    Season 10

I can't understand why so much people I know consider season 10 as one of the worst seaons... I watched almost every episode , and loved almost every one of them.
    The good ones:
When you dish upon a star
    D'oh-in in the wind
    Lisa gets an A
    Homer Simpson in: "Kidney Trouble"
    Mayored to the Bob
    Wild Barts can't be broken ( #1 )
Marge Simpson in: 'Screaming Yellow Honkers' ( #3 )
    Maximum homerdrive ( #2 )
    Simpsons bible stories
    Mom and pop art

    The Bad ones:
    Viva Ned flanders
    Monty can't buy love
    Homer to the max

The other ones are either normal or I didn't watch them.

Can anyone who hates this season explain to me why?
    Thanks from now guys

I don't hate this season at all, I consider it to be a really good one as a matter of fact.
Sure, there are a few poorly designed plots like 'Monty can't buy me love' and 'When you dish upon a star', but most of the episodes are really good.
    Good Episodes:
    'Lard of the Dance'
    'The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace'
'Treehouse of Horror IX' (Funniest THOH)
    'Lisa Gets an 'A''
    'Mayored to the Mob'
    'Viva Ned Flanders'
    'Homer to the Max'
    'I'm with Cupid'
'Marge Simpson in: 'Screaming Yellow Honkers''
    'Maximum Homerdrive'
    'Mom and Pop Art'
    'They Saved Lisa's Brain'

Wow! I'm surprised how many episodes I like, I guess this is one of my favorite seasons

The only season 10 episodes I don't like are Lard of the Dance, Wild Barts Can't Be Broken and They Saved Lisa's Brain. I think the reason why people don't like it is because it's wackier. However, I actually like the wackiness for a change.

You really do have an unpopular opinion.

    Classics

    Wild Barts Can't be broken
    D'oh in the wind
    Lard of the Dance
    Mayored to the Mob

    Good quality

    Wizard of Evergreen Terrace
    Bart the Mother
    They saved lisa's brain
    Mom and pop art
    TOH IX
    Lisa gets an A

    Meh

    Simpsons Bible stories
    Homer to the Max
When you dish upon a star

    Poor

    I'm with cupid
Marge simpson in "screaming yellow honkers"
    Maximum Homerdrive
    Homer simpson in Kidney trouble
    Monty can't buy me love
    Viva ned flanders

Overall it is a pretty big step down from season 9, which was just a pit off shape overall.

As I said earlier, I think that season 10 is the last of the golden age, last classic season. It still contains many good episodes and not a lot of bad.

    Maximum Homerdrive 18
    Mom and Pop Art 18
    Mayored to the Mob 17
    Thirty Minutes over Tokyo 17
    Lisa Gets an "A" 17
Homer Simpson in : "Kidney Trouble" 16
The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace 16
    Treehouse of Horror IX 15
Wild Barts Can't Be Broken 15
    Viva Ned Flanders 15
    Lard of the Dance 14
    Homer to the Max 14
    Simpson Bible Stories 13
    Bart the Mother 13
When You Dish Upon a Star 12
    Sunday, Cruddy Sunday 12
Monty Can't Buy Me Love 11
The Old Man and the "C" Student 11
    D'oh-in in the Wind 10
Marge Simpson in: "Screaming Yellow Honkers" 10
    They Saved Lisa's Brain 8
    Make Room for Lisa 8
    I'm with Cupid 7

What makes it classic. What for you makes a good episode. What do you rate it on? There are at least 3 or 4 Jean seasons better than 10.

Though it wasn't one of their better seasons I still think it was good and in my opinion, the last classic season before it REALLY went downhill, but thats just me

For me, a good episode contains a good scenario, a lot of good gags, and makes me have a good moment. And a "season classic" must contain many successful episodes and little bad.
For me, this is the case of season 10.

This fragment of the season explains perfectly my thoughts about it:

When You Dish Upon A Star 4.5/10
    D'oh-in In The Wind 9/10
    Lisa Gets An 'A' 10/10
Homer Simpson In "Kidney Trouble" 5.5/10
    Mayored To The Mob 10/10
    Viva Ned Flanders 5/10
Wild Barts Can't Be Broken 10/10 and Best Episode
Sunday, Cruddy Sunday 4/10 and Worst Episode
    Homer To The Max 6/10

Nine consecutive and discontinous weeks in terms of quality. I think that season 10 is, above all, irregular. I don't hate it as much as Jake and the chilliman but it has to deal with that reality. It's not terribly bad, not even really bad in the strict sense, but it gives six of one and half a dozen of the other. Sometimes classic memorable stuff, sometimes painfully dull (if not terrible at all).
Season 21 ratings (A.K.A. Qwert's Generic Sig Vol. II)

Homer The Whopper 7/10 Bart Gets A 'Z' 8.5/10 The Great Wife Hope 9/10 Treehouse Of Horror XX 9.17/10
The Devil Wears Nada 9.5/10 Pranks And Greens 6.5/10 Rednecks And Broomsticks 7.5/10 Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou? 8.5/10
Thursdays With Abie 5.5/10 Once Upon A Time In Springfield 10/10 Million Dollar Maybe 4.5/10 Boy Meets Curl 6/10
The Color Yellow 9/10 Postcards From The Wedge 9.5/10

Great post and I agree entirely.

