I think he was just guessing. Perhaps one of the scenes after his fight with Milhouse? I don't really recall, but I am pretty sure he was just guessing

To be fair, if you think you know the answer and don't put a question mark in - and you get it wrong, you look like an ass for saying it so bluntly and seemingly determined.

It's a question and answer game. Always when you ask a question, regardless of if you know the answer or not, you always say "is it ______?" "Yes you're right". If you don't believe me watch a game show or two.
