Rate/Review KOTH "Born Again on the Fourth of July"

Rate/Review "Born Again on the Fourth of July"

Bobby inadvertently starts a neighborhood war over Fourth of July celebrations, which brings Hank and the guys closer together.

I thought the episode was really funny and started off slow, but had a solid plot once it got rolling. I love how Bobby's story tied in with Hank's war against his neighbors to have the best 4th of July. Finally I thought the ending where they're all standing in the alley and a kid rides buy on his bike with sparklers attached to it and they both say they hate Applebee St.

    high 4/5 overall
Thanks for the awesome times King of the Hill!

A good and funny episode. My favorite part was when Booby was in the mall handing out pamplets, calling everyone sinners and fornicatures. He shouts fonicature as he points at people, and the screen pans over to a man giving another guy a massage. A good joke.

Hilarious! KotH has been firing on all cylinders for months. The storyline was interesting, well-written, and built up in a believable and compelling way, with a great use of the characters. I say it pretty much every week but I'm going to really miss this show.

    "Applebee sucks."
    "Agreed."

Family Guy and (to a somewhat lesser extent) Simpsons take note--this is how you write religion into an episode.

They really had a good idea going from start to finish, especially with the 4th of July competition (and part of me kept wondering why they didn't wait a little later to show this). But it could've been much funnier.

Is it me, or is the reason why Bobby is so lazy because his parents are too soft on him? My parents would have beaten me silly if I stole from my mom's purse to order a pizza when I should've gone to church.

Good Episode. I liked when Bobby wanted to hold Lucky's hand because he was scared of the preacher and in turn Lucky volunteers him against his will. Many funny parts, especially the preaching in the mall. And a well written storyline as well. They may be touching on subjects they've already done before but it still seems fresh.

I don't know about people in other cities and states but I did not see in the Fox promo's that advertise the Sunday night lineup that KOTH was going to be on this Sunday, or that it was at a new time. Instead of them killing off a show and making it seem like a hassel to let it finish they should treat the show better so more people will be interested in buying the dvds later on.

I thought it was terrible. One of the worst KOTH episodes to date. Insanely boring, no laughs, and a plot that was not believable, or interesting.

For religious KOTH ep's - Reborn to be Wild was 10X's the episode this was.

Anyone notice the weird facial expressions they do every single scene now? Before they cut to another scene they zoom on the persons face, they make a bland expression, sound effect, on to the next scene. Just a little pet peeve of mine.

You can tell the show is simply on auto-pilot with very very minimal effort going into it.
"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

I don't know about that, since several of the most recent episodes have been pretty good but I do agree that this one was fairly weak. Maybe I'm imagining things, but didn't they do an episode that touched on Bobby finding religion once before? It just had a familiar feel to it.

I agree, it was hard to get "Re-Born to Be Wild" out of my head during this episode, which was definitely worse. It showed Hank and the gang in an oddly antagonistic form too, which was a bit much to swallow. Bobby's point about the holiday being about America first and foremost seemed more plausible as something Hank would say. There was no real focus on Bobby's character either. He went from lazy and selfish to guilty, to impressionable extremely fast, then back to guilty. I didn't really buy into Bobby's brainwashing by Lucky's church. Made way more sense in "Re-Born" when it was presented to Bobby in a cool way for him. Also, didn't we see Lucky's church as a bar a couple seasons back? Where did this karate school one come from?

I didn't dislike this episode because it had some entertaining stuff going for it. I did like the gang visiting Redcorn for fireworks, as well as some of Bobby's preaching. But as mentioned, it didn't help that "Re-Born to Be Wild" had already been done, and really IMO stands as one of the best episodes of season 7+ of KOTH.

As a result, yeah, this episode will go down as very forgettable, even though it wasn't so bad. It's getting hard to accept that KOTH is ending, and I really want every episode to be a gem from here on in. Most of this season has been excellent.

    On wikipedia it says:
    Season 14: 2009

Fox ordered 13 more production episodes that will air during its 14th season, along with any holdovers from the previous production line (DABEXX) will make up the season. Airdates are unknown

Anyone know anything about this? I assume these won't air during the Fall 2009- season of TV, so do you think summer could be in the works?

Yes! I noticed that as well. It wasn't a huge goof..but enough to make me kinda grumble.. That was from the "Church Hopping" episode. Another excellent season 7+ episode.

They could have easily explained it by Lucky saying "I've been going here the last year since, (insert funny/entertaining scenario that made him walk into a Karate stuido here)".

It just makes me nervous that these are the same folks running The Goode Family. Just hoping Mike Judge keeps a close hold on that project.

Gotta say that I disagree with the complaints. I'm well aware that a lot of later KotH episodes can be dull, but I thought this was anything but. I always enjoy seeing the people on Rainy Street rally against a common foe, and for the most part, I enjoy these "war"-style episodes in any show. Bobby's character was stretched a little (he seemed to be a real jerk for the first part), but he's always been a pretty impressionable little guy, and he clearly felt bad about what he did. The ending with the snake was one of the funnier moments in recent KotH episodes, in my opinion.

I do agree with the comment that they end too many scenes with a characters reaction shot followed by transition music. It kind of slows down the pacing and sometimes feels a little lame.

I feel like the show has been doing this for ages, but I never actually noticed it. Thanks, now I'm going to notice it every single time! Haha

I enjoyed the transition from Bobby chopping the Uncle Sam to Peggy chopping a carrot.
