apu or Mr. Burns.

    Seasons 1-5: Couch gags
Seasons 6-10: Family (with die-cut windows)
    6: Homer/Who Shot Mr. Burns?
    7: Marge/Movie Premiere
    8: Maggie/Family Photos
    9: Lisa/Concert
    10: Bart/FOX Studio Tour

I don't see the current theme ending at 15. There are too many secondary characters to feature just 5!

    Seasons 11-20+: Secondary characters
    11: Krusty/Krustyland
    12: Comic Book Guy/Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con
    My guesses:
Flanders/Springfield Mall or Church or Church picnic
Ralph/Springfield Elementary or a magical fantasy world
    Moe/Moe's
    Burns/SNPP
    Grandpa Simpson/Retirement Home
Skinner or Krabappel/Springfield Elementary or a Science Fair
    Apu/Kwik-E-Mart
    Chief Wiggum/Springfield Police Dept
    Frink/Invention Expo
    Sideshow Bob/Springfield Penitentiary

    Here's what I want:

    Season 13: Apu
    Season 14: Flanders
    Season 15: Mr. Burns
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

    Everything happens for a reason.

Just be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.

Don't worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.

I think the seasons 6 - 10 themes could be media in general and season 11 started with the Simpsons in other media than television (The Simpsons Ride, comics, (video) games, DVDs, music, cinema...).

    Treehouse of Horror XII:
Hex in the City: A little dull, but still funny. B-/B
House of Whacks: A great idea with superb execution and it's very funny. A
Wiz Kids: A great Harry Potter parody. A-/A
    Overall: A-

The Parent Rap: This episode has some wacky things in it, but it's pretty funny (IMO). B+/A-

Homer the Moe: I don't understand the hate for this episode. I think it's a great Homer/Moe plot with great humor. A-

A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love: I haven't seen this one in awhile, but I remember finding funny things in it and I remember a good plot. B+

The Blunder Years: A great mystery with funny gags. A-/A

She of Little Faith: Lisa is a little annoying and the plot is a little dull, but I remember some good moments. B-/B

Brawl in the Family: The plot is all over the place, but it's still funny and a nice sequel to Viva Ned Flanders. B

Sweets and Sour Marge: A great Marge episode because it has a funny plot and many funny gags. A-

Jaws Wired Shut: A weird episode, but it's funny. B+

Half Decent Proposal: A great way to bring Artie back and the plot is good and there are funny gags. A-/A

The Bart Wants What it Wants: Funny, but the plot is a little less than spectacular. B

The Lastest Gun in the West: I don't understand the hate for this episode. i think it's a great, funny episode. B+

Tales from the Public Domain: Average trilogy episode. If you like these episodes, you should like this one. If not, you shouldn't. B

Blame it On Lisa: Best of the season. It's a fast-paced, funny vacation episode. A

Weekend at Burnsie's: Funny episode, but it goes downhill a little in the third act. B/B+

Gump Roast: Dull clip show, but there's a good song at the end. C-C

I Am Furious Yellow: Plot isn't very special, but the episode has its moments. B

The Sweetest Apu: Funny Apu episode. B+

Little Girl in the Big Ten: Pretty dull plot and the third act feels out of place, but even mediocre episodes have their moments. C/C+ (Might change after rewatch.)

The Frying Game: A great idea with good emotion and the ending is funny. A-

Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge: A great, funny Homer episode to end the season. A-/A

Overall: Not as good as season 12, but still a funny season. B+/A-

Burns and Apu are likely candidates for season 13. Burns features in 2 episodes (Hunka Hunka and Weekened at Burnsie's) while Apu features in one (Sweetest Apu). While I believe Burns is deserving, Apu would be a nice change of pace from all the yellow skinned characters. Think of it as affirmative action in DVD packaging.

I like to rate episodes based on the other episodes within the season. I'm not comparing these to the classic era just as I am not comparing them to season 20.
    My mini-reviews/opinions:
Treehouse of Horror XII - one of the weaker THOHs, I did enjoy the first and second segments but they were still to bland. The Harry Potter parody would have benefited from having more Potter in-jokes rather than light parody. C+

The Parent Rap - Funny concept and episode, but Judge Harm is one of my most hated characters. B-

Homer the Moe - One of the weaker Moe episodes, but a decent Moe episode nonetheless. B

A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love - Again, a weak secondary character story, but still a fun Burns episode. B

The Blunder Years - I've always liked this one. It's rare that we see this period of Homer's life, and I liked Smithers backstory. B+