I think something to remember as well is that what made The Simpsons great is that it was at once insightful, emotional, clever, funny and wrapped up into a neat 22 minute bun. By season 10 several of these pillars had come undone. It was no longer insightful - it was instead about Homer regularly going on some kind of whacky adventure and developing some kind of whacky scam.

There's nothing clever about painting eggs or going on a trip to see some football. These things aren't inherently bad, but in season 10 they're underdeveloped and left as they are. An example: Twenty Minutes Over Tokyo sees the family engage in some whacky antics and go on a crazy Japanese TV show while making some great cultural jabs. Compare that to the classic, Bart v Australia where we see the same, but at its core it's a story about Bart (who was at that time, still a bit of a Dennis-the-Menace type icon) terrorising an entire country. Classic episodes had something to say an addition to being clever, funny, ra ra ra.

I could go on but I think I've hit at the core: There's nothing especially bad about season 10 but it is, at its best, irregular and mediocre. It was still a great show, but it's nothing compared to what The Simpsons could have been.

Sadly, the only place where blame can be placed is upon the self-professes laziness of the showrunner, where everything was "aaaah, good enough!"

    GREAT:
    Mayored To The Mob
    Make Room For Lisa
    Wild Barts Can’t Be Broken
    Treehouse of Horror IX
    GOOD:
    Maximum Homerdrive
    Lisa Gets An A
    Viva Ned Flanders
    D’oh-in the Wind
    Homer to the Max
    Sunday Cruddy Sunday
    Mom and Pop Art
    I’m With Cupid
    The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace
    Bart the Mother
The Old Man and the “C” Student
When You Dish Upon a Star
    Lard of the Dance
    AVERAGE:
    Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo
Marge Simpson in: Screaming Yellow Honkers
    They Saved Lisa’s Brain
    BAD:
    Monty Can’t Buy Me Love
    Homer Simpson in: Kidney Trouble
    Simpsons Bible Stories

So overall it's a reasonably good season, but when it comes so close after the classic era, it's hard to see it as a good season. But when you compare it to season like 19 and 20, it's certainly nothing close to a bad season

Agreed...I think it's underrated because it's always compared to the best years of the show. The Jean years are overrated because they're compared to Scully years.

    You're totally right.
The Best years of the show are awesome , and the " not " best years of the show are great.
I think that some don't like this season because they compare it to other seasons. If they don't compare any season to the show's best year, most of the people will see that all simpson seasons are great.

By the way, it's the first thread I post which gets more than 2~3 post.

My personal opinion of Season 10 is that it's one of the weaker seasons of the series, not because of a plethora of outright crap (one bottom 5 episode and two other very bad ones) but because there were very few standout episodes. I haven't formally gone through and graded the season yet, but there would only be two, maybe three 15s, and while there would be quite a few episodes in the 12-14 range, that is for me a very low number of fantastic episodes in a season (for example, 12 may have more crappy episodes, but its best episodes are better than anything in Season 10, IMO).

IMO, Seasons 10-12 are the same season spread over three years, filled asshole Homer and where he's the star of 2/3rds of all the episodes. I'd take Seasons 13-16 over the Scully Era (Season 9 would tie with 13-16, though.)
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

This is a pretty good season actually. While there are some stinkers and the characters started becoming cartoons, the writers came up with some really funny jokes scattered throughout the season.

    Awesome
    none

    Great
    Lisa Gets an "A"
    Mayored to the Mob
    Treehouse of Horror IX
    The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace

    Good

Marge Simpson in: "Screaming Yellow Honkers"
    Mom and Pop Art
    D'oh-in in the Wind
    Wild Barts Can't Be Broken
The Old Man and the "C" Student
    Bart the Mother

    Decent
    I'm with Cupid
    Viva Ned Flanders
    Homer to the Max
    Simpsons Bible Stories
    Make Room for Lisa
    They Saved Lisa's Brain

    Poor

    Awful

A scene from an extremely overrated season as an analogy for another extremely overrated season.

Your point being? Yeah, it wasn't the best scene ever, but it's not like it's the most horrible shot of The Simpsons since Season 10!