She of Little Faith - A major change to Lisa story, one of the better episodes of the season. B+/A-

Brawl in the Family - Bleh! A decent story ruined by an unnecessary return of the Vegas wives. C+/B-

Sweets and Sour Marge - A wacky but fun episode. I love fat people jokes. A-

Jaws Wired Shut - A (mostly) sweet story with an unfortunate wacky ending. B

Half-Decent Proposal - A welcomed return of Artie, Jon Lovitz is gold! B+

The Bart Wants What It Wants - Cute Bart girlfriend episode, rare to see Wolfcastle featured so prominently. B+

The Lastest Gun in the West - Felt like it was a script meant for another TV show, like Recess or NickToons. While enjoyable, I found this one too out of place. C

The Old Man And The Key - I'm a Grandpa SImpson fan so I liked this one. Bonus points for bringing back Gloria of Hunka Hunka Burns in Love, nice continuity. A-

Tales From The Public Domain - Meh. C+, B for Hamlet segment

Blame It On Lisa - Weak travel episode (though not as bad as Simpsons Safari). C+

Weekend at Burnsie's - Despite the controversy, this was one of my favorites of season 13. A-

Gump Roast - Awkward, uneven, unfunny. C-

I Am Furious Yellow - My favorite episode of the season! Stan Lee, Hulk, internet comics, Comic Book Guy! A

The Sweetest Apu - This season is FILLED with decent, but not great, secondary character episodes! Here's another, it's good to see the party animal Apu return. B

Little Girl In The Big Ten - A funderful episode, my third favorite of 13. A-

The Frying Game - Utter shite. C-

Papa's Got a Brand New Badge - The mob and Maggie bring this up to a B+

    Total: B
Compared to the classic era: C-
Compared to the post-classic era (seasons 10-20): C

    My opinion (/20) :

Treehouse of Horror XII 12 3 stories correct, better THOH than the previous one.
The Parent Rap 3 Very bad scenario, few gags. And I don't like Judge Harm.
Homer the Moe 8 Especially for the scenario, which is far from great.
A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love 12 Episode correct, although Burns was known in better shape.
The Blunder Years 14 Finally an episode nice to see in this season.
She of Little Faith 11 Not the worst episode with Lisa.
Brawl in the Family 15 A good suit of Viva Ned Flanders, although I prefer the first half of the episode.
    Sweets and Sour Marge 15
Jaws Wired Shut 8 The idea is not bad, but the episode never really takes off.
Half-Decent Proposal 8 I'm not a fan of Artie Ziff, but it's still better than The Ziff Who Came to Dinner.
The Bart Wants What It Wants 10 Average.
The Lastest Gun in the West 4 Worst episode written by John Swartzwelder.
The Old Man and the Key 9 Some good gags, but too much clutter scenario.
Tales From the Public Domain 13 Best episode 3 stories with Simpsons Bible Stories.
Blame It On Lisa 12 Correct, nothing more.
Weekend at Burnsie's 11 Fortunately, Burns is there, otherwise ...
Gump Roast 2 Very bad scenario, few new gags, extracts not all well chosen.
I am Furious Yellow 11 Decent episode.
The Sweetest Apu 5 Bad scenario, few gags. And I hate Manjula !
Little Girl in the Big Ten 9 Episode overrated. The story of Bart is bad.
The Frying Game 13 Even if you guess that Homer doesn't die, the episode is very correct.
Papa's Got a Brand New Badge 16 Best episode of this season. Very good scenario and successful gags.

Worst season ever !! Fortunately, seasons 14 to 16 are better.

    Season Rankings : 7 > 5 > 6 > 8 > 4 > 9 > 3 > 2 > 10 > 15 > 16 > 1 > 11 > 14 > 12 > 20 > 18 > 17 > 19 > 13.

The Simpson family goes to an event/place.
Note the image of the family entering Krustyland to the family entering the comic con.

    I tought about Simpsons media:

Season 20 would be great for a HDTV theme. This would also be when we'd start seeing Simpsons Blu-Ray discs. Season fifteen could have an animation theme.

Which is why science fair would be a great option, Skinner or Frink would be great for that! Flanders and the mall would work in this format as well.

I really want Apu, Moe, or Chief Wiggum for this season.

This would make for a cool Wiggum cover, though I don't think they'll have two fat white guys in a row.

Not exactly excited for this Season, but it has a few decent eps and I'll be getting it none the less. I'm thinking a Moe cover would be good, with a theme of Moe's Tavern and fold out bar inside. Also I really hope this one comes out sooner, I don't want to have to wait another year for this...
